Stayed here for one night, travelling by Eurostar, while visiting the Christmas markets. Beautiful, clean hotel, ideal position for centre of Bruges, quiet location with a 5 minute walk from centre. Although we arrived before the check in time, one of our rooms was ready, which we could immediately occupy. A tea tray was very quickly brought to us by the lovely, curteous owner. The rooms were superb, the breakfast was delicious & overall could not fault anything. We were given a discount voucher for the ice sculptures which is located by the railway station, well worth a visit. Wrap up warm!
We were a bit disappointed with the Christmas market, not that many stalls, most of them were selling woolly hats etc. The markets in Brussels on the way home were slightly better. Thumbs up for the Anselmus Hotel.

This is a charming little hotel in an excellent central location. Just a couple of minutes' walk to restaurants, cafes, shops and tourist attractions - can't get any better! The location felt very safe when walking back to the hotel late at night. The hotel is quiet and peaceful despite the central location. The owners were warm and friendly, taking time to make conversation with you, give helpful advice on any questions you may have, marking on a map places to eat and sharing their sense of humour with you! The triple room we had was spacious, clean and tidy with good wifi connection and a safe. Limitless tea and coffee - all you had to do was ask and the owners were very helpful. The stairs are a bit steep, just watch your step more carefully. We really loved the breakfast - great variety, as many eggs as you want done just the way you like it, fresh fruit and cold meats, lovely pastries and spreads. Everything was fresh, tasty and plentiful! On arrival, we took a very short and easy bus ride from Bruges station to the market square and then a few minutes' walk to the hotel. On departure, we decided to walk from the hotel to the station as it really was not that far and we were light travellers with not much luggage. We were really glad that we did the 20-25mins walk as it was lovely weather and the route proved to be a very idyllic and scenic one, a surprisingly enjoyable walk to the station! The signs were a bit confusing though so don't hesitate to ask the friendly locals! All in all a great place to stay and at a great price as part of a Eurostar package.

There was only one negative thing - the hotel recommended a local Belgian restaurant called "De Vlaamsche Pot" and gave us promotional drinks vouchers to use there. So we went there on our first evening and had the worst dining experience ever! The management there were incredibly rude and verbally abusive over very minor stuff such as our trying to use the vouchers for free water instead of champagne as we didn't drink alcohol! We were overcharged for our meal and bullied into paying it anyway and had to wait over an hour between courses as we watched locals arriving later than us being served all their meals and leaving! We 3 girls left the restaurant practically in tears from their aggressive manner and it ruined our night. I really hope the hotel owners read this review and stop recommending this tourist trap of a place as there are much better restaurants in Bruges. Although I don't blame the hotel owners as they were not to know this would happen, this is the only reason I have given 4 stars instead of 5, a dreadful dining experience as a result of their innocent recommendation. I would stay here again but research properly on where to dine out!

Room Tip: Rooms not directly above the hotel's front entrance are a bit quieter.

We stayed here 4 nights on a Eurostar package for our 40th wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is quite old, and the public areas are full of character and interesting furnishings. The bedroom was excellent: spacious, warm, comfortable and well furnished with very good beds and a spacious up to date bathroom. Very good breakfast in a lovely breakfast room. Excellent location - quiet, but very close to the centre, and all parts of historic Bruges within easy walking distance. I stongly recommend this hotel.

I booked this hotel via Eurostar package and was not disapointed:

Positives:

Warm welcome from staff and free wifi
Room spacious and warm and comfy.
great location to central markets
Breakfast - was awesome - contintental - fruits, boiled egg, toast, yogurts, meats chesse, etc...

No cons. Would stay again.

Just to add to all the reviews - clean, comfortable, very quiet. Thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We asked for a tea tray to come up and it was there within minutes. On the way to the Grote Markt there is a Carrefour Expres if you need a mini-supermarket (perhaps for more teabags etc). Our room (room 8) was large, warm, twin-bedded, with a large bathroom. The room has a free safe, the bathroom has a good hair-drier and the best toiletries I've come across. The owners are charming. Wifi worked beautifully. As someone else has mentioned, if you go Eurostar, it's great value (must get "Any Belgian Station" to get you from St Pancras to Bruges via Brussels Midi/Zuid or you will pay for the Bx-Bruges leg.) Breakfast rolls and pastries are freshly baked on the hotel premises. There is no lift and the stair treads are narrow, just take it easy going up and down. Cost of taxi from Bruges station to the hotel was Euro 8.8 plus tip, and it was worth paying this on a cold, grey, wet, Belgian December evening. Can't wait to go back!

The Anselmus Hotel proved an absolute gem, manageing to be both centrally located and very quiet. Being close to the Market Square with it's Christmas Market and plentiful restaurants, it was perfectly sited. We were given a warm welcome on arrival, with recommendations about the best places to eat and visit. The Hotel was absolutely spotless, the bedrooms extremely comfortable and the requested tea tray was immediately provided. Breakfast was perfect, the owners on hand to provide fresh tea and coffee and eggs were boiled to order. We booked the entire weekend through Eurostar, the transfer from the Eurostar to the regional train at Brussels was very simple with several trains every hour, making for a stress free journey. This was a very enjoyable visit, one we shall be repeating and recommending.

Room Tip: We had rooms 5 and 6, they were on the first floor, looking over the front of the hotel onto the str...

This hotel was just a short walk from the Market square and the Burg, - we really appreciated the central location. It was immaculately clean throughout. The room was warm and the beds were comfortable. The staff were cheerful and helpful. Booking a combined ticket (train and hotel) with Eurostar made it a very fair price. What more could you want?

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms available for those with mobility problems.
