“Our Family Loved It Here”
Reviewed 29 May 2013

I was a bit worried about our reservation in Bruges. I needed to book a family suite and it seemed like there was little choice for hotel rooms of this size. I definitely worried for nothing because the family suite on the ground floor was a comfortable haven for our family after long days of sightseeing. It was huge! One very large master bedroom for myself and my husband and another room with single beds for the kids. The bathroom was very large with both a shower and a great soaking tub of which I made great use. The decor was very fresh and vibrant and it was a nice contrast to the surrounding 'old town' Bruges.
The owners, particularly Frank were very helpful during my exhaustive inquiries about local eateries.
The provided wifi worked really well and the kids found some entertaining French and Dutch TV programs :)
Breakfast was adequate. Delicious croissants, baguettes, boiled eggs, cheese, and a selection of fruit and yoghurt.
I told everyone back in Canada that we had hit the hotel jackpot and if I would not pause to recommend Hotel Malleburg to anyone planning a stay in Bruges.

Note: As per the previous review, we could not figure out a way to shower without making a huge puddle on the bathroom floor. Since the floor is also tiled this could become a problem if someone were to slip.

I miss Bruges already and I'm dreaming about all the beer I missed having at Cambrinus. I only got to try six of the 400 beers on the menu. Maybe I need to visit again?

I just returned from a lovely stay at Hotel Malleberg in Brugge, and am already planning my next visit! My family of four (two adults, two children ages 6 and 4) stayed in the family suite, a spacious two-bedroom unit on the ground floor. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, and the vaulted ceilings added a sense of grandeur. The bathroom was adequate - separate room for the toilet, which was nice, but the shower leaked onto the floor and was slow to drain. The breakfast/lounge area downstairs was charming and cozy, and breakfast was quite good (standard assortment of breads and spreads, meats, cheese, eggs for you to boil, and fantastic pate!). I found the proprietors to be friendly and unobtrusive, and were very helpful when we had questions about navigating the local area. The location of the hotel is outstanding - a half-block from the Burg, a few more minutes to the Markt, and no more than a 15 minute walk from anywhere in the pedestrian-friendly historic area. We were very pleased with our stay, and look forward to visiting again!

We enjoyed our stay in the small and charming hotel in the centre of Bruges. But we were disappointed by the sometimes rather dull service. Our experience, whatever you do, don't be early for breakfast, even just two minutes before time and you'll be told off.

Hello,
Sorry to read about the 'earlybreakfastproblem".
When asked in advance an early breakfast is no problem at all.
But when you show up 20 min (not 2 min ) before breakfast opening hour, while we are still preparing the breakfastbuffet, we ask our guests to wait a little bit in the lounge until everything is ready.I think that is quite normal.Sorry if that was a problem, therefore our apoligies.

Silent hotel, close to the central square (Markt). As Bruges must be enjoyed on foot, there is a an underground parking lot not far from the hotel. The staff was very helpful and even reserved space for us. The room is comfortable, and breakfast is good. The only disadvantage to take into account (that I think must be normal in other old buildings in the historic part of the city) is that the hotel has no elevator, so staying -for example- on the second floor can be a problem for some people.

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Malleberg. It is VERY well located very close to the main square and several good restaurants though still is a relatively quiet, little corner. The hotel was very clean and very artfully decorated. It has a small, but nicely decorated back patio. The room was not quite mid-sized but still roomy enough. The bathroom was fairly small and a bit awkward (there also weren't a bunch of extra items provided like bar soaps and shampoos etc.) We were also asked to pre-pay for the two nights lodging upon check-in (which I found a bit odd). The owners appear to live on-site and both seemed pleasant enough.

Bottom line: we were looking for a well situated, clean place to sleep for a reasonable price. The Hotel Malleberg met the mark perfectly. It was a nice place and I would stay there again as well as recommend it to friends.

Excellent central location, extremely quiet hotel with lovely, helpful staff. The hotel was full, but you wouldn't have known it as it was so quiet. Fantastic breakfast, although not cooked if you are expecting that (you can boil an egg). Excellent value. We parked in the station car park for 3.50 euros a day which was great value compared to the underground carparks in Bruges - you also get a free bus ticket into town. The return bus will cost you 2.00 euros per person, but you can walk depending on the amount of luggage you have! Facilities in rooms are very good and everything you would expect for a 3* hotel. All in all this was a great value for money stay and I would definitely stay here again.

After much web surfing we decided to choose this hotel. Cost wise very reasonable compared to other hotels. Location perfect for access to city centre with big plus, breakfast included AND a very good one too. Many hotels will charge extra for that which if you only want a slice of toast then approx. 30 x Euros extra is a lot to pay for!!! Rooms large, warm and comfortable (we had a double bed plus a single in ours). Gave a 4 score though because of dark red decor and use of low energy bulbs which gave it a rather gloomy appearance. We were very happy with our choice and would stay there again. Would recommend to others.
Re getting there from station, take a taxi. Too many cobble stone pavements to take a wheeled suitcase!!
