Owner description: The walls and pillars of the chapel, built in the century. XVII, are lined with thousands of human bones and skulls. Ceilings with murals realtivas death. Written on a plaque next to the door, the phrase "We bones that are here for your hope", reminds us how fleeting passage through life

I can imagine a very creative monk with lots of time (and bones) on his hands.
The idea of having your earthly remains in a chapel or in the yard of a church is not new, but in a creative display? That is unique!!
Very much worth the trip to See something that also makes you reflect on what is left after so many worries and desires, at least these were recycled on to an artistic form.

There are a couple of ossuaries in Romania but I had not seen anything like this. I was a bit surprised to see many families with children in the chapel since it is not exactly a child friendly attraction. The cathedral is free to visit. The 4 euro ticket included, apart from the chapel, the museum and a collection of nativity scenes (the birth of Jesus Christ) from all over the world, which was very interesting. I am not sure if it was a temporary or permanent exhibition.

But interesting for those who like this sort of place, like the roman catacombs and the franciscan church in Rome on the via Veneto

It will probably sound strange to say that this is not the first bone chapel that my husband and I have visited, though it is by far the most artfully designed, and well worth experiencing. Viewing human skeletons inevitably leads to ruminations on mortality in addition to a macabre thrill. You can't help wondering who these people were and how they lived their lives and ended up in this place. We're quite fascinated by the many different funeral practices among the world's various cultures and the way that human remains are handled or otherwise displayed after death, so this was a must see for us.

Cults are always strange to analyze, but chapels of bones are somewhat common in southern Europe. This one is less creepy than most nainly because it recently underwent a comprehensize reconstruction and reconditioning, and it's now quite pleasant.
