Gaido's Seaside Inn
Ranked #24 of 52 Hotels in Galveston Island
Reviewed 7 August 2013 via mobile

Galveston, in general...if not just the entire state of Texas, is a complete and utter joke! There is nothing worthwhile happening there, no worthwhile people there to serve you food, services, or otherwise, and the entire place should serve as some sort of financial warning to the rest of the country. Spend your time and money on something...anything other than this waste.

We spent a couple of nights here this past May while scouting a beach location and making other arrangements for our June wedding. Reminds you of motels from the Route 66 era when vacations were extended road trips. Your basic 50's - 60's era motel which has no doubt been refurbished many times over the years. You get what you pay for, which is what most of us are looking for and expect. The pool was above average and there is an outside bar here now. We had no complaints and the price fits the accommodations, for a resort destination. Good value in Galveston.

Room Tip: Always choose non-smoking rooms even if you smoke. They are always cleaner, smell better, don't...

The location was perfect. It's located right at a light so all you do is cross the street and you are at the beach. Pool is wonderful. Kids loved it at night all lit up. We also ate at the pool, burgers were so delicious. Every day when we returned after sightseeing our rooms were cleaned. Rooms are nothing to brag about, but they are clean and unless you plan on spending a lot of time in your room you really don't need a fancy place. I would stay there again.

This was our second stay here. Last yr breakfast and price were good but cleanliness left a little to be desired. Its an old hotel right on the beach so we knew couldn't expect white glove treatment. Gave it another try this yr. Rooms were cleaner but service & breakfast not so great. One day couldn't eat because they don't start serving until 7 & fishing reservations required us to be at the boat at that time. Next day only food to be had were premade breakfast burritos & waffles without syrup. When we asked about syrup we were told by staff to eat them with grape jelly. Really? Several people complained to front desk staff who were later overheard to make the comment "I don't care what they say - we offer a good breakfast. " third days offering was cereal & leftover burritos. At checkout we were charged an additional $10 even though we had prepaid with cash during check-in. Front desk staff couldn't give us a good reason for the charge. Finally got tired of the hassle, paid the $ & left. We wont be back. Nick's restaurant next door & location are great but not worth the headache of staying here.

We recently stayed at Gaido's specifically because we liked the pool/bar combo. The pool was definitely nice and big, with a big jacuzzi next to it. Thank goodness, otherwise our stayed would have completely been miserable. The staff (front desk, and breakfast) was really rude and did not go out of their way to help at all. Especially the breakfast staff. They complained that "everyone is coming at 9:40am when it ends at 10am", very loudly in front of at least 20 hotel patrons waiting for the very basic free breakfast. The bartender was also rude and couldn't be bothered to take our orders, instead choosing to chat with her "regulars". The rooms were very basic Motel rooms. We also were not allowed to check in at the check in time stated on the website. Instead, they gave us a time range of 3pm-6pm, stating that the room was not cleaned yet.

For the past 5 years when I visit the Houston area I come to Galveston and always stay at the Gaidos Seaside Inn. This past weekend I came to visit and was impressed with the pool/bar area. Indeed during the evening it was more of an adult atmosphere so why have your kids staying up that late?????? The manager and staff gave me good customer service and I will continue to stay at the Gaido's Seaside Inn when I come to Galveston. Can't wait to come back soon!!!

Thanks for the service folks

Room Tip: Get the beachside rooms.

Everything about Gaido's Seaside Inn that I said before still stands... cheap, excellent service, great location, great breakfast, etc. But... something has happened here that has become a game changer for us.

Gaido's Seaside Inn has put in a bar next to the pool. I have no problem with bars per se... I even like to go to bars occasionally. And last year when we were at Gaido's we would take a cold beer or two down to the pool and swim with the grandkidlet, relax and just have a great time. Other people would have alcohol there but there was always a family atmosphere. However, with the addition of the bar there are patrons in the pool that do not stay at the hotel. There are bar patrons mixing with families with children - NOT a good mix. Let me site a few examples:
-a couple making out in the pool - French kissing, rubbing her breasts against his face, etc.
-On Friday and Saturday nights there is a band/dj going very loudly until 11:00/midnight
-bar patrons yelling at the kids because the kids were doing cannon balls in the pool and splashing water on their coolness and in their drinks
-a couple at the bar sent their little boy to the children's section and told him not to leave it until they came for him while they went back to the bar

Its as though Gaido's can't decide what they want to be - a family establishment or a bar. When I talked with the person on duty Saturday night she said they were just trying to attract more customers. I told her I was pretty sure we wouldn't be back next year.

Also the rules have changed. Hotel guests may not bring alcohol to the pool. You must buy any alcohol from the new bar.

Parking is a problem as much of the hotel parking is taken up by bar patrons.

I LOVED Gaido's. We were pretty sure we'd found our home away from home in Galveston from now on. 'Very disappointed in this new development. I feel like families who's stayed here and future patrons needs to know about this change.
