Wasn't too sure what to expect but there were no unpleasant surprises on De Barge.
On the minus side, I would think that travellers who either have mobility problems or a dislike of confined space might be better looking elsewhere. There are steps to negotiate when going aboard and the cabins are a bit small and the one we were in at the stern of the boat had some internal trip hazards where the deck was stepped (to accommodate steering gear?). Oh yes, if you are on the tall side, you might find yourself having to duck occasionally! Fortunately, neither of us is claustrophobic, or tall although we did stumble bit on the stepped area.
That much said the 'ship' was clean and well run by very helpful, obliging and friendly staff. Food was good (although dinner was a bit pricey although this seemed to be general in the city) and efficiently served in the close confines of the restaurant area. Breakfast (self service) offered a good choice in terms of quality and quantity.
The location is very pleasant and we did not suffer any of the disturbance from the car park reported by other TA reviewers. In addition to the pleasant waterside location, it is well situated for walking through the lovely park to the more familiar tourist haunts of Brugge.
An interesting experience!

We were pleasantly surprised when we saw the hotel, we did not know what to expect. It is actually a large converted barge. Moored on the side of the river. However all the rooms are amazing, equipped in the marine style. The double bed was very comfortable, and a nice touch were the two life jackets on the bed. The ensuite toilet and shower were top class too. Breakfast was all you could want, especially the facility for boiling your own eggs. We also used the on board restaurant in the evening, the whole meal was superb. Facilities included free WiFi and free parking right by the boat. It only took 10 minutes to reach the town, with a lovely walk through a park. Bikes are available to rent, and there is also a barbecue on the decking by the boat, with ample tables and chairs. Nice touch were umbrellas to loan if needed. The bar was open all evening if needed. We plan to return.

Room Tip: As far as we could see, all the rooms were very quiet at night.

Loved this hotel! Great nautical themed rooms and a lovely breakfast area.
We had a canal side room and the windows are at canal level ( you can see the ducks right at your window at breakfast witch made a nice little touch)!
We found the room comfy and clean.

Great location, great breakfast and great value. Can't wait to return!

Room Tip: If you have already booked and didn't realise you could choose a canal side room (as we did) jus...

Cons include: spiderwebs on the window, a rather noisy and almost useless toilet flush and - most of all - an awkwardly soft and worn out mattress which prevented us from enjoying a good sleep at night. Once I had informed the receptionist about it, he said he would fix it. I am still waiting for it ...
Pros include: nice and handy location (15 minutes to get to Brugge) and free parking.
All in all, not a place I will recommend

On arrival the girl behind the reception desk was word processing (looked to me like coursework) and didn't seem like she wanted to be disturbed. We had a coach park view, which was my fault because I didn't request A river view. The receptionist was quite sharp about this which I could have done without. Tv didn't work and the Internet details in the room guest book were incorrect. The room was small but cute. Nice touches. It was clean. The coach/campervan park was noisy at night. Breakfast was good. Lots of smoked Salmon and crepes. Served in a cute breakfast room with a lobster tank over looking the river. The restaurant is highly thought of but only open at the weekend so we missed it. Would have liked to try it though if breakfast was anything to go by.

Although not the fault of the hotel, the booking site did not make it clear the room did not face the canal, but faced a coach park instead. This was really disappointing as not seeing water/ canal/ passing boats kind of defeated the object of being on board. The only view of the canal was from the boat was in the dining room.

Worse still, there were groups around the parking area partying the whole night away, which resulted in very little sleep for two of the three nights we were there. Again, not the fault of the hotel.

The room was pleasant enough although a little dirty, service adequate and breakfast good. The stay on board should have been fun, but the disappointment didn't spoil our 10th anniversary.

Booked this one because it looked interesting, it did not disappoint.

Easy access on entry to Bruges with safe parking.

The rooms and public spaces are clean and comfortable, the staff helpful and friendly.

The best breakfast we have had in ages.

Super location, only a few minutes walk into the centre; the perfect starting place for exploring by bicycle.

Room Tip: ask for a canal frontage room, much cooler in summer.
