“Charming hotel with lots of character”
Reviewed 9 May 2014 via mobile

We stayed here for two nights and found the hotel (and its staff) to be quite charming. This hotel is old, but not run down. It fits in its surroundings. Our room was on the second floor and had a great little balcony overlooking the garden, quite a nice surprise (and because we were next to the garden, the room was also very quiet!) The room itself was cozy (watch your head on the wooden beams) but had plenty of space for what we needed. The bathroom was modern and clean. The location of the hotel is excellent, close to many sights and eateries.

Based on two old houses, overlooking a canal and just 5 minutes' walk from the centre of town, this hotel forms an excellent base for a short stay in Brugge. Parking is in a public car park, or the hotel's own car park, both about 10 minutes' walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked the canal, but the down-side is noise from traffic on the cobbled street.

Room Tip: If your room overlooks the canal, you need to put up with noise from the cobbled street.

This is a lovely hotel with bags of character , it is just a few minutes stroll from the centre of town ,and overlooks the canal .
We found all of the staff very, very helpful nothing was to much trouble.
The breakfast is good ,but make sure you book as part of the package ,otherwise you will end up paying 22 euros each !
The disappointing side was our room , this weekend was booked as part of a special birthday treat and I had hoped and paid for a really nice room. however we were given a room right next to the entrance which was noisy at times, but the biggest disappointment was the size it was no bigger than a broom cupboard and had only a tiny wardrobe and no draws at al,l which meant we had to live out of our cases , it was also very dark and dingy. not what I would expect from a four star hotel.
The up side was the bathroom which is new and well appointed.
Overall a nice stay ,great staff , shame about the room

Stayed here over 2 nights in May, room was large, clean and well equipped. Found the bed extremely comfortable.
The breakfast is well worth having but only if you book as part of the package.
Special mention to the front desk team who found us an excellent restaurant for 6 people on a busy Friday night.

If we go back to Bruges will stay here again.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was comfortable, but a bit on the dark side (No 25) with a view of the courtyard garden. We even had a very small patio/balcony! The hotel staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they were very friendly. The hotel is a bit shabby chic and there was no lounge which was a bit disappointing. The dining room was spotless with white linen tablecloths at breakfast, along with white linen napkins. For breakfast (buffet) there was all that anyone could want to eat along with bubbly should anyone want to drink it in the morning. The hotel is well situated for sightseeing, being only a short walk from the Markt place. We did enjoy our stay here, we were here for 5 nights.

This is an impressive old hotel. We had a huge corner room on the top floor with wooden beams and lovely views over rooftops and the hotel garden.

The breakfast was amazing (but, as we discovered on checking out, not included in the Eurostar package price).

On the negative side, we had booked a room with three seperate beds and were given one with two. Luckily my two friends didn't mind sharing the huge double. The second bed was not the most comfortable and creaked on its casters during the night. Also, there was a bath but no 'proper' shower - there was one attached to the bath taps but using it meant squatting down in the bath as there was no curtain, screen or tiling.

Overall, a pretty good hotel.

Dear Alexis N,

Thank you for reviewing our hotel on Tripadvisor.

I am sorry to read that you had some issues during your stay. I feel like most of them were based on a misunderstanding..

Normally when booking our hotel through Eurostar, you should have both options – with or without breakfast. We noticed already that this is not always very clear, so normally we inform our guests about this when checking in. Apparently this did not happen to you, so please accept our apologies for this. Also, when a Eurostar booking reaches us, we can only see the total number of persons, so we never know about specific requests (for example about the bed types). We are always relieved if someone who books through Eurostar gives us a quick ring or e-mail to communicate their specific requests. This also makes the booking a bit more “personal”, which we prefer as we are a rather small and classic hotel. As we only have 44 rooms, our guests are not a “number” and we are always happy with any kind of additional information in order to personalize their reservations (both for the breakfast and the bed-type or any other specifications).

If you would ever consider visiting Bruges and our hotel again, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Kind Regards,
Sofie Goossens – General Manager

We have been to Bruge 6 or 7 times and love it but this is our first visit to this hotel. I feel virtually all the reviews I read are very valid, This is a lovely, friendly hotel, yes the staircase is to be avoided and a couple of the rooms are to be avoided (but read the reviews and you know which to avoid).
We stayed in room 18 overlooking the garden, a large size room and bathroom. Sadly no shower curtain or screen so the floor gets wet. Oh and no non-slip mat. But, what a lovely old building and the decoration and antique furnishings are great.
Staff, were (all but one) friendly, helpful and happy to share a joke and give good advice.
Now for best bit. The Breakfast. This really is worth going for, with service until 10.30. It can be a long affair as there is so much to choose from: fresh fruit, cereals, gorgeous bread, fresh juice, champagne, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, sausages, bacon plus a selection of lovely croissants and pastries. Coffee was excellent. As it was Easter there were lots and lots of chocolate eggs etc. Plus a few items I have missed out. David, the Food & Beverage Manager is terrific, everything is kept topped up, whatever you want he will get it for you. Sadly when he is not on duty things are not so good, whomever the other chap is needs retraining.

Would we go again, you bet, a lovely hotel and nearly all great staff.

Room Tip: Read the reviews for rooms you may not wish to reserve.
