Having just returned from a 4 night stay here, I've got to say the standard of the accommodation and our hosts Alain & Caroline is superb. A 2 minute walk to the very beautiful Ypres square where there are some lovely restaurants (albeit some quite expensive) and 'In Flanders Field' museum, 5 minute walk to The MENIN GATE, a must for everyone where the 'last post' is played at 8pm every night in remembrance of the commonwealth war dead.

We were on a WW1 tour so this was a must and this was our 4th visit to Ypres.

The accommodation was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and all towels, bed linen and shower gels/shampoos were provided.

The only down side is the courtyard cannot accommodate the 10 people at once as there is a large pond in the centre which takes up most of the space and is surrounded with Mosquitos, so use the 'mozzie' blinds for the rear bedroom windows.

A truly beautiful part of the world.

Returned today from a 5 day stay at Le Chat Noir in Iper town centre.

Our hosts (and the owners ) are Alan and Caroline....Alan did the welcome talk and showed us around the three storey town house. There were 9 in our group and we 'bagged' beds on all the floors (The very top bedroom/office being rather nice)

All bedding, towels and shower gels/soaps are provided by Alan. The showers and washing rooms are all well equipped and spotless.

Le Chat Noir is for people who want to self cater and the house has all you need for cooking, however, don't forget that Iper town square is rammed with excellent restaurants....Have a mooch around and some good priced food can be found. Caution though as some are rather expensive.

Back at Le Chat Noir there is a large courtyard at the back of the house where you can sit outside to chill and enjoy a beer or wine. There is a small BBQ but we didn't make use of that. Perhaps one suggestion to make that space more user friendly would be to remove the fishpond and make a brick built BBQ area and insert a large set of table and chairs to seat up to 10 guests. The house can hold up to ten to sleep, but the outdoor eating area cant cater for that many people. (Max 6)

That is just a small thing though as the house is ideal for Iper town centre and the Menin Gate. A slow amble takes you to the gate in 10 minutes. Don't worry about talking Flemish/Dutch/French or German here as all the shop staff are fluent in English, however, it is always nice to say Hello or Goodbye in the local language.

So this is a great house with great hosts in a great location. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a Iper base for that WW1 experience.

An excellent guest house, with everything you could possibly want. The attention to detail is great. It is centrally located and only a few minutes to walk to the centre of the town with its beautiful Clothe Hall and of course the Menen Gate, where the Last Post is played daily.
The guest house is very comfortable and quiet. I could have stayed there for longer than the weekend. We stayed there to see friends in the area but also to drive to the Belgium Grand Prix at Spa about 3hrs drive away.
I cannot praise the accommodation, the location and the area enough. The accommodation was very clean as well. Great I recommend you try this !!!!!!!! you will not be disappointed.
