“Enlightening”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

We did not have time to make a second visit this year but I spent a couple of hours in here last year.

For me - as a technologist with an interest in lighting - it was a great visit. The early material about fat and grease lamps was quite interesting but the display of ingenious oil lamps with magnificently engineered systems for refilling, keeping wick at correct length etc. was great.

The later material about filament lamps was interesting in historic and technological contexts.

Some up-dating of the 'latest' section would be a good idea.

If you have an interest in this sort of thing - a very good visit - if not ........ !! but then again I am not interested in a chip museum so - horses for courses!!

“Was ok! Had the whole place to ourselves”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

We went in here because we had a city card. It is inside the chocolate museum with separate entrance. Not really our thing but was interesting. A lot of lamps on display. Was nobody else in so we just wandered round on our own.

“Old light, needs update!”
Reviewed 15 April 2013

When you expect to learn about modern lighting technology, this is not the place to go. After climbing stairs and lenghty dwelling on ancient lighting times, the museum ends with 2008 knowledge and states that LED is not really a serious light source for general use. Please update your exhibition.

“Excellent and different”
Reviewed 26 March 2013

Worth a visit as a different and informing experience. Traces the history of light. Very much enjoyed this attraction. Hidden gem as everyone pushing through the chocolate museum. No one else was there except me and my mum over 3floors! Strange experience!

Entrance is through the chocolate museum and beware once in the light museum section you have to exit the exhibition to get a toilet. This means re entering through the main entrance and re using your Bruges card to get another ticket. Go before you start!

A definite must when in Bruges.

“Chocolate and chips leave this hidden gem”
Reviewed 4 January 2013

People only seem to know about the chocolate and chip museum in Bruges however there is also this little offset Lamp one. At first I felt sorry for it as it sounded a bit odd however after finding the choco museum disappointing in being far too busy, not really that much information and only really enjoyed the lego figures acting out history!

This meant that we had the whole lamp place to ourselves and got to see the development of them from the start being fire (a fun part with the forest fire section that scared me!) It was interesting seeing how they all changed with the introduction of oils through to electricity.

Give this place a chance and you may just find a little hidden gem.
