“Very smoky atmosphere”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 October 2013 via mobile

If you like your bars to be crowded and full of cigarette smoke and a crush of bodies blocking your way to the bar this is the place. I only managed to get one drink and gave up on the wait and the smoke.

“Neat little bar in Bruges”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 September 2013

We read a lot of good reviews and thought this bar sounded different so we set out to find out. It turns out we had passed it multiple times between our rental apartment and seeing the sights. The first time we actually tried to find it it wasn't open. We went back and had a beer later and liked the ambience. Then we went to order another beer and waited at the bar for ten minutes before realizing the bartender was on his phone in the entrance. We were the only people there and he looked at us a few times, so we left. It could have been a one time thing, but we were only there the one time, so I can rate it higher.

“Follow That Monk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2013

That little fellow on the door, there? The monk with the chalice? Come back in the evening and the doors to his cellar will be open wide and welcoming you in. You'll step down into a candle-lit, hops-strewn, atmospheric den of beer indulgence. Featuring an impressive beer menu, great prices, and knowledgeable staff (the owner is particularly hospitable!). Not sure what you want to drink? Ask a bartender. They may ask you what kind of flavours you prefer, and they'll recommend a beer to your taste. Ask for a little more information about a beer you enjoy, and you're bound to get an interesting story about it. The crowd is on the younger side, but don't let that dissuade you if you fall outside that demographic (we didn't!). It's a fun place, full of personality with a great vibe - finding it is half the fun. It's open late, and if you're lucky, you'll snag a corner with some lounge chairs!

“Do you smell a rat?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2013 via mobile

We went to this bar based on an online recommendation. You really have to look out for it, as it's small entrance is so small it's easily missed. We did go into the bar around 7.30pm and so we were early.
The cellar bar itself is definitely unusual, I can imagine on a cold day it's very cosy. However we visited on a hot day and there was a very strange strong smell about the place. Being a farmers son, I know what a dead rat smells like and there definitely a few of those down there! Shame because the service was good and the selection of beers was also good, but we couldn't stand the stench for more than one drink, So left.
This may be one to recommend on a winters day and later on in the evening.

“Blink and you'll miss it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2013

Hidden away though the small door, this place must be visited. Great atmosphere, and lighting (maybe slightly too dark to see all the beers in the fridges). Great selection with great prices.
