We chose the hotel Bero as it is voted the number 1 hotel in Ostend on Trip Advisor. As this was an almost last minute booking, we struggled to find any rooms available for this hotel online either direct with the hotel or through a search engine as we were looking for a room for 2 adults and a 15 year old. After emailing the hotel directly, we were pleasantly surprised to be offered a double executive room at Euro 180 per night with the offer of another bed being put into the room for an additional Euro 20 per night. The additional bed provided was comfortable and big enough for my 6ft son !
Reading the reviews it would appear that the Executive rooms are better than the other rooms available as we did not have a problem with the furniture, decor or noise from the room. ( We were in troom 204). The fridge was an added bonus. The only issue we had was the shower as the design meant it was very difficult not to completely flood the bathroom (which was very big). Me and my son both chose to have a bath which also had a shower attachment as it was alot easier !
We found the staff helpful and friendly and all spoke excellent English. The one small problem we had one morning with no hot water was dealt within minutes of us raising the issue
Breakfast was fine - Do not expect a full English - you are not in England, but on the Continent... Plenty of different types of bread and rolls along with cold meat, cheese, fruit and yoghurt.. There was also scrambled and boiled eggs and bacon - although the bacon was often cold - but nothing that would cause me to make a complaint.. we didnt expect to even see bacon available !
The pool was lovely - Would have liked to use the steam room but it did not open until 5pm whch was not a convenient time for us. However the main reason we did not use it was because it is also a nude area. Whilst not prudish we did not feel comfortable in sitting there naked and would have liked there to have been an area for us Brits that would have preferred to wear bathing costumes !
Hotel is in an excellent area. Lots of bars and restaurants practically on the doorstep. Our favourite restaurant was an Italian called Bajatzu. Kids are allowed into the majority of the bars. Less than 5 minutes walk to the beach and around 10 minute walk to the station. Brugges is 10 minutes away by train.
Although a little expensive one could say 'you get what you pay for'. Overall we would recommend this hotel and we would look to stay here again...
