Loved this hotel within the old wall. Reception was warm and welcoming. Bar and counter service very pleasant. Overall staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the old charm added to the rooms, the distressed look of the wood, the decor etc. We had a large deck overlooking the beautiful grounds, pool and the remains of the roman wall. The lounge furniture around the pool and deck were very comfortable. The decor inside the lobby and hallways kept with the original site which was a farm. Breakfast buffet was basic and acceptable. Five minute walk to the main square of Evora. Would strongly recommend this hotel with its old charm.

And that restaurant, name unrecorded and not affiliated with the hotel deserves *****for service, preparation, presentation, selection, taste, and value! The Hotel M'ar De AR Muralhas was fine. 5-stars for reception. 4 for public rooms, restaurant, pool, and 3-4 for room. Quiet but walkable to main plaza. Breakfast was good, not exceptional; service then was all but non-existent.

Room Tip: Try the Sushi/Asian Grill All-You-Can-Eat restaurant next door!

Didn't spend a lot of time looking around as I was on a business trip.

The accommodation just seemed a little tired. The shower was difficult to adjust and felt like it may fall apart at any time. The decor was slightly dated. On the plus side the location is excellent and the poolside looked very nice (if I had had more time I would have made use of it).

The staff were pleasant and spoke reasonable English.

I only used the restaurant at breakfast and arrived at breakfast reasonably early (so no problem with what was available). However the main restaurant only had large (8 seater) tables so you are forced to share with the large numbers of people on coach tours. You could sit outside in the atrium if you wanted a smaller table but this doubles up as the smoking area.

Easy to find, just inside the city walls with all the city sights, bars and restaurants just a short stroll away. Great reception and very helpful, friendly staff. We'd booked a double room but were upgraded to a suite with huge balcony and great view ... absolutely stunning. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, bar and pool area comfortable and breakfast good. Car parking in garage under hotel. Plenty to see in Evora as well as other sights and areas of interest to visit within an hours drive of Evora. Highly recommended ... we had a great stay, in a wonderful part of Portugal.

This hotel was not offensive. Beyond that, I don't really have much to say about it. I called in advance and requested that we be given rooms that did not have two twin beds pushed together, but rather a double bed. We were not accommodated. The hotel is okay, it has open corridors. There were aspects of it that really made me think it wasn't a four-star hotel, e.g. they had soda machines in the hallways, and things. That is the type of thing I normally associate with a lower-class hotel . The restaurant service was middling. The food was fine. I think you can rent bikes right at the hotel, which is a nice perk.

The rooms are dated, but clean. The mattresses were uncomfortably squishy. The bedding was also clean, but kind of old-school. White sheets and one of those fleecy coverlet things. The a/c worked fine and the bathroom was clean. We had a view of the city of Evora, which was nice.

The breakfast buffet was fine, though they have a sign in the elevator (see posted photos) suggesting that if you arrive early, you will get the most choices. Read: "we are too cheap to replenish the breakfast buffet, so wake up at six thirty a.m. and get the good stuff." Not exactly the way a four-star hotel treats guests, wouldn't you say?

In any event, I would describe this place as inoffensive, but a letdown. If I could do it again I would stay elsewhere in Evora.
