“Great atmosphere ”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Clean and recently refurbished rooms and bathrooms. Great location close to the station. Staff is friendly and helpful, always have a recommendation for a night out and eating. They have a bar with great beer and a self-catering kitchen. I will go back on Bruges

Great location - right in the city centre. Newly renovated rooms. No lifts but this didn't present a problem to me.

Great staff - helpful with what to do, where to eat, etc. Join the free walking tour (donations appreciated) organised by the hostel.

Highlight of my entire trip was playing street football with some local kids right outside.

This hostel was decent, the location is pretty good as its close to the city centre. Staff are somewhat friendly and helpful but i have treated with way better people attending at hostels, rooms are small but didnt have any other bigger problem.

I would definitely recommend the Lybeer. We arrived late and night tired and weary from a day exploring Brussels and were checked in in no time. The room was clean and there was plenty of room for us four girls.

Breakfast had plenty of juice and some cheese, ham and hard-boiled eggs which gave a bit of a boost to the continental option and the social area is cosy with free wifi and plenty of character.

We took advantage of the free 'In Bruges' walking tour which was fantastic. Our tour guide was Rachel who was friendly and gave a detailed insight into the city as well as some great personal tips on places to go. It's a fantastic way to explore Bruges and get your bearings.

The one big downside with Lybeer was that the rooms have been modernised but the corridors and stairs were still awaiting renovation. The main staircase is very steep and rickety with loose bannisters ... not good if you've had a couple of drinks!!

Great location and would definitely stay at Lybeer again!

This was a place that our friends picked out. He had stayed there several years earlier. It was easy to find once we figured out the map of the city. Just a few minutes from the parking garage. Once checked in we climbed very narrow stairs down a couple narrow hall ways to our rooms. The "double" room was small, but very clean and well kept. It had been recently upgraded. The bed was queen size I think and enough room for my wife and I. The bathroom was very clean and nice with a shower, marble sink, and commode. Since we were only here for one night - more than ample accommodations. When we checked in there were no towels and we were told that when we came back in the evening, there would be some. Well, after our tour for the evening and dinner - we found no towels at all. Luckily our friends had two and gave us one of theirs. We had the window open a little that evening as it was a little warm (no air conditioning). Watch out for the mosquitos! The walls were pretty thin and heard a lot of noises during the night. It's amazing sometimes how rude people can be with banging of doors, yelling, and sounding like elephants during the night. After I put in ear plugs - didn't hear anything and had a good sleep. If you don't like close quarters and steep narrow stairs (no elevator) this place is not for you. But if you want a clean economical place you should check it out.

Room Tip: A double room comes with it's own bathroom!

On paper this hostel looks good! Also it attracts a good crowd of people and the communal area is really sociable. The location is perfect walking distance from the station and the city centre!

We did however have problems during our stay. Our room had not been renovated and the bunk bed railing was broken. Not very safe but luckily no one fell out of it at night! Rooms are not well sound proofed so at night you can hear everyone in the floors above you and outside. The shower flooded the entire bathroom which was a nuisance and slightly dangerous. We were not so happy with the service because twice we had repair men come into the rooms without notice to put up curtains and fix the lock. Once the curtains were put up we could not open the only window in the room. They also only grudgingly gave us more toilet paper when it ran out - we did not realise it had to be rationed! And I am going to be very petty now but the tea ran out on day 2 and was not replaced for the rest of the week despite a request being made. Small point but it was one of the reasons we picked the place because as stereotypical English ladies we love our tea lol!

Imagine that I never stay in hostel before, instead at least 3 star hotels were my preference. However, after my first solo trip, this hotel enchanted me in many ways e.g activities it provided i.e. free walking tour and so on. The room is clean and sheets are free and no hidden charge. WIFI was superb. the reception was so nice to me as well. I am lucky to stay here. The facilities was excellent.

Room Tip: ask for the top floor if you need quite room due to downstair bar.
