First the big negative.

During our stay in mid May there was a large fair sited immediately outside the hotel in 'T Zand square. Our companions' room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the square and the noise was horrendous. Reception advised that the music would be turned off at 10 pm. This was not the case and continued until 1.30 am when it was replaced by the sound of drunken revellers, fighting and police sirens. Closing the windows helped only a little but brought with it the disadvantage of an overheated and stuffy room – despite the air-conditioner. Fortunately they secured a move to a room at the rear where it was quieter but others were not so lucky. The fair started closing and packing up on the third night. For a relaxing break in a beautiful medieval city this was a disaster.

What really rankles is that according to a resident this fair is a regular one month long yearly event, always during the same weeks, always in 'T Zand and yet no warning was given by the tour company or the hotel. All that's required is a simple “Please note that from mid-April to mid-May there will be a fair in 'T Zand and there will be some noise at night”

Stayed at this hotel 18 – 21 May as part of a coach B&B package so reasonably priced. Excellent location, rooms in the original building adequate, clean but in need of refreshing with a little redecoration. Bathroom recently refurbished, small but smart. Bed linen towels etc all very clean. No tea/coffee making facilities. There is a more modern extension but no information on the quality of rooms there.

Continental breakfast OK although the fruit salad tasted somewhat synthetic and the scrambled egg and bacon were always tepid when available. No 'rationing' so free to graze and top-up coffee and fruit juice at will.

Pleasant bar with reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and helpful, although the receptionist that said the fairground music would cease at 10 misled us I think. In summary our accommodation did not really rate four stars but if you avoid the weeks of the fair and lower your expectations to three stars then it's adequate.

Room Tip: If staying during the Spring fair a room at the back is a must.

A nice bar and restaurant and a big reception area gave the effect of a much bigger hotel. Unfortunately the room we had (No 343) was very small and cramped. Not sure I could manage more that one or two nights in it.
The shower head was defective and the shower mixer tap was coming away from the wall. I have never had a shower where the water was a horizontal spray!
I though the rooms were a bit pricey considering they were cramped and the shower was in need of repair. The door also opened out into the corridor which I found rather strange.
The air con unit did not work and we had to have the window open.
However, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and gave us some good advise with regard to where we should start our tour and what places to look out for. I would definitely have to think twice about staying here again when next in Brugge.

We were two of a coach party to Bruges who stayed at the Park Hotel from 14-18 May 2012. The hotel is unprepossessing from the outside but inside the Reception area is pleasant and the staff friendly. Unfortunately there is only one small lift which can't accommodate more than four people so it took quite a while for all of the coach party to get to their rooms.

I am told that the square outside the hotel is usually quite pretty, but whilst we were there it was taken over by a fair complete with dizzy rides and flashing lights which made it look like an offshoot of Blackpool. The fair was directly opposite the hotel so the people in the rooms at the front had to put up with the noise until 11 pm when it closed down.

Happily, we were allocated Room 330 on the third floor at the back of the hotel which overlooked a pleasant courtyard and was away from the noise. The room was quite large and the beds - two large singles pushed together to form a double - were comfortable. There was a flat-screen television on the wall with English channels accessible, and also a fridge, which was a bonus. An oddity of the rooms is the lack of either a screen or a curtain for the bath which makes it impossible to use the very efficient shower without getting water over the floor.

The fire escape for our room was somewhat unusual. It consisted of a metal ladder outside the window and to one side of it. The escapee would have to reach out of the window and slide the ladder partway across the window, before climbing through the window onto the ladder to descend. Hmm!

The continental breakfast was adequate apart from the orange juice which had been diluted to the extent that it was little more than coloured water. We asked about evening meals, but were told that these were only available for coach parties which had made pre-arranged group bookings. There was a pleasant bar in which to sit and enjoy a drink.

Our visit included Ascension Day on which most of the shops were closed and a procession lasting about 2 hours proceeded through the streets. These depicted scenes from the life of Christ and included camels, horses, and, inexplicably, two flocks of sheep with a sheepdog attempting to herd them along the narrow cobbled pathway. The procession started near to the hotel and chairs lining the route could be hired for four or five euros.

The Park Hotel is reasonable value for money. It is conveniently situated a short walk away from the main square and if I were to go to Bruges again I would certainly consider a second stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at back of hotel are quieter.

Just returned from a 4 night stay part of a coach group and I would really have to rack my brains to find something to complain about. Truth to tell , I was pleasantly surprised. Following room tips from previous reviews I did email the hotel to request a large room with a fridge, if possible. Lo and behold, Room 440, at the back, but, quiet except for schoolchildren playing in their school yard before the morning bell-not intrusive whatsoever.
The beds were very comfortable, shower and bath squeaky clean and gushed hot water, plenty of storage space including hangers, trouser press, hair dryer, large make up mirror in the bathroom, table and chairs and flat screen wall hung TV on bracket so no problem viewing in bed. Plenty of channel choice too-BBC 1, 2, ITV 1and 2.No, no tea making facilities, but, not unusual in European hotels. So, if this is important to you, take your travel kettle. The receptionist kindly lent me an adaptor as I had forgotten mine.
Location is fine, very close to bus station and Tourist Information Centre and a host of cafes and restaurants within spitting distance. About a 10 minute walk to tourist hub of Bruges.
Breakfast is plentiful if a little uninspiring but admirably suited to coach party Brits. Selection of breads and rolls, hams, salami, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, olives, tomatoes, pains au chocolat ,
croissants, Danish pastries and the ubiquitous cornflakes and muesli with Greek yogurt. All buffet style so there is a fair bit of shuttling back and forth to refill juice glasses and tea/coffee cups.
Breakfast is taken in the atrium , but, there is a separate bar area and spacious seating in reception-post cards , city guides and some souvenirs for sale. Also an Apple computer for Internet access-at a charge. But, I think there is free WiFi if you take tout own iPad etc.
The staff were really helpful , giving directions and making a restaurant booking.
All in all, 2 very satisfied customers.

Room Tip: An email in advance to the hotel outlining your requirements does not seem to go amiss.

The best about this hotel is its central location and nice entrance at the central square. Its overall quality is all right, not bad and not outstanding. Breakfast is ok, employees are friendly. Just good.

We stayed here for a long weekend with Crusader Holidays on a bed and breakfast basis.
The hotel is located on one of the main squares and we found all the hotel staff were extremely friendly and welcoming.
Our room was on the top floor at the back of the hotel so was very quiet and private; it was a nice sized room with lots of storage space and a fridge (bonus).
Breakfast was served in the conservatory and there was a very good selection of cereals, cold meats and cheese, also for those not embracing the continental breakfast there was boiled and scrambled eggs and sausages.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Brugge.
