My mum and dad have just returned from a four day stay at the New Astoria. My mum's biggest question...what is new about it?? They have stayed here before as it is a hotel used by National Holidays trips, however their most recent stay was their worst ever. They had booked a double room and were given two very narrow beds in a single room. This caused no end of problems trying to move around the room, my mum has returned home with very bruised legs. The bathroom, was tiny and after having to get help to find a light switch (the room was very dark) she preferred to turn it off again as the mould on the walls was terrible. Towels, although clean had holes in them. There was one window in the room but their room was positioned on a fire escape so could not open the curtains as people could see in. The noise at night from the fire escape was also terrible. After requesting a room change, they were told no as the hotel was full. A journey in the lift was also delightful, one lift kept breaking down and in the other you are able to touch the wall outside the lift as you move up and down. My advice would be to stay away from this hotel - the location is the only positive.
