Everything was great and would definately recommend it. The only small issue is there is quiet a steep slope to the lower apartments but you can take the slightly longer and flatter route. Staff were also great, thanks for a great week.

we travelled with 2 children aged 7 and 16(almost 17) stayed in block 1 and had a fantastic time.
the hotel is bright airy and clean. The rooms large and spacious, we had seperate bedroom and living area (which housed the sofa bed) and a kitchen area with fridge cooker and kettle(not that i cooked) and 2 large balconies.
the staff both first choice and hotel staff are all friendly and work extremely hard day and night.
there is food and drink in abundance - always a good selection, i feel you would have to be extremely fussy not to find something to eat. (or drink)
there is a supermarket in block 2 (definately the quieter of the 2 blocks) which is reached via some steps, if you had mobility problems they would pose a difficulty but no problem otherwise.
our 2 had a fantastic time - the older one had a great time joining in the "adult" activities around the pool and the younger one enjoyed the childrens activities both poolside and at kids club. - we enjoyed the peace that 2 happy entertained children gave!
there was only 2 downsides to this holiday 1 - we were only away for a week. 2- the older one had such a good time he wants to come on holiday with us again.!

Room Tip: if you want to be near the activities, kids clubs and entertainment ask for block 1.

This is our second visit to this Holiday Village, myself and my twin boys (age 9). Last year we had gone to the Holiday Village C'an Picafort, Mallorca and although very good it isn't a patch on this one.
My sons love the splash park, spent hours in the water with new found friends and the lifeguard made sure no one was being too rowdy (there were a few older kids from a particularly large, noisy family who jumped into pools regardless of the little ones around them.)
The new age groupings of the kids clubs is much better. My two were in MegaStars and were delighted that during our time it seemed to be a boys only club! The reps were fantastic at keeping them entertained with raft building although the chocolate party did not go down well with one of my boys who would rather have eaten the chocolate than wear it! The high ropes was a favourite.
Time your visit to the Palm restaurant wisely unless you like queuing for no apparent reason behind a bunch of grumpy Brits. The food was fine, good enough for me as not having to cook or wash up for an entire week makes me happy! There was always something to eat although I would have liked to try some more Portuguese dishes it would have probably caused a riot amongst the egg and chip brigade who are always spoiling things for those of us who want to try something new and different.
Because of the booking system we didn't get to the a la carte restaurants which was a shame but didn't prevent our enjoyment in any way.
Our room was in Block 2. Much is made of the steps and yes they are a burden but you soon find the rhythm in skipping up them and you can eat as much as you like knowing you're going to get a bit of exercise to burn off the extra calories! Previously we had been in a 1-bed apartment so the fact we were stuck in a connecting room (they do exist) was a bit of a disappointment although I blame the travel agent - the whole booking was a complete nightmare so I'd book online from now on. We were told that chances were we'd be in a larger room anyway which was a porky pie. Block 2 wasn't the problem but being in a smaller room, although the room was great, when others were in the lovely apartments felt like we were being conned a little.
Staff were friendly as always, remember they are dealing with a lot of very rude people - say obrigado a few times and see how attitudes change to you!
I wanted to stay longer and wished I'd booked 2 weeks. The staff on resort are superb, Aaron and Derek (who was the rep boss) seemed to always be working but had so much energy and were full of advice and tips on making our stay happy. First Choice should be really proud of them.
We walked to nearby Olhos d'Agua which is a lovely little town nearby (the heat made the journey feel a lot longer than it actually was but the beach is beautiful) and a taxi to Albufeira old town cost E6.

Room Tip: Book online so you can see exactly what kind of room you are getting. Block 2 really isn't that...

The holiday was amazing. I flew from Glasgow with my family ( i must point out i am a teenager) and as soon as you got on that flight you were welcomed to the holiday. They excited you for whats to come. I have been to a holiday village previously so i was prepared for the flight as everything was the same. The Thomson crew were extremly helpful and were happy to help you with any queries. As soon as you touched down they were helping you with any problems and then passed you onto the Portugese bus drivers who took you to the terminal. Once you have passed passport control (which took no time at all) you meet the holiday reps who point you to the right bus. The bus transfer isnt long but the heat is the killer. Once you reach the resort you are greeted to a nice glass of Sangria or Juice (for the kids). Check in takes no time at all but you may have to wait in a queue for a while. The rooms were nice an spacious and were very clean. The kitched was equipped with everything you needed and the bathroom had all the necessities. The beds took a bit of getting used to but only because of the heat and them not being the one your normally in. The TV had a few british channels so you could always find something to watch. Football matches and other important events (mostly sport) was shown in the bars. The swimming pools were very clean and quiet most of the time. the kids were normally found round the splash pool at the mini waterpark. They foosdat the snack bars were good althought they were limited. Cant really argue with drinks on tap. The food at The Palm Buffet was good although i did get tired of it after a while. The Italin and Portugese were good aswell although booking filled up fast. The entertainment was really good and there was always something on for everyone. You didnt have enough hours in the day to get bored. The holiday village staff treated everyone as an individual and were more than happy to help with any problems. People say that Colina 1 was very noisy. Its not. You can hears kids running outside only if they are screaming. It will only annoy you if you are looking for problems. By the end you wont want to go back home. It is a brilliant holiday destination with lots to do for everyone. all bases are covered in my mind. It is worth the money to have a brilliant time in Algarve. The shops around the resort were very nice and reasonable money for things. The beaches around were brilliant but you do have to be careful of the waves if you go too far out and the rocks, The excursions were fantastic and loads of people were recommending them.

Room Tip: Colina 1 = For Families, Party animals and People who have trouble moving Colina 2 = Quieter, coupl...

We spent a week here and had so much fun we even tried extending our stay! There is so much for the children to do although my 7 and 3 year old found the kids club a bit strict so only went once, but they do a lot of activities around the pool areas too. The kids splash pool is great as are all the other pools, very cold though!! We had a family room with bunk beds and it was massive, very impressive. We were in block 1 which is definitely the best if you have walking difficulties or a pushchair as its quite a steep hill to get up to the main restaurant. Our rooms were right next to the bar area but we didn't suffer too much with noise, just a few kids running up and down corridoors with no supervision while parents enjoyed all inclusive drinking!! The food is the same as everywhere, yes it can get repetitive but they are catering for a lot of people, but we always found something to eat at every meal time and it was cooked properly. The staff could maybe bit a bit more friendly and smiley but they have had to put up with a lot of rude brits so you can't really blame them? The entertainment team work really hard. The beach is lovely if you dont mind a walk or can wait for the courtesy bus - that ideally would be bigger and would run frequently!! Overall we had a great time and would definitely go back! And the transfer was only 40 mins, not as described in the brochure!!

Room Tip: Request Block 1 if you don't want to be walkng up steps or a hill

My husband and I,both pensioners, flew from Newcastle to Holiday Village with First Choice on Thomson Airways. Holiday started on 6th October and only booked one week before. From start to finish everything was brilliant, flight on time and comfortable - food not very good:transfer quick, signing in with refreshing cool drink, room not available straight away but no problem as we went and had a drink.
Room: Very large ,BATHROOM with bath /shower over, bidet, toilet and sink, MAIN ROOM had kitchen with caramic hob, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee maker, table and four chairs, coffee table/sofabed,armchair,unit with TV(main UK channels) and patio doors to large balcony BEDROOM opening in wall to bedroom with twin beds ,cabinets and wardrobe with another set of patio doors to same bacony which had two tables and four chairs. This was in main building over the bar, overlooking the main pool and with a sea view. This was so surprising considering we were All Inclusive.
Food in restaurant was varied and always fresh. Some meals were wonderful especially the roast lamb and pork but the roast beef was a disaster, half cooked and then finished off on grill, like leather. There was plenty of choice of hot and cold food at all meals. Didn't try snackbars so can't comment.
Splashpark looked great for kids, plenty of games and activities for adults and kids. Didn't go to evening entertainment but it sounded good for young ones. First choice reps worked long and hard to please everyone.
All hotel staff were cheerful and very helpful explaining buses and local area and hotel was clean and bright
We were lucky we were in Block 1, because there was a steep walk down to Block 2 and I felt sorry for families laden with toddlers and pushchairs having to climb up this several times a day. I went down twice to shop and it was hard work. So if you are older or have any health issues make sure you are in Block 1. There was even someone in awheelchair put in this block!
There is nothing in the surrounding area. The hotel runs a courtesy bus at 10 1015 am down to the local beach and comes back at 1.00 1.15pm which is probably enough time.Lovely beach but sea is rough and just a cafe down there. You can walk if you like but coming back will be a killer as it is all uphill.
We got a taxi to Alburfeira for 6.50 E about the same as bus fare, nice little town and beach area. We also got local buses to Villamoura, posh golf resorts and smart marina for 3.85 each way. Also went to Quaterra by bus, same price, a working town with fish market. only problem is once you get off the bus you still had to walk uphill to hotel.
We spent most evenings in bar and terrace, drinks reasonable, obviously not international brands but you know this, my husband even got used to the dark rum. These evenings would be pleasant if parents didn't let children of five and under run around and scream up to midnight. I know they are on holiday but so are other people. Also some toddlers were allowed to run around the dining room and play with hot dispening machines, very dangerous, and run around while people were carrying hot drinks.
If you want a quiet and relaxing holiday then do not go to a Holiday Village, everything is noisy, but that is what they are designed for. Having said that we still enjoyed everything about the holiday and would recommend this hotel to anyone. the bonus was the weather was very hot for october.

Room Tip: Although not so quiet the Colina block 1 is more central and you can ask for a sea view, the higher...

I spent a week here at the end of September/early October 2011 with my daughter and family (two little boys). I was apprehensive after reading lots of reviews on here. So, what a wonderful surprise! I was in Colina 2 and the family up in Colina 1. Was disappointed about this initially but my room was excellent and I enjoyed the peace and quiet down there :-)
The food was lovely, with lots of choice and the snacks by the pool were fine (I had lunch there when I was around ) The only food that wasn't 'spot on' was the meal in the Portuguese restaurant there; service very, very slow too (we didn't return for the second a la carte meal as self-service food was so good) The reps and manager were exceptionally helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The boys loved their activities and also the evening entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed the week and would definitely go back. Don't let bad reviews put you off!

Room Tip: If you have buggies etc Colina 1; if you want peace and quiet Colina 2 (a steepish climb between th...
