“not too bad”
Reviewed 7 January 2014

not a bad place to stay in Bruges, when I was there it was undergoing renovations which could be a bit noisy at times, but once the renovations are done I think its going to be a great hostel that I'd go back to.

wifi was always strong, the breakfast was ok value for 4euros, and the staff were friendly enough. The best part about the Hostel is the common room, very easy to meet people and share stories in the cosy, comfortable, homely room.

This Hostel is under renovations which is not mentioned at all in the description which it should. Seriously, 120 euros per night on a private room without one hanger and one table and no wifi? The first thing we were told when you came to the reception was:"if you are looking for authenticity, why did you came to Brugge?"(quote) The new years eve party was beautifully set up in the lounge, only for the staff, so we ended up spending it in Snuffel Hostel, wich was great.

Room Tip: Room 18 does not have wifi.

Alright so we happened to have just the worst roommates ever, which is not to be unexpected from a New Years stay however, we booked MONTHS in advance for a four bed dorm and about 3 months later got an email saying the price was more expensive, that's ok. But then about 12 hours before arriving we got an email saying that they had done the math wrong and we were going to have to stay in an 8 bed dorm, fairly annoying but again, whatever won't be sleeping much anyway, actually was an eleven bed dorm, and one of us had to be up a stair case and behind a wall. Bit dodgy for two girls in a dorm of lads. Rooms mates where just the worst ever. Honestly. So I think that effected the stay a bit, would have been a bit less annoyed on arrival with just a casual apology from staff, however they were a bit distracted by their personal dinner party going on in the common room, so it seemed less likely they did their math wrong and more likely that their family were staying in the dorm we booked in April. Reception isn't 24 hours so second night we had to deal with some drunk crazy shaking the hostel down and screaming to get in for hours. Bathroom is super crapola, no sink for the toilet and the shower floods epically. Staff member we dealt with on the two occasions we had to speak to him (check in and key returning) seemed annoyed we were interrupting his personal life.
Would have been a fine place with the room we booked originally. But just generally unpleasant stay.

Sleeping rooms are in the midst of being overhauled. I slept in a new room and it was quite lovely, though still needed finishing touches such as towel/coat hooks and curtains. The hostel will close for the month of January to redo the common area, reception and kitchen, and I wouldn't doubt that the prices might go up. Short walk (10 minutes) to the train station and one block behind the start of the shopping street for conveniences, though of course you want to spend more time off the commercial path. By the front door they post the times and meeting points of the walking tours (free), beer tastings (10 euro) and pub crawls (10 euro) - met some great people on each of those, try them.

This hostel is ok, it was the most affordable we could find, and does the job. The rooms look smart but there are a few things unfinished in places which is a shame. The worst aspect of the rooms is lack of storage, we had 4 people's luggage out on the floor which was awkward at times.
PROS- warm, convenient location, affordable, quiet
CONS- no storage, water slow to get hot, no curtains

Apparently, this hostel has been under renovation for some time. While they aren't quite finished, let me say, the new parts are amazing. some of the nicest facilities I've had during my few months of travel. they appear to be close to finishing up, and i'm sure everything will end up as nice as the rooms. and everyone was so nice. if I come back to brugge, i will definitely be staying here again!

oh, and they hooked us up with free tours and a beer tasting. while through another company, both events happened right in our own hostel. great!

I stayed in a 4-person dorm at Lybeer in October. The room was sparse, with a sink and 4-person bunk bed and nothing else - all belongings go on the floor or on your bed. The workers wins the award for Worst Staff Ever...one night we were hanging out in the lounge/bar (coolest part about this hostel) and a solo girl came in late at night. The night employee was sitting on the couch playing with his iPad and didn't bat an eyelash, even when he heard her ask where she should check in. We told her that she needed to talk to him and when she approached him, he grumbled something about having just sat down and waited for several MINUTES, while she stood there awkwardly and watched him.

The location is great, but then Bruges is pretty small so most locations are great. The showers were temperamental and the bathrooms could have been, but it's a hostel. It was pretty quiet at night due to the 11 pm lounge closing time and I felt safe, but overall I think I could have found a better hostel.
