“Lovely stay”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Lovely hotel the room was small but had everything we needed including air con. The breakfast buffet was really good, set in a pretty room next to a courtyard garden lots of choice. The only criticism is that the breakfast plates for hot items should be warmed...... Cold plates= cold breakfast.
Great central ovation quite a lively bar opposite didn't keep us awake though.
Would stay again.

We had an excellent stay at this hotel, it is clean, well appointed and extremely central. Less than 5 minutes walk to the square. The rooms were reasonably sized, well furnished and in an annexe (we were a party of six in three rooms). Breakfast was good, generous and varied, buffet style with hot food available. There are plenty of choices for eating in the vicinity of the hotel. Other reviewers have noted there is a hostel to the immediate front of the hotel and this can be noisy at night - our rooms were to the rear and we had no problems with this at all. Overall a very pleasant stay in a lovely hotel Iona beautiful city!

First of all Brugge is a very beautiful city with lots to see and do and well worth a visit. The people that we met, outside the hotel, were friendly and very welcoming and enthusiastic to share their city with visitors and all spoke excellent English.

This hotel is centrally located, close to the train station and the public rooms are lovely. The reception staff that we met were polite but not very friendly or welcoming. When we checked in we were advised that the wifi probably would not work though they do advertise free wifi. The receptionist advised us that we could walk down the street to their sister hotel, sit in that lobby and connect to wifi! This is the free wif that they advertise?!?!? I stayed in room 302 and I would advise anyone booking this hotel to specifically say that you do NOT want to stay in this room. While the room was very clean and adequately appointed, it has very prominent, sloping eaves with large wooden beams ... very charming and quaint but had my husband been with me (he is over 6 ft. tall), there would have been a lot of head clunking I am sure. The tub is located under the eaves and it is impossible to stand up in the shower. You have to more or less crawl into the tub and either sit or kneel and try to use the hand-held shower ... definitely NOT what one expects in a hotel in this day and age and quite frankly it is dangerous. Our family travels significantly and this" shower" was a first for me, fortunately. I did request to be moved to another room and was told that the hotel was full and this was not possible ... no apologies! We did ask for the Manager but were just given a card. Also the bathtub did not drain properly and though they did say that an engineer would look at it, it never did drain properly during my stay. My advice would be to specifically request not to be placed in Room 302. I'm not sure if other rooms in this hotel are similar but it would be worth asking about at the time of booking.

The breakfast room was attractive and offered a variety of food which was excellent and the staff in the breakfast room were much friendlier than the front of house staff. There is a cute little bar but that is staffed by the front desk receptionist who runs from the desk to behind the bar! Is a barman that expensive?

Also the hotel is across the street from a Hostel and is very noisy at night. Brugge has a lot of hotels and I would definitely not stay here again though hope to visit Brugge again.

Room Tip: Do NOT stay in Room 302. Ask for a quiet room, not in the front of hotel. Request a room that is n...

The hotel is centrally located, about a €10 taxi ride from the train station and superbly appointed. The rooms are wonderful, clean and comfortable. The gym, sauna and steam rooms are complimentary and located in the converted cellar of this 19th Century building. The staff are really helpful recommending places to eat (no dinner served at hotel) and things to do/see. The bar could be busier, not helped by being duly run by the reception staff. The breakfast that was free with the room was served from 07.30-10.30 and was absolutely excellent, no lunch required! Travel plugs, irons/ironing boards, robes for spa and safe are also complimentary. Our only advice if you book is to ask for a room that doesn't overlook the main road/pub & hostel opposite, especially when Bruges are playing football. OK if you're not a light sleeper or enjoy staying up partying until 5am!
Would definately recommend and stay again. Perfect for romantic couples more so than young families.

What a pleasant experience in this charming hotel! The rooms were clean and pleasant. The breakfast included a good variety of food, and the staff was quick, pleasant, and helpful. The best part of the stay was the location. It was a short walk to the Belfort Tower, the Burg Square, the Market Square, and much more. We were also close to a pleasant canal ride and enjoyed the cobble stone streets.

Arriving at the hotel we had good first impressions, the location is very central, the lobby and bar area is beautiful. However, when we were shown our rooms on the 3rd floor one of the rooms (room 302) did not have a shower!! The ceilings were so slanted over the bathtub that there was no way you could stand up (it was about 2ft high), you have to stoop down, climb in and sit in the bathtub (which is slippery and dangerous) and try and use the hand held nozzle and the bathtub did not drain properly. It was ridiculous. Worst of all, when we booked the rooms there was no warning or notification that the room was like this- in this day and age when you pay alot of money for a hotel it is expected that it comes with a functioning shower, this is a basic requirement of a hotel. When we raised this with the staff they could not move us because the hotel was full, and they were very unhelpful and did not offer any apologies.

When we arrived we were also told the wifi didnt work, after they explicitly advertise free wifi. it was clear this had not been working for some time as the staff admitted it doesnt work on guest devices and phones and that should we want to use the internet we would need to walk to their sister hotel and sit in the lobby. this is not a solution for people who are travelling from far away and expect to be able to use the internet in a hotel.

I think having a shower and internet are really basic things that should be expected in a hotel of this kind, and had we known we would not get these simple requirements we would have definetly stayed somewhere else.

Room Tip: do NOT choose room 302 or any rooms on the third floor with slanted ceilings and ensure you ask that...

Excellent location, nicely appointed room, decent breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff! I would strongly recommend this hotel. We were booked here by one of their associated hotels when they made an error and overbooked the hotel. We were very happy as this was most likely an upgrade!
