“beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 October 2013

a wonderful hotel where we stayed for 3 nights, located in the best possible location in Mani, very good restaurant and bar, a beautiful place to stay and relax. The pool is a bit small but with the seaside it is not necessary to even consider the pool.

The good news: the hotel and the setting are amazing. End of good news. Our family weekend at Kyrimai was a much anticipated and carefully planned family adventure. We had booked a family room with a garden view (more on that later) in early August and it was with great excitement that we set off for Kyrimai last Friday as so many friends had praised the quality of services, amazing location and hotel decor, glorious food and so on. The first thing that struck me as odd upon our arrival is that no one offered to help with our luggage. Behind the front desk which is actually a very stylish antique mahogany table was the guy who, as I understood later, runs the hotel talking on the phone. I stood in front of him for about five minutes before he actually acknowledged my presence with a slight sigh and an "unfortunately I have to hang up now" comment to the other end of the line. For one thing, if you are an obnoxious sort of fellow, DO NOT RUN A HOTEL. EVER. Meanwhile, the rest of my family were in the parking area unloading the car. On their own. We were then handed the key to a room that another reviewer here has characterized as resembling a prison cell but nicely decorated and oh my, he is right. Very dark with two minuscule windows overlooking a small patio (the owner's idea of a garden) it was impossible to stay there without bumping on one another and without having the lights on all day long. This is how dark it was. Even my small children aged ten and thirteen complained that they could not stay there, so I returned to the front desk and to Mr. Very Important Hotelier to ask for an upgrade. "this is impossible" he said "we gave you what you paid for. A room with a garden view". When I explained that the general idea of a garden entails at least one green and one sunny spot or some flowers, his response was that he was very sorry but he could not accommodate us somewhere better and we were welcome to leave if we didn't like our room. I think of myself as a well travelled person and nowhere so far have I encountered such an arrogant behavior from a person who claims to be running one of the most exclusive and niche hotels in Greece. What is truly disheartening is that the hotel as such is really cute, located on the edge of a very picturesque fishing village at the end of Peloponese and it deserves so much better than the people who manage it. We left, of course and spent the rest of the day looking for other dwellings which was a very difficult task given the place and time of year (end of October) but this is another sad story I ll save for another review involving worms, bugs and other deadly insects. My advice to any fellow travellers is go to Kyrimai as it is really nice, but first make sure that you and Mr. VIH have the same understanding of the definition of a garden. And make sure that you like obnoxious people

Dear sir/madam,

Thank you very much for your time to write your comments regarding our hotel.
Please bare in mind that all comments, positive or negative, will be considered very carefully .
We understand that your family classic courtyard view room ( not garden view ) was not what you expected.
Being a historic listed building . Kyrimai hotel, had to follow special rod and regulations regarding its architectural nature.
Small windows and truly not so bright rooms is typical for a Mani house.
In total we have around 10 rooms out of 22 that share the same characteristics.
Staying in a historic building rooms tend to be quite different compared to a classic hotel.
We sincerely hope to make the effort to visit our hotel soon and be able to spend a few days with us.
We are certain that only staying with us will make you really feel the atmosphere and high level of service and hospitality we offer to our guests.
It is for our guests that Kyrimai is up to know and almost 10 years after his first opening considered as one of the best hotels of its kind in Greece.
Thanks again for your time and comments.
Kind regards,

Kyrimai hotel

We really enjoyed our stay at Kyrimai.
The strong points for us were: have a lovely-decorated room, with a great view, 10 steps from the water, and have dinner at their great gourmet restaurant.
Weaker points: my husband found the bed really uncomfortable.
I am aware that this place may not be for everyone.
Be ready to be quite isolated and to have really no other place to go outside the hotel. Gerolimenas has only a couple of average tavernas and one tiny tiny grocery store.

Truly a lovely hotel, small and perfectly formed. I had a very nice room, overlooking the pool and with fantastic sea views. Breakfast was excellent, as wa lunch and Dinner, and the staff were very hekpful and engendered such a relaxing atmosphere. It is in a stunning location, my room was perhaps 30 meters from the sea, at the end of a beautiful harbour and they even floodlit the cliff opposite the hotel at night. It's a 4 hour drive from Athens, 2 hours from Kalamata - but well, well worth it. Probably one of the niceset hotels I have ever stayed at.

Room Tip: Go for room 309 - it has its own terrace and with the door open you can see the sea whilst you are l...

perfect location but a 4 hour drive from athens though well worth it.
do not be tempted by the cheaper smaller rooms, they are nice but very compact you can just about walk around the bed and there is enough room to turn around in the bathroom but that is it
go for a larger suite. pool area is very nice but also very compact but there is also a jetty into the sea with sun beds which is excelent.
Very good breakfast but evening menu was limited though we were there end of sept towards the end of the season but what was on offer was very good
Many good tavernas only 200yds away
Service was good but staff a little distant at times
And there is a dog is residence that has the run of the house a bit annoying at times

Room Tip: do not book a standard room, too small

we stayed in this wonderful hotel for two nights in september 2013. the hotel is perfecly located on the beach' has its own beach and pool' the rooms are well designed and comfortable, breakfast was very good and the staff very nice, helpful and english speakers. the only thing that we didnt like was the dinner that was overpriced, and not to our liking (on the second day we had dinner at the village which was simpler and very good. the highlight of course is the beach- we could stay there for ever.

Arrived late noon, and there was only a regular room available which was rather small and uncomfortable. If i was 10 years older, it would have been impossible to climb up the internal ladder to get to bed. The window was a bit difficult to reach, and the view from my room was part of the perking area. However the price was not to neglect. Well the whole building is very old, and as a whole, is amazing. From the small pool you can attend the open sea and rest your eyes. It is so relaxing. Dinner was absolutely great, and when check came we kept drinking our wine by the sea happily. On the other hand, its famous breakfast (I still can't believe that they asked us to book a table and be punctual) was a disappointment. Apart the classic two pieces of cake and tost with butter and jam, two slices of cheese and ham and a piece of fat village sausage over an overcooked slice of bread.
It is a very relaxing place to be. Just choose the front suite, and lower your expectations for breakfast.

Room Tip: The front suite is the very best.
