“Simply perfect for a Honeymoon!”
Reviewed 26 August 2010

We booked the Jan Brito for our Honeymoon, (our second visit to the beautiful city of Bruges.)
We had 3 fantastic days here. Relaxing and peaceful with alot of privacy. We often felt we were the only people around. Breakfast was plentiful and varied including hot English breakfast fare. Mini bar was well stocked which we made alot of use of! We had one of the garden suites, on two levels, sitting room downstairs and bedroom and bathroom upstairs. Excellent shower and a jacuzzi bath! Bed was huge and very comfortable. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The location couldnt be better and it is in a quiet street which made spending time in the garden even better.
We will return to Bruges and will definitely book the Jan Brito again. Extremely good all round and would not hesitate to recommend it. We found it excellent value for money as we took the special non refundable offer. No regrets or complaints at all.

We stayed two nights in the Baroness room. Everything functioned and all facilities in hotel were by all sense and purpose near to perfect. We didn't feel there were any other people there until breakfast next morning - where did all these people come from! It’s pretty quiet and unintrusive and you feel it’s all yours. The receptionist were young beautiful and very helpful and almost natural.
Our only quibble was with the room. Well , if darkly lit, antiqui, flowery wall paper, period style is your thing then you will like it. The huge mirror above the fire place was antique and it showed as there were so many age stains on it that you got an image of yourself perhaps you would have got say under soft lighting quite flatering but it was not really usable. The bathroom was bigger than our double room - a sort of old Victorian dress/bath room. Thought that was bit of a waste of space but then this is what happens when you try to make a period house into a modern set up. All in all it was a nice experience.

The Jan Brito was the best hotel we stayed in during our 6-week trip through Europe in June-July 2010. We stayed in the least expensive room category (Maid's Room), and found it to be more spacious than we expected. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was large and well-lit. Each of the ladies we encountered at the front desk was polite, helpful, and gave good information. Twice, they helped us look up and make reservations at local restaurants for dinner. They also gave us overnight access to the hotel's garage/storage space for bicycles that we rented in town. We were able to get online with the guest computer in the hotel lobby. We enjoyed the breakfast of eggs, bacon, yogurt, cereal, and fresh juice each morning. The secluded garden was a peaceful place to finish our morning coffee and write in our travel journal. The hotel's location was just a few streets from Market Square. Therefore, it was off the beaten path from the large tourist groups; yet just a few minutes' walk to exactly what you want in Bruges: picturesque canals, the bell tower, chocolate shops, and the windmill-lined main canal. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Jan Brito!

Spend a few minutes in the backyard enjoying the fountain. Location is perfect; staff are friendly and attentive; room is spacious -- a mixture of antique and modernity; prices are reasonable.

PRO: location CON: An average hotel in a medieval town. The hotel website praises its 'history' but actual restoration work could have been better. Boring decor/furnishing. No charm. Won't go back.

Not the cheapest hotel, especially as we paid for a premium room, but very comfortable, quiet and well appointed. Staff were always friendly and helpful.

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights, perfect location, everything easily walkable. I stayed in one of the cheapest rooms but was much bigger (and nicer) than the photos on the website.
The hotel is full of charm, lovely garden and the breakfasty was plentiful and fresh.
Due to being off main street was very quiet although there is so little traffic anywhere in Bruges that most places probably are.
Would definitely recommend staying here for a romantic weekend in a beautiful city.
