Really nice hotel, in historic and beutifull convent. The location is also great.
I stayed in one of the convent rooms...a bit small.
Service is also very good.

We stayed at the Convento for 6 days. The service will blow you away. The staff are impeccable in their standards of service and friendliness. The spa treatments were heavenly. You must ask for Slaysia - she is brilliant. Now on to the hotel itself. Our room had a balcony that overlooked fields with horses grazing. You have a pillow menu offered as well! Although the hotel is just outside Evora itself if you want peace, relaxation and recuperation you will find all of these here. The hotel is furnished to the highest standards. You are provided with a spa robe and slippers in your room and offered the local tipple when booking in - It is minty and I dubbed it Monk's Champagne as it a locally made product. The hotel has 3 bicycles which you can take out. We cycled out of the hotel and followed the road to the right and entered what can only be described as an idyllic heaven. We took a right turn at the junction which eventually became a dirt path leading through cork trees and old stone ruins as cattle with their bells clanging grazed amidst the undulating hills. It really was magic. You can do a circular route which we found but it meant handing one another our bikes over a stream which was rather hysterical. There are many beautiful walks at hand and the tourist information office in Evora have leaflets.

I have a few criticisms of the Convento: one is that the room where you have breakfast(which, however, is excellent) is rather dark and needs to be brightened up for daytime use and I found the room cold. We had dinner on 3 evenings. The seabass is fanastic as is the baked spiced banana. The soup was tasteless with the texture of babyfood. We had lunch one sunny afternoon sitting in what was the cloisters area - the tranquility and peace of that afternoon really struck us both. A second criticism is that the television although cable has few English speaking broadcasts and the news channel is business.
Overall this hotel is a real gem. We have stayed all over the world and have never found a hotel that matches the standards found at the Convento. It really is that great - but of course with greatness comes cost and it is not cheap however I can say without reserve it is absolutely worth it.

The Hotel is just beautiful! Really an amazing place where we can experience luxury and personal service with a smile.
The rooms are perfect and the bed is heaven. All the amenities are of the best quality and there are plenty of them available. The Spa deserves a long visit because is also very good and so beautiful, with a very nice indoor pool, jakuzzi, sauna and tepidarium. You also have lots of massages available. The hotel is located on a very calm and quiet place, so you can enjoy the peace and the silence with Evora at just about 3km. No doubt one of the best hotels in Portugal.

How do we start here...

Arriving at Evora, we didn't know exactly what to expect. We hired a car from the airport and drove through the rough landscape of Portugal. Our GPS lead us directly to our location.

Our first impression when seeing the hotel was ... interesting. A beautiful whit convent, restored in all its glory.
Parking the car, unpacking the luggage and arriving at the front desk. First impression, good service. Everything well explained in a professional way. We were lead through are room where we first passed some beautiful corridors.

The convent is divided in a more modern wing and a preserved and restored authentic part. The last was were we stayed in. The rooms are great. Spacious, huge bed, flat screen tv, very nice bathroom, good storage, balcony overlooking the courtyard, clean and well maintained... great.

when exploring the hotel we clearly looked at the details of the restoration. Everything is very nice done, although they were some parts that could have been done better. But in general a warm cosy feeling. The loungy area is a beautiful place just to hang out in. It is a great feeling seeing how a convent can be turned into a hotel while keeping all it charm and respect. Nothing is over done here, like some American chains that would put there stamp on.

It doesn’t stop here. The modern part of the hotel is also a great place to stay in. The swimming pool is not big, but perfect for having a dip. You have more this private feeling that a big chain hotel. A homey feeling sort of speak. Although there is not a separate children pool where they are obliged to get in. We were in a pretty quiet month, September, but we can imagine that in a busy period you could not appreciate all the children in it.
The cocktails offered at the pool are to die for. Especially the pure fruit cocktails. Perfect on a hot sunny day. You can also have lunch at the patio (swimming pool bar), where you can have a variety of interesting dishes. The prices were rather high, since there was never a buffet at fair prices.
The service, here again, is flawless. Staff always smiling, asking you if you need something, constantly checking if there something to clean up, or changing the linen. It's those little details that makes a staff move up to perfection.

We have been in quite 5-star hotels, and we've never seen such a perfect organised staff. Rooms are cleaned 2 times a day, and we are not saying that only the beds are made. They clean it for sure and put all your stuff back onto place.

There is a inside pool and fitness room. Great for the evening or if you want to refuge on your own. There are spa facilities, etc.

Breakfast and dinner. Arriving in the morning at breakfast, you can choose for inside or outside. Inside the room is filled with a huge table with lots to choose from. Cereals, fresh fruit, 3 types of fresh drinks (oranges, pineapple or peach), different types of bread, different types of jams, meat, cheeses, etc. Everything is fresh every day. What a delight. If you want you can have scrambled eggs, etc.. Everything you want is just done, without any extra charge. Do you want a cappuccino or a café late, no problem. They will be gladly to make you one and bring it at your table with a smile.

We had a couple of dinners in the hotel. Although we are not fond of doing this, since we want to experience the real local food. The food is from a good standard. The chef thinks high from himself and has to be careful not to overdue with the menu. You could classify the restaurant as being good. Don't expect molecular cuisine, although the deserts were from a very high standard. Meaning that you can eat there everyday if you would like to, but it's not our every day thing. Back at home you don't go to the restaurant every day neither, right... Prices are pretty high, we must admit. Service here again, is flawless. We and other guest had several good contacts with the Sommelier and we were all invited into the cellars of the convent for a wine tasting. Since September is rather a quiet month, the hotel tries to organize different evenings to entertain it's guest. I thought very much appreciated.
Portuguese wines are remarkable good, and the young sommelier is and was very enthusiastic about the local wines.

Evora itself. Well, to be honest, nothing much to do there. it's a quiet city with its own charms. But one or two days are more then enough to have seen it all. Restaurants in Evora. There are not many worth eating at, but there is one which really stand out, and that's Fialho. Here you can eat really great local cuisine for fair prices.

To sum everything up. If you want to have a real chill out holiday and a flawless service in Portugal, then this is the place to be. We went after our 8th day to Lisbon (in another 5-star hotel), we were shocked (and that in a negative way). This hotel truly comes out to have the best staff I have ever seen.
Don't expect animations like you would have in big chains. This hotel is made for people who want to escape from everything and everyone and just enjoy quietness, good food and some pampering.

This hotel is so wonderful I hardly know where to begin. We stayed only one night during an 8-day tour of central Portugal. I would return to Evora just so I could stay here again. The hotel is gorgeous, clean, the rooms large and comfortable. The front desk staff was the most friendly accomodating service I think I have ever experienced anywhere. Special thanks to Patrick at the front desk, who took care of every request with a smile and enthusiasm. He even personally drove us to one of his favorite local restaurants in the town, one we never would have found by ourselves, where we enjoyed the best (and probably the cheapest) meal of the entire trip. Strictly locals, and great food, service and wine.

Although the hotel was a little tricky to find (Portugal's signage is not the best) and it is located a few miles outside of the old city, the hotel provides a free shuttle available on demand (until 11:30 p.m. I believe). We had breakfast outside under one of the porticos in the cloister (included with the price, which at 234 euros we did not find outrageous considering the quality of the place.) Breakfast was buffet and delicious. Service was impeccable.

Staying at this hotel was like residing in a fine piece of art. The architecture, the sculpture and paintings, the chapel, the wine cellar (where there was a free wine tasting of local vineyards), the grounds, everything about the hotel screamed quality and beauty. If you have to skimp on your hotels elsewhere just so you can stay here, do it.
