“In a country of canals, one must stay at The Barge Hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

Away from the crowds and (pedestrian) traffic of Bruges, we found the Barge Hotel, calmly moored on a canal. However, the Old Town is just a short stroll away, on a safe pedestrian path winding through lovely public gardens.
We chose to book The Captain’s Cabin; it was very comfortable, with good linens and bedding, writing desk, modern bathroom & luxurious amenities and a surprisingly powerful shower; large windows looked over the canal and its waterfowl.
All other cabins are priced depending on being port or starboard facing.
Free WiFi, free parking as well as an outdoor patio are all welcomed details that attract picky travellers like us.
The restaurant (open for dinner Fri/Sat/Sun only) offered a good variety and we chose the Entrecote; it was one of the most tender I had ever tasted and was cooked exactly to our liking. The Breakfast Buffet displays a large variety of both hot and cold dishes, including smoked salmon! We lingered longer...
For a romantic getaway or to get away from land just for a while, go to The Barge Hotel for an unforgettable stay.

Room Tip: The Captain's Cabin is the best. Others are priced depending on facing canal or land (patio side...

Just come back from brgge and De Barge Hotel was perfect

i dont normally write reviews but feel in love with this hotel.

parking out side is free and is only 5 mins walk from the Market square ( 1/2 hour if your naughty and vist every chocolate shop on route and a park jsut opposite for a gentle stroll.

The beds were comfortable, the showers where hot and the breakfast was tastie, werid to see ducks swim right pass you when sitting down to eat.

Big thumbs up by me and well worth stayng here

Room Tip: ask for a canal view and hopefully you see the water righ out of your bedroom window

Lovely old boat , close to the city , but very disappointing service . Upon arrival , the room was very cold , and the heating did not work . When I told the reception , they said they would try to fix it , and that , "hopefully" the problem would be solved by our return from the restaurant . It was solved , but no excuse was offered . Food at breakfast was good , but service is totally absent . I would suggest to remove the 5 persons who are standing in the restaurant without offering any help to the hosts . They seemed very busy listening to the Polish (!) radio news broadcasted in the restaurant , but were of no assistance at all . Cherry on the cake : when I asked a lady in the restaurant if I could use the toilets , she asked me if I was a customer !
The whole staff should be sent to a customer satisfaction training .

This hotel was perfect for our long weekend in Bruges. It's about 15 mins on foot to the main centre of Bruges but this means it's quiet and there's room to park a car. Our room looked out over the canal, tastefully decorated in nautical theme, and a reasonable size. Breakfast was really good with eggs/ bacon, fresh fruit and lovely bread. Didn't eat in the restaurant as it is only open on certain evenings. Would love to return in the summer!

Myself and my partner stayed for a short break over my birthday in early December.
We loved it. We are a young couple and love places with character that you will remember, this ticked all boxes.
10 min walk to the centre of Bruges maximum. Very quiet area and very friendly staff.
The resturant is certianly worth booking if you are planning a stay, the food was great.
We went at one of the coldest times of the year and were certainly never chilly.
If you get the option, get the Captains Room!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Captains room, certianly worth it!

Spent 1 night here in December. Good location within easy walking distance of the old town and with free parking. Easy access by road. The restaurant was excellent both for an evening meal and breakfast. Reception was extremely efficient and helpful. Rooms a little small, but to be expected, it is a barge after all. A great place to stay if you are looking for something a little bit different.

If you like boats, you'll love this. A converted cargo barge (not entirely certain about its history) with very pleasant cabins - comfy, cosy, compact, not enormous, but what more do you want? Some cabins have windows which open directly onto the canal for a wonderful morning view. (some cabins overlook the coach park). Easy walk from the Rail Station, even dragging luggage. Excellent breakfasts. Restaurant only open at the weekend evenings and absolutely NO vegetarian options, if that matters to you. Pleasant, helpful staff, lovely place to stay. Would love to stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a "Canal View" Cabin. Costs five euros a night more, but well worth it. Otherwis...
