“Good hotel - shame about the weather!!”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

Me and my children have just got back from a week at the Alagoamar hotel. We arrived on Saturday 19th October and enjoyed a friendly greeting from reception. I had previously emailed the hotel to see if we could have 2 rooms next to each other as I was travelling with my sister in law and her children but unfortunately they could not accommodate us this time but the gentleman on reception assured us we would be pleased with our rooms. Our room was number 206 and was large and spacious with 2 single beds pushed together and plenty of wardrobe and drawers. The beds weren't the comfiest and the pillows dreadful but we managed. The lounge had a double sofa bed, dining table and kitchen area. The kitchen was well stocked. We had a microwave, coffee machine, fridge etc. Our view was of the swimming pool and this was lovely.

The balcony was large with a large drying rack and table and chairs. The room was cleaned every day. The bathroom was a little dated but it served its purpose and it was a nice touch having individual soaps, shower caps etc. The shower was nice and hot each time we used it.

The swimming pool area was nice but we did notice that a lot of the sunbeds were broken. The bar area was good but as it was the end of season they did run out of some ice creams etc. Unfortunately we only had 2 days of sunshine and the remaining 5 were rain and cloud.

The hotel is ideally located between the old and new town but we preferred the old town. It took about 10 minutes to walk there. There is a good supermarket literally 2 minutes walk to the left of the hotel providing lots of choice at a good price.
For the money we paid I would stay here again. We paid £190 for a family of 3 via Travel Republic but it states at the hotel that the rates are £100 per night.

Just returned from two week stay. Late arrival so we went straight to bed. Following morning we became aware of how dirty and shabby the apartment was. The headboard, light bulb above the bed, bathroom fittings, tiled skirtings throughout were thick with dust, the bedside rugs were in dire need of a thorough cleaning, I removed them from the room and left them on the balcony they were later removed by staff. The receptionist did send cleaners up to the room and they attempted to sort things out. Don't know how these apartments have a 4 star rating. The curtains were stained and the doors of the kitchen units were in need of a good clean, along with the paintwork. The glass on the coffee table was filthy. It made us uncomfortable complaining about the state of the apartment but even more uncomfortable knowing we were expected to put up with dirty accommodation. The cleaner was on her hands and knees attempting to remove the dirt whilst we were in the apartment. We had a room facing the road so the patio windows had to remain closed because of the traffic noise. The kitchen was well equipped, the two electric hot plates would not be adequate to make a meal for a family. It didn't matter to us because we eat out at various restaurants. The pool area is good but the sunbeds are grubby and uncomfortable, the majority of them were broken. A few years ago we previously stayed at these apartments but at that time they were basic but clean. We are regular visitors to Albufeira and these apartments don't even match some 3 star establishments. The staff were quite pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: One bedroom apartment was spacious. Apartments facing road are really noisy and windows had to be ke...

Booked the B&B option and transfers through hotels4u, was an excellent price for a week in the sun. Probably a good 3 star, rather than 4 star, but we were very impressed with standard considering what we paid. Brilliant location, close to everything. Staff were very friendly (thanks to Tina for lovely breakfast). We had a large, quiet apartment overlooking the pool. Very effective air con.
Only negatives - Sun loungers were suffering from the effects of a long (heavy) summer, but there were plenty to choose from. Pillows were a bit on the lumpy side. Would use this hotel again.

We've just got back from a weeks stay at this lovely, clean hotel. Reception staff were friendly, kind, helpful and probably the best thing about our stay. Room was nice and clean, basic, but had everything we needed. We had a room on -1 floor which meant there wasn't anyone below us and we had a great balcony overlooking the pool. Our nearly 2 year old son could play quite safely on this enclosed space. Rooms were cleaned often and staff did a great job. Location was the other great thing about it as it was 10 min walk to old town (which is best for families and the beach) very close to the best supermarket Continete Modela a 2 floor supermarket with some great produce. Plus there was a great Gymbore for kids on the lower ground of this mall. Plus a really nice Chinese Buffet restaurant Tim Tim across the road. The only negative would be the bathroom tiling could have done with a little updating, but I certainly didn't have a problem with it. Great value for money.

Room Tip: Our room was on the -1 level (due to having a small child no doubt) but it was very close to the ba...

Just returned from a 7 day stay at the alagoamar and cannot really fault it. Rooms were nice and spacious and always clean. We overlooked the pool and had a lovely view of the sea in the background. Receptionist staff were always smiling and pleasant and ready to answer any questions you had. Location of hotel was excellent 10/15 min walk to both old town one way and the strip the other and a good choices of beaches. Be prepared though as you walk down to them so coming back is up hill....taxis were cheap and friendly. My one little niggle would be lack of entertainment but we sat on our balconies and listened to next doors. All in all a lovely break would return.

We stayed for 2 nights in Alagoamar Hotel and after considering the pros and cons, decided it is not a place we would return to nor recommend to other travellers. The absolute attraction of this hotel, is its swimming pool. It being September, it was not crowded, had plenty of loungers and was very clean. The pool bar is really depressing though. Service is friendly but it's a very dark place with people smoking (outside where it is otherwise nice to sit) and leaving buds all over the place. I ordered a toasted sandwich at one stage and cannot on any account recommend this very greasy tasteless snack. The apartment was kept clean and the aircon worked a treat! They are quite dated though, not 4 star standard, especially the bathroom which was run down and in serious need of renovation. There were plenty of towels which was a good thing as a notice at the reception stated that the towels (and bed linen) were not refreshed daily. Along with that note there was a second one saying a call for a taxi would cost you 1 euro. This is not exactly 4 star service and I found it rather strange to have both these messages in writing on a stand in the reception area! Indeed, towels and bed linen were not changed during our stay, no idea how often they are refreshed if you stay a week or (I dread to think) a fortnight. The location of the hotel is fine if you wish to be between the Strip and the old town. It's a 15min walk to both and there is public transport in the direct vicinity of the hotel. A taxi from the old town to the hotel costs less than 5 euro (just hold one down, there's plenty of them about, no need to pay the 1 euro to the hotel ;-)). The city of Albufeira we found to be all about the old town with so many historic sites, beautiful beaches and wonderful bars and restaurants. Sure, you want to visit the Strip, as we did, but on returning, we will be staying in the old town of Albufeira. And we will definitely pay restaurant Os Arcos in the Rua Alves Correia, another visit (Go there if you love fresh fish, a homely typical Portuguese restaurant with magnificent service!)

Room Tip: ground floor room gives easy access to swimming pool
