This hotel was pleasant. The room was very nice. There was no air conditioning or coffee but if you asked for a fan they gave you one and if you asked for coffee they gave you a tray with a kettle, etc.
The owners of the hotel were very nice and they recommended some places to eat to us.
The breakfast was continental and it was brilliant. You got tea or coffee if you wanted it and you could also get a boiled egg. The breakfast also included pastries, toast, cereal and fruit.
Altogether I really loved this hotel!

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms are the best because the stairs are not straight and are not very wide so it...

Smallish family run hotel very close to main square Markt (< 5 minutes walk). Offers B&B only so build that in.Very very clean. Lovely garden and conservatory.

Breakfast was very well presented and although continentinal, offered a wide range of options. You won't leave hungry.. Take the boiled egg. The chicken gets up early to lay it so it is fresh.

One down point was the steep stairs. If you have mobility issues ask for ground floor.

Owners were extremely helpful, friendly and to my shame fluent in many languages including English.

If in Brugge I would definately enquire if there was room at the Anselmus

Room Tip: Ask for a fan as there is no AIr Conditioning

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in July and stayed in one of the ground floor rooms. The room was a reasonable size and extremly clean. On arrival we received a very warm and friendly greeting from the owner who was pleased to answer our questions regarding Bruges. We chose to sit in the conservatory for breakfast which was well stocked and had a varied choice. Again the service was extremly friendly. Throughout our stay the owner and my husband shared many a joke at my expense!! That's another story. The hotel is in a great location just a short walk to the market square and shops. We decided to take the bus tour around Bruges which was very interesting - we also went on one of the boat tours which mostly gave the same information as the bus tour. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it. It is a more traditional hotel but that is what we liked about it.

I booked this Hotel as a deal with Eurostar for my Husband's birthday and we were not disappointed. It is a three star establishment and that is what you get, but the personal, friendly service from the owners makes it a lovely place to stay. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we contacted the Hotel prior to our stay and requested a ground floor room and, as others have suggested, i would highly recommend that anyone with any sort of mobility problem do the same. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and a good size. If i had to find fault, i would say the pillows were not the most comfortable being filled with pieces of foam but maybe that's how things are in Belgium. Breakfast was good, constantly being topped up with fresh pastries and croissants and it was a delight to enjoy this meal in the conservatory/orangerie with the sun pouring through the glass roof. The location is superb, just a short stroll to the two main squares, shops etc. Just around the corner from the Hotel is a youth hostel which does generate some noise at night but we didn't really find this a problem. Directly opposite the hostel is a big four star hotel and i would imagine guests there experience terrific amounts of disturbance. We enjoyed all the usual sights in Bruges but were disappointed with our trip on a horse and cart and felt that 39euro is a pretty steep price to pay. Maybe we just struck it unlucky as our driver spent half the time on his mobile phone instead of pointing out the interesting sights and we ended up back at the starting point a good 10 minutes before others that had set off at the same time as us. Having said all that, we wouldn't hesitate to return and would stay again at the Anselmus Hotel.

Room Tip: Contact the Hotel in advance if you want a ground floor room.

My husband treated me to a trip to Bruges for my birthday in July and booked our stay at the Anselmus Hotel after reading the many glowing reviews on Tripadvisor. Whilst this hotel is very clean and the breakfast adequate the staff friendly it is like taking a trip back in time. Some people (Americans??) would most likely enjoy the antiquated furniture the dark stairwell with a push button light switch I must confess it was not my cup of tea, speaking of which take your own tea bags even putting two in one cup it was still like gnats pee! A three star rating for what is a B&B seems very high considering just around the corner are two very nice four star Hotels which would have been much more my thing. They at least had lifts to their upper floor unlike the Anselmus, be warned it is an almost vertical climb on very narrow steps if you're on the top floor (which of course we were) to be fair they would have changed our room had we made a special request so if you are dodgey on your pins make sure you ask before you get there as it's first come etc. The location of the B&B is very good a short walk take you to the main square. The facilities are OK although the bath towels could be bigger! Our pillows were filled with loose foam and quite lumpy and I imagine sweaty in the warmer weather, there is no aircon just a small window with a small opening which as we were at the front of the B&B extremely noisey until quite late. As I say overall a pleasant enough place if you like old fashioned B&B style.

Room Tip: Book a lower floor if you have difficulty with stairs. Ask for room at the back also if you want qui...

We spent 3 nights in a standard double room. We found it very clean but it was on the small side. Location was perfect, easy to walk to and from the train station and then after unpacking we were able to explore the Markt and the Burg.
The breakfast options were good and varied and kept well stocked throughout the morning. A good start to a day of sightseeing!
We would strongly recommend this family run hotel, great value for money, perfect location and very clean throughout.

We stayed in a superior room for a few days in the middle of July 2012. This hotel is perfectly located to explore Bruges, only a short 2-3 minute walk to the main square. It's also close to the Brussels Midi/Zuid train station, you could walk but a 10 minute taxi ride for €8-12 is probably best, and we found the taxi drivers are a great source of local knowledge!
The family running the hotel were always ready to help and were with us immediately when we asked them to show us something in the room. An information pack left in the room was very useful and far better than most large chain hotels could manage. Most impressive though was the cleanliness, the whole hotel and particularly the rooms were spotless!!
Very pleasant stay. Definitely recommend.
