We walked in off the street and we´re very glad we did. For a start it´s well located. Proof of that is clear enough. Malleburg is right beside two major international-class hotels! Secondly, it´s the kind of homely small hotel you always hope to find but rarely can, low key, neat and clean, doing its job consistently and well at affordable prices. Nicest touch is the tasty, fresh breakfast served in a basement big enough to accommodate at least twice the number of people staying there. Only one very modest downside - some rooms are beside a sometimes noisy side street. We could have done without the Brit footy supporters passing through with their drunken rendition of their national anthem at 4a.m. But that´s life. Do try Malleburg. You won´t be disappointed.

Truly a nice stay in this charming older hotel. Much attention is given to keeping rooms neat and clean. Great breakfast buffet in the AM. Staff was very helpful in providing tips for places to see, eat and drink. Our quick visit to Bruges was wonderful. Hotel Malleberg only added to our time there.

We've visited Bruges twice before and stayed at nice hotels. However, this hotel had it all. Nice rooms and bathrooms. Very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was excellent and plenty to choose from. Our only concern was that we were with our 82 year old Mom and asked for a room on the first floor, we did not realize that the 1st floor is actually the second floor. In Europe 0 is the 1st floor. No elevator, but we managed. Good to know for future that they have a family room on level 0 that must be like a suite. Would recommend for anyone in a situation like ours above should request that.
Great location to the center of the city.

This hotel is on a really pretty street in Bruges right in the centre. The room was large and the breakfast was great, delicious croissants. The owner was very helpful and even sorted out our bus route to get to the football stadium.

A clean hotel, with extensive cold buffet breakfast, very helpful and friendly owners, and an excellent location. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well.
Our room was warm - you can regulate the very efficient radiators yourself - and despite the window facing the street, there was no noise problem at all. Having read the reviews, we expected to hear ''everything'' from the other rooms but that just didn't happen. Maybe it helped that -at least on our top floor-the rooms were actually separated by their respective bathrooms.
The only problem with the room was that without putting the lights on it seemed very dark, also in the middle of the day. Perhaps it's due to the combination of the weather with the decor but we just felt the room was a bit gloomy.

A lovely hotel in the centre of this lovely town. We stayed for two nights right at the beginning of January - myself, my partner and our two small boys. We had the ground floor room (which was really a suite), so we didn't have to climb any stairs except the one or two at the hotel's entrance. Travellers should be warned that there are a lot of stairs and no lift, so book the ground floor if you can.

We were amazed at how big the room was - the boys even had their own bedroom, which delighted them. Both bedrooms were very spacious with plenty of storage and large beds. The room was very warm - in fact, we had to turn the radiators off because, even in freezing January, it got quite stuffy. The decor was elegant, like much of the town.

The owners - a quiet couple - were very friendly and helpful; and the breakfast is served in a lovely downstairs room. We were tempted by the afternoon tea (served in the same place), but we would have had to cross Bruges to get back in time for it. Note that the hotel doesn't do any hot food at all, not even at breakfast (although we don't have a problem with that, other people might).

The best thing of all is the location - about thirty seconds' walk to the Burg, the large square where the Basilica of the Holy Blood is. From there it's another minute's walk (if you're going slowly) to the Markt. So it couldn't be more conveniently situated. Of course, the price you pay (apart from the money) is that there's no parking so if you're bringing your car you'll have to fight for a car park space somewhere else.

There weren't many downsides - the soundproofing isn't great (this is an old building, after all) so I'd plead with anyone staying here to walk as softly as possible on the stairs. The pillows were square, rather than rectangular, but this was the case in other Belgian hotels too.

In a town where the tourist trade doesn't let up there are plenty of places too willing to take your money and make little effort in return - but the Malleberg isn't one of them. Strongly recommended.

Just about to book this hotel for 7 nights in April next year, member of my group was a smoker so emailed the hotel direct to ask the question on smoking rooms - here is the reply - No, the hotel is 100% non smoking! Quite abrupt and to the point, I felt., Maybe a little gem, but could do with a little coaching in the customer care department. could be that 40 of the party of 44 might have booked, or might have booked in the future. Felt I had to add these comments as there still are a smokers who do go away for weekends breaks just as non-smokers do.
