“Relaxing and picturesque, perfect place to ‘create your own adventure.’”
Reviewed 14 April 2018 for a stay in March 2018

The property looks exactly as advertised - gorgeous, a little quirky, and refreshingly wild, perfect for travelers who are looking for (possible) adventure with a laid-back vibe. Short walk to the beach - but ask Hepburn how to get there first, otherwise it can be a little confusing to distinguish the “fishing beach” from the “swimming beach.” Also a short walk into town, although walking on the road is not for the faint of heart (cars go fast and there’s no shoulder), so some may prefer to take a taxi.

A few tips based on our visit: make sure you’re aware of holidays that may be taking place, as this will definitely affect what is open and available (we were there over Easter, and didn’t realize how many places in town would be closed for Good Friday and Easter Monday, as well for Easter Sunday itself.) On a related note, if (like us), you don’t rent a car and find yourself without cell service, making plans can be difficult and frustrating without some help. Try to get as much info as possible
(including the number of a reliable taxi service) when you first arrive (or from Jim before you get there), and ask about access to a landline, so you don’t find yourself stranded if Hepburn (“Oney”) has to step out. Navalee is also an extremely helpful resource, and was a real life saver when we wanted to find a place to go for a nice dinner on Easter Monday. We also enjoyed our time with the driver Jim arranged to take us to and from the airport - both trips were very pleasant, and he also taught us a lot about the local scenery. I highly recommend him.

Overall, an incredible and very “authentic” experience at a great price. As stated, the pool is AMAZING after a walk back up the hill, and is meticulously maintained by Hepburn. And Even though Jim was not there during our visit, he emailed constantly to check on us, and responded right away to any questions or issues we had. Also, the view is just as incredible as it looks in the pictures...

Lee Ann was a wonderful guest and a good communicator from start to finish. This is so important when visiting another country or an unfamiliar part of a country you've visited before. She asked all the right questions and I would highly recommend her to other hosts. JP for Jim's Place.

“Great pool and view”
Reviewed 6 February 2017 for a stay in January 2017

Very good value ,quirky, architect designed, property on a semi-developed, high end ,housing scheme.
The pictures are exactly how it is : exclusive, clean pool; chilling hammock gazebo; terrific sea view; quirky shower room with hot water; sunny balcony ; good mattress with fans and mosquito net.
Quiet south coast location, warmer than the north coast with less rain (hence less greenery). Nice little public beach. Twenty minute walk ( longer coming back up hill )gets you into Whitehouse with a take away, Digicel SIM card shop, bank ( with a better exchange rate than Mobay airport),supermarkets, and bars (of the 4 seat variety).
Gateman Oney Hepburn Miller comes up in the morning to clean the pool and remove your trash. He can act as your guide in the locality and is happy to do so.
Nice sea front restaurant at the bottom of the hill ( Blue Water) - reasonable food at reasonable cost (spicy pumpkin and yam soup).
Regular, cheap reggae buses on the main road during the day - you'll have to charter after dark.
Travelled as a couple and would recommend to couples.
Tip 1 : Ask to borrow Jim's wind up Grundig radio.
Tip 2 : Don't forget to take your passport to change money and to get your SIM card.
Tip 3 : Travel between large towns on the Knutsford Express. Internet booked.
Liked most: Your own pool area on a hot afternoon - a steal for £300 per week in Jamaica.
Liked least: A few monster trucks running back and forth down on the main road.

“Great place to relax !”

After a week of luxury in an all-inclusive resort in MO Bay, Jim’s place was a very welcome change of pace.
Jim’s Place is situated on the hill, with a view of the water. The sunsets from the upper balcony were spectacular.
Oney, the “gate Keeper” was extremely helpful and catered to all our needs and was very informative about possible day trips from the yard.
The location is close to the markets and stores in WhiteHouse. We had rented a car for the week we stayed at Jim’s Place. If you can handle the madness on the roads, that is the way to go.
From Jim’s place it is very easy to make daytrips to YS Falls, Appleton Resort, Black River and Treasure Beach or to just visit with the local population. Beach is about 10 min. walk away.
The house has a beautiful pool, kept very clean by Oney. The amenities are very modest but totally adequate. The design of the house is very unique, and refreshingly different from many rental units.
Although a fan had been installed above the bed, the heat at night was intense so was the volume of the chorus of local dogs, and other critters. The house could do with a few more fans, to improve the air movement.
Kitchen in the unit was small but adequate, although one flat frying pan or grill would have made the breakfast prep a lot easier 
We were not told, nor were we aware that we could have used the kitchen area adjacent to the pool. I just read here that it would have been an option.
It was very pleasant as well that the owner of the property is just one email away to answer questions.
Wi-Fi connection is good and reliable.
If simplicity and seclusion is your thing, Jim’s Place would be great for you.

Wonderful guests who did take advantage of our south coast location. The previous guests employed our excellent chef who must have borrowed the apartment's non-stick frying pan for use in the main kitchen upstairs to prepare one of her extra-special meals. I assume it was not returned to its proper place. Oops & sorry [note taken]. Thank you.

This was our second stay at Jim's Place. Not only has the villa improved in way of amenities and comfort, we were delighted to visit during a time where the trees on the yard were offering us a multitude of delicious local fruit on a daily basis! The caretaker made sure all of our needs were met and we got to enjoy a few evenings in his company cooking local dishes and listening to music. As per usual, walking around the town, we felt welcomed by the locals and got to discover the fish market, the local bars and the friendly people. Be it for a relaxing private get away or an activity-filled vacation, Jim's Place is THE place to feel relaxed, safe and comfortable. Can't wait til our next visit! :)

We do encourage all of our guests to explore the local community and these folks took full advantage of that. We are "off the beaten tourist track" and this shows in the friendly reception our guests receive from "the locals". Apart from this feature, we are quite central for "day trips" to some of the hot spots along the south coast and have stand-by drivers who know the area well from Negril to Treasure Beach. Welcome back!

I picked this place because of the artistry. Because I love to feel at home wherever I travel, I dislike boring architecture and decor, and need to stay in a place that feels beautiful and loved. Jim's Place did not disappoint, and in fact was our favorite accommodation in Jamaica. Warm tiles, elegant design, calm colors, and just enough touches of detail and artistry to make it feel really unique and special. Jim is a friendly and helpful character, and Hepburn, the caretaker is kind and sweet, he roasted our bread fruit on a fire for us, as we didn't know how to cook it. The bugs were free to come and go with the open air design, but they didn't really bother us. I was expecting masses of mosquitoes, but that was not the case. It is not a luxury place, but if you love beauty and nature you will love it here. Hot water for showers was fantastic.

This guest and her 2 travelling partners were wonderful to host. I wished they had more time on their journey to spend with us, but they needed to explore the island in a short time. They did pack a lot into the 2 days and we arranged a special boat tour up the Black River AFTER they normally closed up. The addition of the ceiling fan [suggested by an earlier guest] gave them "the best sleep on the island so far." It can only get better as we learn the art of hosting in paradise. I would welcome them back!

“Fantastic view”

Jim and Oney have created a wonderful rental space that offers a tremendous view of the sea, and privacy beyond compare. The garden apartment which we rented was comfortable but as we've mentioned to Jim, could use some small amenities, such as an overhead fan above the bed, and hooks for hanging clothes and other items. The apartment offers a small but adequate kitchen, and access to a second kitchen on the first floor adjacent to the pool. The grounds were well kept and since the top floor apartment was not occupied, access to the upper balcony was a real treat. The view from the top floor is incomparable and breathtaking. If you enjoy privacy this is your place. Oney was very helpful and always available to run errands or do some shopping in Whitehouse. For those that require hotel type comfort, this may not be to your liking, but for the seasoned traveler this property is very dear.

If you do consider this property, be sure to bring bug repellent as the no-seeums and mosquitoes can be a challenge. We made numerous walks into Whitehouse and up the beach toward the Sandals resorts. We enjoyed these adventures, more so because the locals are very friendly without the typical sales pitches that are more common in areas such as Negril where we have vacationed in the past. Access to local taxis to places like Black River, YS Falls, and other points of interest are very affordable and easily acquired in Whitehouse. Oney can also arrange for a private driver if one desires.

This is a wonderful get away and as mentioned an incredibly private and romantic spot.
