We spent three nights here over New Year, in a deluxe room, thanks to a mess-up over our original booking elsewhere which meant Expedia/hotels.com organised this for us instead – we weren’t complaining! It’s a grand old building and the room was spacious and comfortable with two bathrooms – one with sink and shower over bath, the other with the loo and a shower cabinet. The bed was enormous and the chairs very comfortable and there were even tea and coffee making facilities. The buffet breakfast was fabulous – scrambled egg, bacon, ham and cheese, pastries, yogurts, good coffee – the only thing lacking was fresh fruit – tinned fruit cocktail isn’t quite the same! The bar area was comfortable too, although smoking is allowed. The staff were really pleasant and helpful and the location is great – very central. Bruges was a delight with Christmas decorations everywhere, the canals all frozen and the bars serving warm wine…

We stayed for a week at the Oud Huis over Christmas 2008. We upgraded to a superior room, & were lucky to be at the back of the hotel. Very big, quiet room, which we could not fault at all.

Only 2 problems with the hotel; no restaurant, & they still allow smoking in the bar area. Fine if you're a smoker, but the bar was directly under our room & did seep through one night, &. was quite unpleasant.

Staff varied from snotty little sod on reception, who seemed to look down his nose on everyone, to the most pleasant receptionist, breakfast staff & maids you could wish to meet.

Breakfast was brilliant every day, fresh fruit, cold meat, hot meat, cheeses, yoghurt & so on, probably the best breakfasts we have ever been offered in any hotel.

Ideally located, 1 minute walk from The Burg & Fish Market, 2 minutes max to Main Square. Nice little Italian restaurant/takeaway just over the road. ("Borrow" some knives & forks from breakfast for a takeaway!)

Beware!! Like any city, be prepared to ripped off if you eat on the Squares. The "Tom somethingorother" Restaurant, on the Burg 7.5 Euros for an orange juice, disgraceful.

Hotel was overall very good & can recommend to anyone prepared to pay a high price for a bit of luxury. 200 Euros/night.

Have been to Bruges before a couple of years ago, but decided to take my mother in law for a 2 night break, as city is compact and easy to get around. Hotel was lovely, better than expected and in a very good location. Breakfast was very good, lots to choose from.
Bedrooms, though not that big, had eveything you needed even coffee making facilities and in good decorative order.
Both rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Loved the glass door.
We asked ahead if we were able to have 2 rooms together - which on arrival we did. Staff friendly. Had a lovely stay, shame about weather.
Would recommend and use this hotel again if returned to bruges

We decided to visit the Brussels Christmas market this year but wanted to stay in Bruge as we had never been there. Whereas the Brussels market was disappointing, Bruges and the Oud Huis de Peellaert were not. We were travelling with our daughters (16 and 12) and the hotel staff allocated us adjoining double rooms with perfectly comfortable beds at the back of the hotel, so we were not aware of traffic noise. That said though, the hotel is not soundproofed and I was woken each morning at 7.45 by another guest using their shower. I didn't mind this, however, as we were there to explore Bruges and wanted to get downstairs for breakfast - I can sleep-in back home! By the way, my husband was not aware of the early riser.

The hot and cold buffet breakfast taken in the bright and attractive breakfast room was satisfying (I would say standard hotel fare) and the staff welcoming and friendly, as were the reception staff who were also very helpful with recommending and booking restaurants on our behalf. On the first night we wandered down to De Pepermolen (3 mins from hotel) and on the second night we walked 4 mins into town to Au Petit Grande. Bruge is not very big but the hotel is perfectly situated close to the Burg and Markt.

Although we spent very little time at the hotel itself, our experience was a positive one. We generally found the locals very friendly (even the maid smiled and bid us a cheery good morning) - how often does that happen? The public areas of the hotel are very nice, and even though the bedrooms are not lavishly furnished, they are nevertheless nicely fitted out and with lots of storage space as well as equipped with a good clean bathroom.

The Oud Huis is a lovely hotel - very impressive entrance, and a wall of hot, pine-scented air hits you as you walk through the glass doors - just what you need when it's freezing outside ! The desk staff are very helpful but we were put "out the back" too and there were no porters to assist us lugging our bags up the narrow stairs, which was disappointing.

The rooms are spacious and very clean but we stayed for 3 nights and at 7am every day, it sounded like an aircraft was running it's engine next to our room - not very conducive to a nice lie in ! I think it was the fans from the kitchen, so if you go there and are given room 112, I suggest you ask to be moved !

We found we could hear our neighbours too, but it did not cause us a problem. The only real issue we had with being in the new rooms was that we could not use the sauna - the prospect of having to traverse the freezing car park to our room when you've just been in a very hot place was not something we were prepared to do.

Location-wise, you couldn't ask for a better place really. It is a stone's throw from the Burg and then the Markt and about 15 minutes from the museums. You can walk from the station to the hotel but it's a good 25 mins walk through cobbled streets and if you stick to the main ones, you will be doing battle with shoppers too!

Personally we found the excess of chocolate shops really off-putting - too many to choose from, so we chose none ! The food was amazing though - never had a bad meal but it is expensive - we never had a 2 course meal for less than 60 euros. Loved the bars too, with their detailed menus of the 450 beers. The fruit ones are gorgeous !

So all in all, our stay in Bruges was lovely. The hotel is very nice and you cannot fault it for location. So go and enjoy yourself !

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in early November, 2008. We were supposed to stay 2 nights, but due to food posioning from London, we had to arrive 1 day late. Even though we were only there about 24 hours, we really enjoyed our stay! This is a really nice hotel, the rooms were quite large (after being in Paris) and the breakfast had a nice variety of choices. I know a previous person wasn't happy with their stay, but I highly recommend it. Plus, we booked on Expedia so it wasn't too expensive.
We arrived via the train station and took a cab to the hotel. I had read previously that you could walk there, but I don't recommend it. Plus the cab drivers were both very nice (arriving and departing), and were happy to tell us all about Bruges. Bruges is amazing, lots of shops and really good food! I have read that the restaurants are expensive, but we ate dinner at Poules and Moules and I didn't think it cost too much. I definitely recommend that you try the waffles, fries, and mussels while in Bruges! Plus, buy lots of chocolate to take with you when you leave. I have never seen so many chocolate stores in one place! I hope you have fun!

It is a very nice place right in the center of Bruges. First times as we left the hotel for a walk we were hurrying as usual to rich the center but after ten steps we already in Burg (the very central point) and it was a pleasant surprise. Inside the hotel there were nice 19century interiors. They have a very comfortable smoking room with armchairs and a fireplace – my husband worked there and felt himself like home. Our room had everything expected for a comfort and things were placed cleverly. The room was rather large, but not in comparison with marvelous huge bath room with a whole wall mirror and wide bathtub. Managers were ready to help all day long and even offered us an umbrella one rainy day. We really liked our oud huis (old house)!
