I would highly recommend the Malleberg. It is exceedingly clean, simply decorated, and an excellent value. The only drawback was that the wifi was inconsistent. We will definitely return to the Malleberg.

This is a quaint hotel with about 10 rooms with a basement (very midevil) breakfast area. It has a great location close to the town square and is close to all sights. The owner is very friendly, speaks english and is quite accomodating. I enjoyed boiling my egg every morning and having a slice of the fresh baguette with some of the creamed cheese they had. The beds are comfortable and I loved the courtyard. We took our son and had a room with two queens and still had some room to walk around in the room. There is in room coffee and tea with a hot water pot. What I really enjoyed was the stairs squeaking when you climbed them....added to the charm! Reasonably priced for the ambience.

Room Tip: Our room faced the street but was great to see all the views from there. Not a lot of noise overall...

We booked this hotel on the fly, a couple of hours prior to arrival, travelling from the South of Europe to Scandinavia.
Since we didn't have GPS in the car, we got completely lost in Bruge, and despite our very late arrival, the gentleman in charge patiently waited up for us and guided us through the somewhat difficult streets in the old city by phone :)
Upon arrival, we asked him to point us to a place to eat, which is difficult at such a late hour, but unfortunately he wasn't too good at that.
My room was on the top floor on the back side of the house - quiet, clean, had comfortable beds and a clean, completely modern bath room (alas no bath tub).
Breakfast in a cave like cellar of the building was opulent and gave us a good start for our continued journey to the North of Europe.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not facing the street

We stayed one night at this hotel and wish we could have stayed more. We flew into Brussels and made the hour drive to Bruges. We had no reservations, there were three of us travelling together, and our first stop was the Hotel Casselburgh to see if they had rooms available. They did, but offered no last minute deals. I was a bit bummed, since the entrance was grand and I was looking forward to being pampered. We then went right across the street to the Hotel Malleberg, although not quite as grand, it was very cozy, a lot more friendly and comfortable.

We were visiting beginning of December, so not sure this area is always availalbe so last minute during high season. We got two rooms for an incredible rate, and we loved the place. It was a great location, walked everywhere. The owners are so nice and accomadating, especially since we had no reservations. The breakfast area is historic and the breakfast was delicious. There was internet service in the breakfast area which was helpful in getting directions to our next spot.

There are lots of cute options to stay, some on the water in Bruges, but I did not feel we were missing out by not being on the canals. The hotel is small and cozy, but the rooms are a very nice size. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place with nice people, great breakfast and good value.
