Hotel Koffieboontje
Ranked #85 of 97 Hotels in Bruges
Reviewed 28 June 2011

The hotel is rated 3 stars but this must have been for a part we did not see. The room we had was shabby and the linen could best be described as tired. The room overlooked a 'drinking pub' which possibly due to the cool weather was not well attended so noise was not a problem- but could be in different circumstances.
Checking in was smooth and the Reception staff were extremely helpful with local information.
Breakfast was adequate in a room that could be made more interesting with a little effort.
The hotel is located very near the Grote Markt and bus stops.

Room Tip: Street side possibly quieter in summer

My daughter and I stayed for one night in May 11, and had a wonderful time in Brugge.

We arrived well before check-in, but were able to leave our luggage, and then explored the city on foot. Everything of interest in the center of Brugge is within a 10min walk of this hotel.

When we returned later in the afternoon our room was ready. As with many hotels in the older buildings and cities of europe the stairs were small and winding, and the rooms were here, there, and everywhere. There is a lift of you need it.

We had booked a twin room, but found that it was actually a double plus single, but the single was more of a sofa bed/put you up, and the double had seen better days. The bathroom was lovely, and obviously recently renovated. The large windows, and upper floor gave the room a bright and airy feeling. There was a TV, with mostly belgium channels, but some british, and satellite one too. Tea and coffee stuff too. Extra pillows were found in the cupboards if you needed them.

Despite being on a street close to the market square the hotel was quiet, and we had a good nights sleep.

The next morning, after getting a bit lost, we did find the breakfast room! This was one of the better breakfasts I have had in a small european city hotel. Everything you could ask for and more. Cereals, fruits, breads and pastries, hams, cheeses, cooked stuff...even cava at no extra charge (maybe I should have paid, but none of the staff asked me to!).

The staff were helpful and polite, and always ready to assist. Gave us good advice on where, and where not, to eat for lunches and dinner.

We were again able to leave our luggage after check out, as we had a few hours to kill before heading off to Zeebrugge for or ferry back to the UK.

Was a bit apprehensive when booking this place as it was ranked rather low on TA, but rolled the dice on this one (even though I still can't pronounce the name of the place). The front desk staff was very courteous, even though we arrived early in the morning and took our bags from us so we could see the sights and come back in the afternoon once the room was ready. There is a place to rent bikes right out front and a decent sized grocery store around the corner (go out the front, make two rights and it's down on the right side of the street!).
The lay-out inside is very unique, parts of the hallway slope up and down . The actual room could use some refurbishing, but I thought it was fine for one night and for what we paid. Thought the included breakfast was great...... lots of options, good quality and the room was really cool.
I can see why some people wouldn't like the place, but for a quick stay it's perfectly fine and you really cannot beat the location. Avoid the hotel restaurant on the corner of the street, went just for drinks and the people working there were not nice at all!

This hotel is in a great location, quiet and almost on the central square!
Breakfast was buffet but in a really old breakfast place with old furniture. The room was renewed and big.One important minus was the smell because of the humidity on the corridors and the breakfast place.

I ate at the restaurant here and don't think I have ever encountered such rudeness and stupidity in tandem anywhere in my 30+ years on this earth. Forgetting food yet insisting on payment for it. Chips delayed but yet a staff member taking a break managed to find a bowl of them for himself. When we eventually got some they were slammed on the table without an apology. They even seemed confused by how many of us there were (4).

My mum and I stayed here on a recent trip to Bruges. Now the location is amazing, from my room I could see the Belfry and the horses in the Markt.
The hotel was quiet and was generally clean but it really needs a refurbishment, the decor on the rooms is shabby and in the bathroom there was mould in the grouting and a tempermental shower.
Breakfast was nice, however the room that it was served in was in the cellar which also needs a refurbishment.
We paid a little more for this hotel in our package as we wanted to be more central, so I am unsure of what it would be priced at.
But after renovation this hotel could charge more.
Fantastic Location.
