“great budget option for stay in Bruges”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 June 2014

Good experience here, would definitely stay at Lybeer again. The 8 bed dorm was well decorated (new beds, recently painted) but was pretty cramped. The shared bathroom was nice and modern. The location was great - close to the train station and to the city centre. We particularly liked the various events the hostel promoted - free walking tours, pub crawls, beer tasting, etc.

Room Tip: 8 bed dorm was very cramped - should have been a 6 bed

A smart, modern, well decorated hostel with good sized rooms. You also have the option of staying in a single room if you choose. The bar has a warm bohemian feel and the drinks are probably the cheapest in Bruges. The location is particularly good, close to the main attractions and only a 10 minute stroll to the station.

Had to stay in Bruges for a couple of nights whilst my bicycle was repaired. Found the staff to be very helpful, flexible and accommodating. Rooms left nothing to be desired and plenty of nice people to talk to.

Good hostel in a good location, and good events hosted within the hostel, not much help getting around Bruges.

The hostel was going through a renevation which might have made its a bit hectic with showers, room space, cleanliness etc.

It was a last minute booking so I was grateful for the booking under short notice. Seen much better hostels around Bruges which I would have paid the same amount for and had a better time and met more backpackers!

Upon doing a charity bike ride from Calais to Amsterdam we thought we'd stop off in the beautiful city of Bruges and chose this hostel because of it's location, private room and the fact it was advertised as newly decorated and furnished.

I have traveled the world and always used hostels due to their friendly atmosphere and I can honestly say that this hostel had the most unfriendly staff I have yet to encounter.

Upon arrival we were met by a number sitting outside smoking. No harm in itself, however they never identified themselves until we were shouted at to open the door carefully otherwise we would be paying for damages!

Bearing in mind there was no hello, we were tired from our cycle and we weren't near a door this had taken us by surprise. They appeared extremely cocky and unwelcoming.

Next they demanded a deposit for the key and said in an unfriendly tone that we would not be getting it back if we lost it.

The newly furnished private room that we booked had a horrible smell that can only be described as damp mixed with something that had died.

There are passive aggressive signs everywhere warning you that calling any staff after hours will land you in trouble ( again adding to this whole unfriendly atmosphere)

Be warned the stairs are very steep if you have a large bag or any trouble walking. In addition the common room was very dirty as was the kitchen. In conclusion good luck if you want to stay here and only do so as a last resort Oh and not even a bie as we left :(

All the staff were friendly and helpful. It was great to stay in freshly renovated rooms. It was a wonderful location within easy walking distance from the train station as well as all the tourist attractions. Although the staircase is lovely to look at, it seemed quite rickety and had the handrail taped up in some sections, so you wouldn't want to be clumsy when walking up/down stairs.

Room Tip: We chose beds by the window, but found the bright spotlight which shines on the Belfort shining into...
