How disappointing. My holiday was cancelled because I contracted swine flu. To avoid spreading this disease I cancelled my stay at the hotel. Veronique however thought it was appropriate to make a profit out of my bad fortune and charged me not just one but both FULL nights. So even though I did not use any of their facilities or eat their food I had to pay in full.
This is not what I would consider good customer service. Needless to say, I won’t be making another reservation here. Every other hotel would have charged just one night or charged a penalty – but not the full price for the whole stay.

Good news.

Alegria is all about happines, harmony and joy, something we want to pass to our customers when they stay at Alegria. This is the reason we choose to react to this review.

History:
----------
The lady mailed us, on august 2nd at 22:15 ( 2 DAYS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL) to cancel her reservation (from 4th to 6th of august) due to swine flu.

We refered to our cancellation policy on our website which clearly states, that when one cancels within 10 days of the booked date, the full price of the stay will be charged. The cancellation policy is also clearly mentioned in the confirmation email we sent out on june 18th, with the additional advice to get travel insurance. A lot of people do indeed get travel insurance to cover cases such as these and others (accidents, sickness, car problems, ticket problems, lost luggage...)

The fact that the customers contracted swine flu, is no different from, for instance, someone breaking a leg and having to cancel their trip, when it comes to the cancellation policy. The reason for our policy is that we are a small family run hotel with 6 rooms and it is very difficult for us to re-rent a room with only two days notice, and the losses are too high for our small family run hotel. Even though this is the case, we mentioned in our email to this customer that we would try to re-rent the room, and if successful she would be contacted. We were indeed able to re-rent the room for one day. We have therefore contacted our bank to refund her for that one night.

Unfortunately the review was posted here on the 8th of august, not even giving us the time to get in touch with her. We have tried our very best to provide good Alegria customer service, and regret the incident. Staying up till late at night trying to re-rent a room is what Alegria is all about ;-) :-) :)

We tried to book the Alegria, however, due to the only conceivable flight arriving quite late, asked whether it would be OK to arrive just after midnight. We received a straight 'no', and were given the excuse of 'not disturbing other guests'.

I presume the door's locked after midnight, and that you sleep on the doorstep if you go for a late meal out? If not, this is just an excuse because the proprietor doesn't want to be inconvenienced.

When we expressed our disappointment, we received an objectionable e-mail, which frankly, made it feel like we'd had a lucky escape.

For all those who have reservations about the attitude of the owners, I can only wholeheartedly agree.

Veronique was so nice to accomodate us upon our late arrival. My partner's flight was delayed so we called ahead to let her know. She was very helpful. When we arrived she was very helpful providing us with details on Brugge and a map. She even recommended a nice place to eat so late. The fresh smell of flowers filled the entry way as we checked in. What a pleasant welcoming. Veronique even offered to help carry our luggage upstairs. That was above and beyond anything I expected. The room was very relaxing and comforting. The morning breakfast was served with a smile and fresh juice. Veronique paid special attention to each guest talking to them during breakfast. She had a smile and provided nice background music to add to the warm atmosphere. Her mother was equally pleasant, always smiling. The garden was an added delight to the experience. A nice place to sit and just relax. What a warm place and atmosphere. I thank Veronique and her mother for a pleasant experience. In this day and age you will need your passport to sign in because of security. I felt very secure here and I appreciate the level of security. You can never be too careful when you open your home to strangers. I also appreciate that everyone feels like a special member of their family when you stay there, everyone is welcome. Thanks we will definitely be back.

This place is a gem!!!! It sits a block off the Markt, near the Belfry and a huge array of restaurants, near the Beikendorf parking garage.

We were there for 4 days and will be back.

The innkeepers are wonderful, mother and daughter, equally charming and helpful. Breakfast was in or off the garden, wonderful croissants, eggs, meats cheeses, breads, and a chocolate cereal to die for. They gave great tips and ideas for stuff to do and see.

The rooms (we were in the Chocolate Room) were great, a very comfortable bed looking over a medieval rooftop view that goes on forever. They were decorated very fashionably in deep browns and grays. We were on the garden side and it was quiet and peaceful. The rooms on the street side may be less quiet. The private bath was good with a somewhat small shower that required some bending I have not done since junior high.

This was a great experience!!!!

This was our first stay at the Alegria. Would definitely go back. The rooms were spotless. We stayed in the Zebra Room. The breakfast was very good. Pastries were excellent along with the fresh fruit. Great location. Short walk to the square. Veronique was very helpful with information about what was going on in the city. We enjoyed an Interior Tour of homes that she suggested. Also enjoyed the Chocolate Festival.
