Hotel Bourgoensch Hof

A Little cosy hotel in the center of Brugge with a fantastic view from the terasse and the resturant. The service is in top class very smiling and helpfull staff, hotel is very clean, and the breakfast is exellent.
Hotel has an elevator small but it works fine.
My advice is if you dont care about view from your room AT ALL go for a budget room, they are big and clean, and beds are very good.
If you like a view over wollestraat or the canals pay the extra money, i will definitely do that next time.
Location is perfect !

We will be back no doubt.

On arriving in Bruges by car after a rather stressful journey, I was met at the hotel by a friendly face with helpful clear directions to nearby parking. With the car dealt with we quickly checked in to a spacious and pleasant room. Everything in bruges is a few minutes walk from the hotel with lots of restaurants and coffee shops right on the doorstep. Breakfast was generous ( pastries, cheese, charcuterie, yoghurts, eggs etc)with some great views over the canal in the morning sunlight. Overall a great little hotel with lots of character and friendly helpful staff for a reasonable price.

We have just returned from a weekend in Bruges and I thought I needed to write a review to say how much we enjoyed staying at this hotel. Our room overlooked the canal which was a special feature as we were able to watch visitors on the boats. Our room was warm, clean and very comfortable. The reception staff were very helpful and we ate in the restaurant which was really good. I would certainly stay at this hotel again. The location was first class just off the Market Place and close to some good eating places and shops. Gill and Mick from Malton, North Yorkshire. England

Room Tip: See if you can get one overlooking the canal

This hotel is in a great spot and the staff were friendly. We had a compact room, nice modern bathroom but it the room had character and was easy to relax in. Only downside for us was the absence of any hot breakfast.

After being delayed for over four hours by the weather conditions in Kent and then France, we finally arrived in Brugge. What a disappointment on arrival at this hotel. It is not one hotel but two, the larger part being The Erasmus, admittedly they have knocked through but there is a huge divide between the two.
On arrival I was given a curt greeting and after booking in asked if there was somewhere we could eat, we have been to Brugge before and know that most restaurants close quite early. The chap told us that there were some close by but on looking at his watch said that they were probably closed but to try the Markt. This hotel is advertised as having a bar and bistro ... neither were open at any time during our stay.
When we entered our room I was aghast, we have stayed the odd night in a Travel Lodge and the accommodation they offer was head and shoulders above this.
I went and spoke to the chap on reception to check that we had been given what we had booked a Superior room, he assured me we had; there are two grades down from this a comfort and a budget room!
The room was soulless, with a melted lamp shade stained curtains, cushions and arm chairs. The bad was chipped as was the desk, not even a picture on the wall to break up this cream box.
The icing on the cake was the brown glass bathroom door, which of course you could see straight through, no privacy.
We were given a key card that took us into the Erasmus side of the hotel, it felt like the tradesman's entrance.
Buffet breakfast was fine but I did object to being asked what room we were in every morning, do they do this to check that people haven't come in off the street!
During our whole time we didn't have so much as a smile, or hope you are enjoying your visit. The experience was cold and impersonal and I would never go back to this hotel.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write your concerns through this medium. I was at the front desk upon your arrival and I am sorry that you felt the room did not match your expectations.

The room booked was indeed a superior room which offers about the same standard as the comfort rooms, with air-conditioning as an additional feature. (these descriptions can be found on the various websites) .

The next day you informed us about the lamp shade that was slightly melted. As we try to accommodate all guests to the best of our abilities I have personally replaced the lamp shade that very same day, which sadly you forgot to mention in your review.

Unfortunately you didn't inform us about the stains on the sofa and the curtains during your stay, as otherwise we would have again tried our best to replace them.

I have just been back to the room and indeed the base of the bed and the base of the desk are slightly chipped, and even though no other guests mentioned these before I will put them on the maintenance list.

The tradesman entrance your mention, is a side entrance, enabling guests staying in the part of the building your were in, to take a shortcut for accessing the hotel.

We indeed check for room numbers upon entering the breakfast room as a security measure, as there have been instances in Bruges (luckily not yet in our hotel) where unwanted guests enter the breakfast rooms.

Our restaurant is often closed between January and mid-March, however there are indeed many restaurants nearby catering for many needs.

The cold and impersonal service I find hard to explain as this is normally one of our strengths, perhaps the initial disappointment angled your overall opinion and the manner in scrutinising your stay.

Feel free to contact the hotel for any further questions and concerns, and again I thank you for taking the time to write this review.

Kind regards,

Johannes

Although several visitors have recommended rooms overlooking the canal (which is very picturesque), rooms which overlook Wollestraat catch the sun. Expect a pleasant stay & exceptionally helpful staff. From 15/03/13, the Erasmus Bar/Brasserie will be open & available to both hotel guests & visitors who call in from the street. We would certainly have enjoyed it but unfortunately, we left one day before it re-opened!
Breakfast is generous and the dining room is a delightful period feature with leaded windows & canal views. This is a family-owned hotel & when we had some concerns about our return flights, both Johannes & his sister took a great deal of time to help us.
We would recommend Bourgoensch-Hof to anybody who would appreciate good personal service without the 'blandness' of larger hotels.
