i cannot believe someone has rated this so highly it was so bad i cannot believe we had to go back and play it again - we had a package with 2 green fees on this course. i nearly went to watch paint dry instead.
this was obviously end of season golf for them even though they charge more this time of year than any other.
where to start:
tee area - needs over-seeding and leveling
fairways - parts of the fairways were so bad we were moving the ball up to 10 yards to find some grass
greens - omg were probably the worst i have ever had to putt on (9 handicap golfer so understand good greens) we ended up giving putts within a club length as they were so bad

there are so many good courses in the area give this place a miss

bar was fine as was the food but i didnt go there to drink and eat thats for after,,,,

to any golfer please avoid and pay extra for one of the other courses close by

Thank Steve B

We played Pines and Olives ( there are three 9's at this course ), Olives is nicely layed out, but frankly the fairways and greens were in appalling condition. Pines was much better and again, quite nicely laid out.
Personally I would not want to play here again, Laranjal is miles better as are the Quinta Courses.

Firstly; This is one of my favourite Golf Courses in the World. I've been lucky enough to play many Golf Courses throughout the UK, Algarve and Florida but for me this takes the top spot. When I last played here (October 2013) everything was in great condition. Nice, tricky greens, Tight fairways in places but forgiveness elsewhere. I play the Pines and Olives (Pinheiros and Oliveiras) courses and they're phenominal. The Olives is great and an Island Green Par-3 8th and rolling fairways on the 9th makes the return to the clubhouse nice and challenging. The Pines course is my favourite with near enough every hole having an incredible view. I played in the evening and enjoyed a quiet course encountering only 1 fourball ahead of my twoball who let us through with no worries. There's a great sense of etiquette at Pinheiros Altos, and through my past experiences I haven't encountered too many golf 'snobs'.

The restaurant is sensational, grab some lunch on the terrace overlooking the 1st tee of The Corks (Sobreiros) and the 9th of the Olives and soak up the sunshine and enjoy some truly great food. You may spot a couple of celebrities whilst you're there.. I know that Manchester United and the England Football Team often stay near the Quinta Do Lago/Vale Do Lobo area so keep an eye out if you're a football fan.

Whether you're a keen golfer or just fancy a nice spot of lunch, you can't avoid Pinheiros Altos.

Played here today for 2nd time in the last 2 weeks and have now played all 3 loops of nine. Having played here a few years ago I was looking forward to these outings which came as a part of a golf package. Very disappointed with all three. Fairways in dreadful condition looking more like a cricket pitch after a 5 day rest match.
All 3 loops are in the process of annual maintenance but playing off bare almost straw like fairways is no fun. The photos on the website give the wrong impression for the current state of the course.
The tees were poorly maintained but the greens were excellent, true and fast. Bunkers, particularly on the Olives course holes 2 & 3 would be good for growing rice. Some of the bunkers, again on the Olives, had a lot of creeping weed growth several feet into the bunker.

All in all poor value for money and best avoided until later in the year.

This was the first course I ever played in the Algarve and my immediate thoughts all those years ago were .... Wow!

I've been back to the Algarve more than ten times and still find P Altos a real gem. Played it yesterday and had a fantastic time. The Olives are so challenging but full of amazing wildlife, storks, turtles and no end of ducks lol. Playing through pines that grab your balls and round lakes that suck you in this isn't for the faint hearted.

The Pines is more open but don't underestimate the challenge. Some awesome lakes bring water in to play and tight drives through pine lined fairways make it better to stay safe than take out the big boy!

Playing again tomorrow and really looking forward to it.

Some reviews say there are better courses in the Algarve. True. But this is a gem and at the price is amazing value for money. It's not shabby! The bar and clubhouse do fantastic food, the short range practice ground is top class and the driving range is great.

Don't miss out on this course. The Altos / San Lorenzo plus hotels packages are awesomely good value and provide quality golf.
