Susana and Alberto looked after us really well. We had read the reviews and purchased some food in Apponches on the way, because the cottage is quite secluded. Susana was lovely and had left us some bread,jams, orange juice and also came around with a bowl of eggs. It went a little cool in the evenings and we made a fire which facinating enough, heated the other rooms as well as the lounge. Beautiful wild flowers surrounded the cottage and fields. A perfect getaway to unwind.

Alberto and Susana created a piece of paradise. Thank you. We will come back for sure. The place is an original place of quietness and nature. I think the owners live a dream. We liked it very much, the oak trees, the cat, the sheeps and all again the nature.

Absolutely loved this place. It's in deep countryside, in Serra de Sao Mamede National Park,amidst Portugal's wonderful cork oak woodlands, one of Europe's most diverse environments. Woke up every day to cuckoo, hoopoe, golden oriole, nightingale. Wildflowers to the doorstep. Slept to (faint) sound of goat bells. Simply furnished from ( I think) IKEA.Plus usual home comforts like wifi and DVD. Yes, it's small but manages two people very well. Comfortable bed, seating etc.Decent shower and washroom, generously sized for such a small house. Based on an active small farm. Owners, widely travelled, helpful and friendly with good English, Italian and, of course, Portuguese.Amongst other things they are ready to supply you with unlimited eggs! A large and amiable dog which, if you're not a dog lover (I am), the owners will keep contained. Several miles from any shops and cafes but easy enough to reach with car. Wider range of shops and restaurants within an hour's drive at Portalegre and (our favourite) Estremoz, with its unmissable Saturday market. The only shortcoming was the kitchen facilities, adequate but limited. Two (not very easily controllable) gas rings, no oven (but a microwave). And I'm sure if you wanted specific kitchen items Susanna would find them for you.
We stayed seven days and look forward to returning for longer

We had a wonderful time staying in this beautifully renovated cottage. It was well equipped and being set in a cork/organic farm we were delighted not only with the friendly chickens that visited us but also the fruit and vegetables that were freely available to us. We also purchased some of their home produced products to take with us and have enjoyed eating these and reliving our stay.
We walked nearby and also were directed to river swimming which in the heat was most welcome. There are also some cave paintings nearby to explore. If you enjoy being away from the crowds then this is a truly delightful spot to savour.

Beautiful, authentic portuguese cottage. Tranquil yet close enough to amenities, great base for exploring historic towns and sites. Susana and Alberto are warm and so welcoming. Susana should open a restaurant, the meals were first class. Arrived home yesterday and already we are sorting out dates for our next visit, a very big thank you to them for a wonderful holiday. Excellent value.
