“15th Century Fairytale Palace with modern fittings”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2012

This is our second time in Brugge, we were driven from Ghent to Brugge by chauffeur Brussels. The hotel is located at the end of a small lane near the main square of Brugge city. We had a superior double room well equipped with modern but regal feeling with a view of the 3 cathedrals, Belfry Tower towering over the city square, Spire of Church of our lady and the Tower of Saint Salvador. The bathroom had underfloor heating and the beds were so comfortable it was quite difficult to get out of bed in the mornings.
We enjoyed the manuscript restaurant it had a unique appeal the food was delicious the atmosphere very romantic and relaxing the staff were very professional and helpful with the menu, we wanted to have dinner the next night (Sunday) at the restaurant but found out it was closed We also loved the Bar Atelier their lunch (nice, quiet and peaceful) the evening pre-dinner drinks, cocktails, wines and beers we enjoyed very much. We found Brugge a bit touristy it was best to head back to the hotel after sight-seeing and enjoy the comforts and good food.
Duke’s Palace is in a great location in the city everything is within walking distance, to the market square surrounded by 100’s of gift shops, restaurants, horse drawn carriage rides, variety of delicious Belgian chocolate shops choices are endless, lace shops, 200’s or more of Belgian beers to sample, wiff of the Belgian waffle topped with cream, the 15 century Belfry tower hovering over the sky, the gilded Basilica of the Holly Blood in Burg Square and the boat rides along the canals.
We walked the whole city and we loved it, we loved walking along the river in Minnewater Park seeing the swans, ducks and birds swimming and pampering themselves, the horses pulling carts and pirouetting on cobbled stone roads with tourists drenched and under heavy blankets. Cruise boats crisscrossing along the canal with beautiful drops of arched stone bridges.
We enjoyed our stay very much, the staff during our stay did their utmost to make us feel at home, we had problems with our phone line and wi-fi but that was taken care of immediately. The only other things I would like to share with other reviews comments about wi-fi and manuscript restaurant closed on Sunday apart from that this hotel is close to number one of our favourites.
We will certainly like to stay in another Kempinski Hotel in other parts of the world when travelling. We would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Brugge.

A conversion of a medieval Dukes of Burgundy palace, this hotel combines character with modernism. With private gardens and quirky modern art sculpture it is an oasis in this beautiful city. Prices match the style. Attentive and helpful multilingual staff. We had an enormous, charming and well equipped room with a bed that made it quite difficult to get up for the excellent breakfast.
I think this might just be one of my favourites of all time...and that is saying something.

Dukes' Palace has been restored beautifully to provide an exceptionally comfortable experience away from home. It also manages to be very quiet whilst just 100 metres or so from a major shopping street in Bruges where the traffic, both pedestrial and motorised is heavy much of the time.

Staff are outstanding, all speaking three languages fluently, and always ready to engage with a greeting and a smile. Impressive, and particularly good in the Atelier bar.

I have to share other reviewers comments about hot/cold showers but otherwise this hotel gets pretty close to perfect. And we got a very good rate booking through Eurostar.

If your travel plans bring you to medieval Bruges, in western Belgium, you should consider staying at the Kempinski Duke's Palace, where you will receive a royal welcome. The exquisitely trained staff during our visit in July did their utmost to make us feel at home and pampered, from the welcome to our departure. The hotel does truly feel like a palace, with spacious and beautifully appointed guest rooms, to the dining and other common rooms, each wth unique appeal and charm. The hotel is located within an easy walk of the major attractions of the city, including the city plaza with its colorfully restored government buildings. We slept like royalty and ate like dukes and duchesses! You will enjoy your time at Kempinski Duke's Palace, no mat\ter how long!

The hotel is gorgeous, the staff lovely, the setting great. However, as per other reviews, my shower went from chilled to scalding hot with no warning - not acceptable for a hotel of this class. If they sort the plumbing this hotel will be hard to beat.

This is a lovely hotel, which has really differentiated itself with good service and luxurious ambience. Our room was clean and airy, with a contemporary feel, but cleverly including a regal feel in keeping with the hotel. The restaurant and bar costs are high, but the service is excellent and so the costs you could argue are justified. We took advantage of the "Happy Hour" and this represents excellent value - the Bruge Tripel beer and Kempinski Sekt were particularly good. There are very nice ornate gardens - a very serene place to sit and reflect. A lot of luxury hotels charge for internet, and this is no exception, but by joining the GHA luxury hotels alliance you can get complimentary internet. I found Bruges a bit too touristy for my tastes, with laminated menus at every restaurant, so it was very nice to come back to this haven each evening. We hired bikes and could park these outside the hotel. Thoroughly recommended for a weekend break.

Room Tip: They all looked nice

We stayed here for two nights having booked via Railbookers travelling by Eurostar from London and were delighted with our choice. The hotel is beautiful inside and out, in fact its so beautiful you'll see other tourists walking over to look at it and take pictures. Everything is of a very high standard. We had a superior double, which was modern, immaculately clean and with most comfortable bed & bed linen. The housekeeping staff were first class, there is a turn down service each evening, the rooms were cleaned and tidied probably to the best standard we have seen.

All the staff in the hotel are very professional, well trained, friendly and helpful. Christian on reception helped us locating points of interest on the map and made us feel very welcome and couldn't be more helpful.

Breakfast was first class with a fantastic selection of every breakfast item you could imagine, including a separate cooked egg selection menu, the eggs Florentine were superb.

We enjoyed the atmosphere in the bar area, we had pre dinner drinks both nights and enjoyed trying interesting and different spirits they have on offer i.e. we tried three different Vodkas with tonic water, again helpful bar staff, happy to guide and assist you with choice. The location of the hotel is very central so walking out for dinner was ideal for us.

We used the spa area too which was a great space to go and relax in, if you don't fancy swimming, sauna, treatments etc. there are lounger chairs around the pool where you can read etc. instead.

We 100% recommend this hotel, thank you to all the staff, you made our trip very special and although we may not return to Brugges (so many other places to visit!) we'd certainly like to stay in another Kempinski hotel somewhere else in the world.

Room Tip: Try and get a room over looking the garden.
