“Fantastic house in a stunning rural setting, the perfect family gettaway.”

I can not reccomend this house highly enough. We were a family of 12 from age 10-70. We had intended to spend most of the week exploring the surrounding areas as the house is well placed to visit different parts of Dordogne/Charente area. However the weather was so beautiful and hot, but mostly the house was so captivating that none of us ever wanted to be away for too long. Rob has enusred there is plenty to keep guests of all ages amused/entertained whatever the weather. The lovely pool, bikes, trampoline, pool table, darts, croquet, boad games etc..
I for one can not wait to go back, chilled out by the pool, glass of wine in hand watching the sun set behind the hills revealing the starriest sky any of us had ever seen. Will always be remembered, as my youngest nephew quite rightly said 'it's our best holiday ever!'

“5 Months of Bliss”

We had the pleasure of staying at La Coutancie for 5 months and it was magical! We had such a fantastic time I cried when I left. House is spacious ,well decorated and presented, anything you need you have there. Sunset from the living room window in the evening is really special.
Rob is fabulous, nothing and I mean nothing is too much trouble, any problem , any info you need is just a phone call or a text away. You helped me greatly when my dog was sick and I am forever grateful to you!!!

I highly recommend La Countancie, I'd go back in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!

“Perfect French Getaway with all you could want and more!”
Reviewed 6 March 2015 for a stay in September 2014

This was my second visit and once again, the house did not disappoint and everything from my original review (5 reviews down) still stands.

As well as being spacious and large, the house is also really comfortable, so we do feel very ‘at home’ here; with 3 big comfy sofas and every bedroom beautifully decorated with sumptuous bedding, mattresses and décor, nice bathrooms and showers. The 2 kitchens are very well stocked with equipment. (You could actually bake a cake if you wanted to!) I also disagree with the reviewer (2 reviews down) regarding the kitchen upstairs - it is a French country style which is just different to the rest of the house, which is more contemporary but it’s spotlessly clean, as is the rest of the house. I'm also aware from the owner, that he has plans to modernise and extend the kitchen very soon.

We had a very relaxing holiday. The weather was fantastic – glorious sunshine every day in early September. Being in the countryside means that at night there’s no light pollution – the sky was completely clear and dark enough that you could see the Milky Way which is real treat if, like us, you live in a town.

Although there are lots of places to visit and things to do in the area, we were enjoying ‘living’ there so much that we only went out once. We visited the river beach at Aubeterre Sur Dronne and also the pretty town itself which has some nice jewellery & pottery shops, bakers, butcher and a good selection of restaurants and cafes around a square.

I would recommend this house to anyone wanting a relaxing base in the French countryside, from which to explore all that the Dordogne has to offer, with all the comforts of home and can’t honestly think of anything that was missing.

“A holiday that will long remembered for the very best of reasons”
Reviewed 15 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

La Coutancie is a grand holiday house for large groups. Our three sons and their wives/ partners have been holidaying with us, and our ever increasing number of grandchildren for the past 15 years. My wife and I have rented both in the UK and Europe and La Coutancie is the best venue by far. Incidentally, compared to similarly sized homes in the UK it was the cheapest.

The house was clean, well furnished, equipped and decorated; and the well kept gardens and play equipment proved very popular with the 9 children. Two of the younger ones leaned to ride two-wheeled bikes for the first time on the gently smoking lawns. The swimming pool more than compensated for the distance from the coast.

Robert, one of the owners, rang to check if everything was ok; a great personal touch we have never previously experienced.

Mary and I always try to achieve a holiday that will be remembered and talked about years in the future. La Coutancie will be talked of to our great grand children.

“Memorable Family Holiday”
Reviewed 1 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We have recently returned from a week at La Coutancie, we booked last in August 2013 so it was a long wait! Robert (the owner) was an excellent agent, answering my endless questions quickly and efficiently - thank you!

There is lots of information at the house in folders, but we also did a lot of our own research for restaurants, river beaches, places to visit etc. We visited a lovely restaurant called L'ecole which was only about 5km away, we wanted to go to La Valette but it was always fully booked so make sure you book in advance. Aubeterre is lovely with some nice restaurants and shops as is Brantome, but both are a fair distance drive.

Whilst we knew it was in rural france, It really is rural!! 'in the middle of nowhere' is how my Husband programmed the address into the Sat Nav! Make sure you have all the basics before you arrive as it is quite a drive for milk etc. Luckily we came fully laden and only visited the supermarket (Super U) twice.

Unfortunately for us the weather was not kind during our week and although we did have some sun it was mostly cloudy and bit cold, however, we managed a couple of very chilly splashes in the pool and made full use of the games room, pool table, ping pong, dartboard and board games that were on offer. The library of books was fantastic, to be honest I was quite happy to sit on the sofa and read all week!

There was 14 in our party ranging from 7 - 60, the accommodation layout was really good ensuring plenty of space for us all to have 'our own space'. It is laid out over 3 floors, a bedroom and bathroom in the basement along with a kitchen, games room and TV lounge, the 2nd floor has the main kitchen, living room, large terrace overlooking the pool (the views are fantastic), 2 further double bedrooms a bathroom and toilet. Upstairs has 5 more bedrooms and two shower rooms with WC's. There is loads of parking and gardens and it felt very safe and secure. The pool is also alarmed so for young children that is a real plus. There really is something for everyone here and it really is helpful having pool towels.

The decor and furniture in the bedrooms and lounge is really lovely and the rooms were a really good size, the bathrooms were also a good size, however, we did feel a little stretched at times with 14 people and only 4 showers and toilets.

Compared to the rest of the house and rooms which are spacious, well decorated and furnished to a high standard, the main kitchen is quite small and does require some updating. It has no preparation/work spaces and we had to turn the table round in there and use this for preparing our meals. Although you do have the downstairs kitchen, it is quite dangerous coming up and downstairs with hot dishes.

All in all we did have a lovely time, it was wonderful to catch up with my family and chill out for a week. As stated earlier, Robert was excellent with communication and dealt positively and swiftly with any problems we had. Our security deposit was refunded in full within a couple of weeks.

I would recommend the house as a lovely 'get away from it all' holiday.

“Lovely, comfortable house with plenty for all ages”

We stayed as a group of 12, with ages ranging from 1 to 89. We all had plenty of space. There was lots to do to suit all tastes. In particular the little playground area for young children saw a lot of use, but there was so much else to enjoy from pool table to jigsaw puzzles and from guides to the local sights and amenities to bikes to use on bike rides. Everything was in immaculate condition and we had a very good time.
