“Great place to stay in Bruges”
Reviewed 22 May 2014

We just got back from a trip that included 3 nights in Bruges. Duke's Palace is a great hotel. Nice room, great staff, and importantly: quiet. Our stay included Breakfast and the buffet was excellent. They also had great hunks of chocolate and you could cut off whatever you wanted!

I really liked Duke's Palace - I was lucky enough to stay in a Deluxe Junior Suite and really liked everything about the room, especially how spacious it was: I did a small dance when I saw the size off the bathroom. Staff were very friendly indeed, the location (5 minutes from the Market Square) is excellent, and the breakfast surpassed all possible expectations - the best I've had anywhere ever!

There seem to have been more than a few instances where guests who have booked with the sister hotel, Grand Hotel Casselbergh, get notifcation that they are being 'upgraded' to the Dukes' Palace due to some unforeseen circumstance at the Casselberg. This has happened on too many occasions for it to be a likley story..effectively guests are being 'bumped' to ensure rooms are taken at Dukes' Palace. It is very annoying to find that you think you are going to be staying in one hotel which you have specifically chosen only to find that you are not. And don't fall for the 'upgrade' trick either because you are not receiving anything extra...the Dukes' Palace don't offer complimentary wtaer or tea/coffee facilities in the rooms which is unheard of in any 5* star hotle I've stayed in. You cannot gurantee that if you book at the Casselbergh that you will actually be staying there and by giving you such short notice you are not in a position to arrange alternative accomodation because you would lose your deposit. i think it's a very underhand tactic used by the Dukes' Palace & seems to occur not uncommonly
The Dukes' Palace seems to have slipped since losing its Kempinski backing.
Breakfast is very good but the rooms are not adequately cleaned or serviced on a daily basis.

I travel to Bruges 2 to 3x a year and make it a point to try various properties. The dukes is the worst I've experienced yet. My room looked nothing like the historic pictures on their website. I was told there are only 2 rooms in the hotel that are still architecturally significant. The remainder look like a airport Hyatt. I had 3 rooms in 3 days just trying to get comfortable. The carpets were dirty in all if them with stains. The air conditioning didn't work in my last suite. The telephone didn't work in another room. The reception area is underwhelming as was the service. The garden is stunning but no one comes out to serve you. The health club was laughable. I'm stunned this is a 5 star property. I recommend the hotel casselberg if you want class and an amazing bar. Pand hotel Ralph Lauren suites are spectacular. Your guest room at the pand will actually be larger than the whole reception area of dukes.

I have just returned from a weekend in Bruges with my mum and sisters. The Dukes Palace is a lovely hotel but not 5*. There were no coffee making facilities in the room and the safe didn't work, even after we asked for it to be fixed it never happened. The swimming pool that is advertised in the leaflets on reception and in the room literature no longer exisits and the Spa itself lacked atmosphere. The room was not cleaned properly either - not what you would expect from a 5* hotel. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast we had on our last day was delicious. Bruges is delightful and I will definitely be going back, but next time will probably book a B&B.

Michelin 2014 shows Dukes Palace as best hotel in Brugge. Its spectacular, it is nice, it is well situated, but it lacks real class. Our first room (in the chapel) had a repetitive noise as from an elevator, but there is no elevator, and the personal was unable to explain the source. After insisting we were moved to another room (upgrade to suite, thanks), but we found out that the heating did not work and we spent a cold night and morning. After reclamation we had to move to the third room, which turned out to be all right. We also found that there is not sufficient attention to detail.Next time we will go back to the smaller boutique hotels.

I recently stayed 1night in this hotel. Definitely 5 star. The public rooms were beautiful. Big comfortable bed and a huge choice for breakfast. L'occitaine toiletries were a nice touch too. The reception staff were very friendly and I couldn't fault the place. First time in Belgium and very impressed.
