“First Class!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2009

Having booked the Vila Gale, Cerro Alagoa for a last minute honeymoon I was dubious but hve to say very very plesantly surprised. The hotel was 4 star with 5 star service, reception staff lovely, hotel modern and spotless. Maids, bar staff, conceriege cannot possibly do enough for you. The outdoor pool is immaculate and the indoor spa is unreal!!! Go in the evening when the pool is lit - superb!!
Would highly recommend B&B as the buffett breakfast is huge and covers everything from fry-up's to frest fruit to Nutella & Bread..
First Class...my family are going in 1 month!

We booked a 3 night break to Portugal and chose this hotel as we have previously stayed at the Vila Gale Albacora in Tavira. When we arrived we were initially given a room on the inland side of the hotel facing the main road. The room was more of an apatment with a kitchen area and to be honest wasn't that nice. Having read a previous review on this site we knew that you could get an upgrade to a pool or sea view room. This was easy to do by asking at reception, although you have to pay a little extra, 8 euros per night for a pool view and 12 euros for a sea view. The reception staff were happy to show us a selection of rooms and we picked one on the second floor. Although it was a pool view you could also see the sea and it got the late afternoon sun on the balcony. I would recommend paying the extra as it was much quieter on this side and much more pleasant to sit out on the balcony.

The breakfast was great and you could eat as much as you wanted. The hotel had an outdoor pool with separate kids pool although it was still quite cold at this time of the year. There was a heated indoor pool although to use it you had to wear a swim cap, so no-one was using it. There was off street parking for our car at the front of the hotel so we didn't need to park underground at an extra cost. There was a slide and swings for the kids although the kids club wasn't open at this time of year.

The hotel was about five minutes walk from the old town and fishermans beach, although this was down a fairly steep hill. It wasn't a problem for us but might be a bit of a struggle if you are older. There were plenty of decent cafes just round the corner from the hotel to get a cheap snack for lunch.

The hotel was spotlessly clean and the double bed was massive. There was a bath with shower attachment in the room, which was nice and powerful and warm. Towels were provided both in the room and at the healthclub. When we left we had to check out by 12 noon, but weren't flying until the evening. However the hotel were happy to let us use the health club changing rooms to shower in and provided a towel free of charge, so we could enjoy an extra day by the pool. The hotel was very nice and I would happily recommend this hotel, or another in the same chain.

we love Vilagale Cerro Alagos. The hotel has great locacion because is easy walking to beach and Albufeira oldtown.
The rooms and public areas had been refurbish recently are are very good. Rooms are private terrace with table and chais, T.V. A.C., minibar, room service but sea view rooms are better because there are not noisy and has plenty of sunny.
Buffet breakfast is excellent and dinner buffet is very good too. THe pool bar is nice and has soft meals all day and drinks.
Pool area is very pleasant plenty of sun beds and very clean and indoor pool is nice too.
Animation team is very friendly and very carefully with childreen.
We love stay in Cerro Alagoa, it´s really a excellent 4 stars in Algarve.

There are some very good things but also some important things to note about this hotel.
On the positive side the staff are pretty helpful and friendly, the buffet breakfast is excellent, the hotel is clean and the indoor and outdoor pools are also impressive. The hotel is about a 10 minute stroll from the beach and old town and also has a stop almost outside for the tourist train. It is also 5 minutes away from a large Modelo supermarket which has a wide range of food and toiletries on offer.
However, there are some important things to note. If you are unlucky enough to be given a room at the front of the hotel you will be overlooking 6!! lanes of traffic. Furthermore, my own room did not have double glazing which meant that traffic noise could be heard for probably 20 hours of the day - these roads are busy. Also the Fire Station is about 200 meters away so you can hear sirens going off - they also let off a siren at 8:00 am on a Sunday to announce a public holiday followed by a number of large fireworks!!
The other major negative is that the rooms have wooden floors which means you can hear your neighbours walking around a lot, plus our room had a door separating us from the next room so the level of soundproofing was not adequate. For English speakers there are around 5 channels on the TV but many popular UK and US series are shown with subtitles on Portuguese channels.

The Cerro Alagoa is a well run hotel with good facilities,it is well placed hotel for all the amenities of Albufeira. The pub within the hotel has reasonable entertainment and light snacks.
If like us you are bed & breakfast their are plenty of good resturants near at hand.I can recomend the DOCE DINER & BAR run by Linda & Lindsay, where you will get a lovely meal at a reasonable price.
