“Bad oders coming from toilette”
Reviewed 1 November 2010

Positives: The hotel was in a pretty convenient location. A 10min walk to the train and the path is a wide sidewalk so very manageable. It is also about a 10min walk to the main center/ square. There a lot of restaurants near by. We didn't eat near by as it was off season and a lot of them were closed or not much going on/atmosphere. There is also a lot of shopping right near by on the way to the square. The room was a decent size for 3 of us staying in it. The bathroom was also a good size. The hotel was very quite.
Downside: There was very bad smell from the toilette in our room. We had to keep the lid closed and the bathroom door closed just to manage it. The shower was a bit difficult to manage. There were two different shower heads and to keep from water spraying out of the shower you had to point the head directly at the shower wall. It wasn't a deal breaker just more of a hassle. The beds were not very comfortable especially the extra bed rolled into the room. The double bed, which was two twins pushed together) had wooden frames around each one so there was a hard wooden gap in the middle. I actually like the two twin beds pushed together it was the wood frame that made it uncomfortable. The breakfast was okay but on the first morning there were ants crawling all over the drawer containing the honey, nuetlla etc packets.

A 15 minute walk from the train station this hotel is on the edge of the tourist section of town but still provides an ideal base for walking the lovely streets of Brugge. The rooms in this hotel are all different with the quality of each varying. For example the noisey street front room has an old square TV on top of the wardrobe whereas a nice quiete back room will be large and hve flate screen with good quality fittings. It may pay to checkout the room before accepting which one.
The staff are very pleasent and helpful. The breakfast is typical european with cold meats and cheese but is still very nice. If you want English then sorry you will need to go elsewhere.
We enjoyed our few days here and given teh expense that is Brugge this does represent a value place to stay.
For meals head on town to the main square about 15 from the hotel.

1 night in Aug 2010.

Pros
Hotel had a weird layout with a + and - floors (eg split floors 2+/2-/3+/3-), but it has a lift and no problems finding the room.
Location is good – about 10-15min walk from the train station – need to cross the first road outside the train station then head north alongside the park (on the right) slightly past the major square area. 5-10min walk to the Markt square.
Free Wifi internet
Cold breakfast included was good.
Umbrellas were provided by the door. Very helpful considering it was raining during our stay.
No tea/coffee facilities, No minibar – It is more of a guesthouse/B&B rather than a hotel.
Reception was poorly manned. Even after ringing the bell noone seem to be around (cant hear the bell?)

Overall a great little place. Quiet city, great little niches, would come back to spend a few days. We took a day trip to St Sixtus Abbey (Westvleteren) - Excellent beer!!!

Booked this fairly last-minute to watch the Tour of Flanders and was more than happy. €60 for a room with 3 people. Comfy rooms, good breakfast included, friendly staff. Free wireless internet. Free gym in basement. Slept really well. Just outside of historic part of Bruges but just a short walk into the middle and about 15mins walk from the train station. Definitely worth the price paid, would recommend for an inexpensive weekend away.

Enjoyed staying here, the rooms were comfortable and clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great. Only a short walk into the centre of Bruges and very close to the train station. Would stay here again.

Just back from 3 nights at the Maraboe. I went with my husband and sister/bro-in-law.

We decided to walk from the train station - good choice on a nice day, it only took about 10mins straight down 1 long road. Hotel is in a decent location on the T'zand square, good choice if you like the market on a saturday. This square isn't the best in Bruges and is on the outskirts in terms of what you can visit, though the main area where the canals and other attractions are, are only a short 10min walk.

The hotel: We were very disappointed with the bedrooms. It was shabby, tired but at least clean. The en-suite was the same. The photos on the hotels website are very misleading and made me think I was getting something else - a boutique style hotel, which this most certainly isn't.

There are 14 rooms. When we arrived we were greeted well and advised we could have the family room (2 doubles and 1 bathroom) or 2 dobule rooms with en suite. We were shown them all so could choose. We went for the doubles with en-suite for privacy. My sister and partner had room 11 which was at the front of the hotel, despite double glazing she still heard the traffic, we had room 10 facing the back, no real view and one night a dog that howled til dawn (not the hotels fault I'm sure!). All rooms we seen were of the same quality, but then on a city break you don't spend too much time there I suppose.

Breakfast was as you'd expect for a continental. Basic. Ham, cheese, white bread for toast, small cobs, crossants & pan au chocolat (cold), v.small selection of fruit, yogurt jams, plenty of coffee/tea/orange juice and water.

Restaurants:
The food is great in Bruges. The Flemish pot has got to be done! Their beef stew is to die for! Eating out can be quite expensive so should around. Stay away from the main squares, especially the tower square where we were told they charge you extra for 2nd beer and have hidden charges.

Damme was great (quaint village 4 miles away) and certainly worth the visist, theres a steam boat that will take you from Bruges but we caught the bus (can pay on bus don't need tkts as you might excpect from bus station). You could also walk along the canal to get there. The tower there is lovely, though walking up to the top is cheap (1 euro) not for the feint hearted so my husband told me!

Hotel Plus points:
Flat screen tv in bedroon with UK terrestrial channels
Comfy bed with clean sheets
nice dining area
nice smell in the foyer

Hotel negatives:
shabby tired bedrooms and en-suite
decorating poor quality (paint on ceilings from walls etc)
carpet could be replaced
stairs to foyer are steep though there is a lift

I would love to go back to Bruges again but would definitely stay at another hotel, even if I had to pay a few pounds more, which I probably wouldn't have to.

Hotel itself was nicely decorated and rooms too, although finishing touches could have been a bit better for some parts.
Good size room, fine for somewhere to end the day. comfy bed.
Breakfast included was lovely and staff very welcoming and friendly.

Location is great, just outside is a weekly market and a walk of 3 minutes and you're in the centre of brugge!

A perfect hotel for a few nights stay.
