“Alfagar will not disappoint you!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013

This hotel is just fantastic. We love the place!! We stayed last year in the village and this year came back and stayed in the main hotel. Both the hotel and the grounds are kept spotlessly clean.. There is always cleaners and gardeners working hard.

The staff are friendly and very helpful.. Specifically Vector, the manager.. Paula on reception and all the other receptionists... Manuel, Stanislav, Wanderly and Diego are fantastic barmen and always working hard with a smile on their faces!

The Swimming pools are wonderful and the kids absolutely love the choice of pools they have..

Basically if you want a lovely holiday, choose Alfagar!! We will definitely be coming back!!

I stayed at this property earlier in the year with my family and enjoyed it so much I re-booked it for a long weekend in late September. I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the complex is spotlessly clean, the amenities are brilliant. We went into old and new town at night for roughly €5. It is a lovely relaxing place to stay and I would recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: It is worth staying in Alfagar 2. Most of the rooms have a pool / sea view but if you manage to get...

Good value, clean, great rooms and the biggest balcony we have ever had. Worth paying extra for sea view. Get the use of facilities in Alfagar Village as well. Total of 7 pools, including indoor & kids. A bit remote, away from the main restaurants/bars on the strip, 25 min walk, and main square in Albufiera, 60 mins walk. Taxi back form main town, 7.50 Euros, dearer after midnight. Beach easy to get to, but best to take road way back.

My husband and I stayed here at the beginning of October for 3 nights. We were here before in June/July 2011. As we came a bit more out of season this time we found the hotel a lot quieter (pleasantly so).

The rooms are clean, well equipped, a good size with air conditioning. The bed was not very comfortable but that's the only negative I have.

The pool areas are lovely, clean, well maintained. The landscaping is beautiful. We spent most of our time at one of the quieter pools in the older Alfagar Village section.

There is direct access to the beach from the hotel. It is down a lot of steps, which was fine for us but maybe not for guests with any mobility issues.

On this occasion we didn't eat at either of the Alfagar restaurants so can't provide comment. We did have a drink at the Alfagar bar, which was beautifully decorated with good service. It was, however, quite pricey.

We had hired a car for the few days we were there. There is loads of parking which was great.

All in all a very adequate base which I would recommend and would also be happy to visit again.

The complex is split into two types of accomodation and we stayed in the hotel not the apartments. We went as part of a package on abed & breakfast basis and despite reading some negative reviews ref breakfast we were not dissapointed, do remember though that a full English breakfast is not going to be like you get at home! Plenty of fresh fruit, cooked foods etc.
One outstanding feature is how clean the place is both public areas and the rooms and there are an excellent team of hardworking cleaners who start by hosing and scrubbing the pool area down every morning while you have breakfast.
Snack bars are great and free wi-fi is available from the one among the apartments, where as the hotel tried to charge 20 euros for it in the rooms, so a good afternoon excuse for a beer and catch up on the web, sometimes twice aday!
We ate in Olhos most nights so did not have any evening meals but it can get expensive with taxis between 5-6 euros each way and they can take a while to find so book from your restaurant when you want to leave or go to the taxi rank and call one of the numbers, they will send one out to you which is quicker than just waiting for one.
To summarise:
Pool area spotless and plenty of sun beds plus a kids water park.
Great snack bars
Good Breakfast but dont expect a full English!
Friendly staff
Excellent cleaners
We went with Thompson and found the whole experience trouble free
Enjoy if you go, I have also reviewed some of the restaurants we went to during our stay so hope that helps you plan your trip.

Room Tip: We paid extra for a sea view and got what we paid for, big balcony and sea view to right and left!

We stayed in the main hotel known as Alfagar II built 4 years ago. Alfagar I is the older, village style part of the complex which is lovely but the rooms all looked smaller, so we preferred the aparthotel. Couldn't fault the apartment which had air con in both living room and bedroom, was very clean, large and well equipped, incl. a ceramic hob and full oven/grill. Cleaners made up beds, left clean towels etc. every day. The pool area was very clean and had lots of loungers, all in good condition. We saw a man taking water samples from all the pools several times in a week, so presumably he was making sure the water quality was ok. Wifi (free) just installed in the apartments which was great as we didn't expect it. TV had Sky News and all the usual English channels, BBC ITV etc. We stayed in room 312 which was front centre, overlooking the main pool and sea view - would recommend it for position as we got the sun from morning through to late afternoon, when it shone, which wasn't often that week unfortunately. Only had to wait an hour to get into our room as we arrived at noon and we expected a wait but it wasn't a problem as we left our luggage and went for a beer and snack in the pool bar which was very pricey - 4 small beers and 2 ham salad rolls came to 18 euros - it shut because of the weather and anyway I don't suppose it got much trade with those prices. The supermarket is just up a path and very reasonable - we used it for all our shopping, incl. wine and beer. There is a bar and a buffet restaurant inside the hotel which we didn't bother using, but we went to the a la carte Rosario restaurant on our last night - Reception had given us a card for a complimentary bottle of wine obviously to encourage people to use it. Food was ok, nothing startling - the waiters are very polite and friendly, as are all the staff in the hotel generally. We also ate at Martins one night but weren't impressed, although the fresh fish looked good in the chiller. The hotel has its own small beach down a long flight of steps, but we found too many ants there for our liking so preferred the nearby beach at St Eulalia which was also accessible from the hotel. A 15 minute walk along the road towards Faro leads to St Maria beach which was also good, both are large beaches having restaurants and lifeguards. Nice indoor pool at the hotel too. Transport can be a bit of a problem. Taxis can be booked through the hotel, for 50c, but they warn you they may take some time to arrive. A 30 minute walk takes you to the outskirts of Albufeira but if you want to go to the old town you need transport. There are bus stops outside the hotel, but a distinct lack of information about stops once you are on your way, which resulted in us ending up at the terminus one day and having to get a taxi back into town!! One way bus fares are 2.20 euros from the hotel to Albufeira. It is pretty annoying that flagging down taxis is not allowed, you must get one from a taxi rank - the main one in the old town is just off the square and you have no alternative as there are no buses in that area. We waited an hour for a taxi in a long queue one day because it rained heavily and everybody was heading home! The hotel does run a shuttle bus but it comes back mid-afternoon. There is also a road train that does a circuit around the tourist area of Albufeira. Overall, we enjoyed the holiday and would probably stay there again.

Room Tip: We liked 312 which was a lower section in the middle of the hotel and was actually the top level on...

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2013

Stayed the last 2 weeks of August 2013 with my wife and my two girls 5&7yrs. The flight and transfer from the airport to the hotel was perfect with no delays. Upon checking in our room was not ready had to wait a couple of hours this was not an issue so decided to have some lunch in the Pub/Bar restaurant beside the adventure playground. First impressions a little expensive for what you receive, service was ok, friendly and efficient. Checking in was quick and easy received room card, paid deposit for Safe & TV remote this was €40 with €20 of this returned on departure all standard stuff that you expect to pay these days. We got a ground floor corner apartment in the main hotel, this was extremely spacious large living room/kitchen very well equipped even had a coffee perc which is a nice touch, we had three sliding doors onto a very large balcony looking over the football pitch and main swimming pool. The balcony had two sunbeds and a table and four chairs that was lovely for breakfast each morning, the bedroom and bathroom was excellent no issues. I would have to say probably the best accommodation we've stayed in since our trip to Antigua & Barbados. The air conditioning in the apartment was very efficient and worked well and was needed as temps were in the 30's each day. The Pools were great with a good choice to keep you entertained from a relaxing quite pool on the cliff top to the more busy pool with a good children's separate pool beside the Pub/bar which you could receive free WIFI, with the slide pool beside the main large pool was a novelty but was rather busy, unfortunately if you need a sunbed you had to do what I hate doing and place your towel very early. Unfortunately I would say that about 80% of the sunbeds were broken with the recliner broken therefore only one position and that was horizontal. Alfagar you really need to get this sorted. The gardens and surroundings were extremely well maintained, the on site shop was very well stocked with fresh rolls & cakes each day, all very well priced and the staff very friendly. The Alfagar complex is a little bit out of town so a 20min walk or taxi is required the later can take a bit of time as you need to book one at the reception at a cost of 50cencs, like really come on alfagar, with the wait anyting from 5 to 30mins wait. Martins Restaurant was about 500yards form the hotel and served good fresh fish dishes and general holiday food for all the family very well priced this was a busy place and service although good could get a bit slow when busy I would recommend Martins, Our other favourite was an Italian restaurant in Santa Eulalia called 'Giovannies' highly recommended. The Al a Carte restaurant on site behind the pub/bar is very over priced and is pretending to be something it is not, service is good but food is canteen quality at best and the deserts are disgracefully priced for what you get. The service in the both bars in the evening time is disgraceful very poor, with the general bar manager who has a small resemblance to 'Michael Moon' out of 'Eastenders' running about fire fighting the poor service, he a nice guy but a bit to sickly sweet for my liking.

We took one trip to Zoomarine which I would highly recommend a very enjoyable family day.

Overall a nice enough complex looking a little tired around the pool areas, something they really need to address as this would be the cornerstone of their business between 8.00am & 7.00pm, they should also invest in some customer service training for their bar staff either that or employ some Irish bar persons who can actually serve more than one person at a time. Location wise beautifully perched on a cliff top with stunning vista's over the ocean. The beach is easily located after a short decent down some steps.

I would recommend Alfagar II even though a little far from the main towns of Santa Eulalia & Albufeira. Not sure if we would return maybe.

Room Tip: Request a corner apartment in the main Hotel
