“Strictly for Portuguese people.”
Reviewed 2 December 2012

I spent three weeks on half board at this hotel returning on the 29 nov.2012. The hotel is only used for the British by Mercury Direct and this has only started this winter. The hotel has not adjusted to the British food and does not suply an English cooked breakfast and the evening meal is very limited with the accent on what the portuguese like to eat. There was little change in the hot food selection each week and nearly every night the only hot vegetable was broccoli.
The sweet table consisted of two cold sweets often repeated. I asked the Merury rep to try to get some change but she said she'd pass the request on and that's all she could do. Nothing changed. The hotel itself and grounds is all the other reports say it is including the hilly terrain. As you will have gathered I'm not a fan of the food at this hotel but if the food is not a concern of yours and you want a quiet clean hotel give it a try.

Just back from this hotel and agree with all above comments. The Inatel Albufera Hotel is a three star hotel located near to the beach, it is a large hotel and is spotless though out. It has an outdoor swimming pool and rooms have air condition/heating and a small fridge is included for private use. The hotel has smartly dressed Security Guard who is always present around the hotel entrance area giving confidence of a safe and secure hotel. It is a Portuguese hotel that has this year opened its doors to the British; my room had a newish 32” flat screen LG television which has 20 channels which don’t include any BBC or ITV channels. Speaking to the management about the lack of British channels their answer was all their hotels have the same 20 channels and they are restricted to the package contract, so it seems to me that the hotel has opened its doors to the British but not wide enough.
Guests wanting a quite and relaxing holiday by the pool should look at my enclosed picture showing major building work at the adjacent hotel, my own travel company (Mercury Direct) has booked rooms that are at the back of the hotel and away from the noise pollution which is a bad thing as they also don’t get the sun and this is not mentioned in any brochure.
The building work is expected to last until August 2013.

Just spent 10 days in the Inatel Hotel and A Hughes review is spot on. The hotel is lovely, good location spotlessly clean, the pool is good too & my only grumble about that was the pool bar only open over the weekend or if the Portuguese never went on a day trip. I was half board so I had the evening meal, if you like fish its OK but the meat was very tasteless and dry, I found it hard to make a dinner as nothing seemed to go together but I never starved.
The bar in reception was always closed so we had to use the Paniel Bar which was more like a canteen with tables and chairs and a few comfy chairs, football was on all the time on 2 TV's and the entertainment was normally a solo artist playing the organ or an accordian. The guests are mainly over 65 and Portuguese and they danced all night (bless them). It was a bit like an old time social. The bar is very limited because the other guests only drank coffee or water. No diet drinks, wine or draught beer. The hotel has great prospects if they do decide cater for British travellers. Time will tell!

Just got back from a weeks stay at the Inatel.
Trying to break it down, the location is amazing. Easy stroll into the old town, a hilly trek or 2 minute bus ride to the strip.
Rooms have a sea view, modern and clean. Bathroom has shower but no bath (no problem). Flat screen large tv in rooms.
Service is good, got the feeling that they mainly cater towards Portuguese clientele, as not many English speaking members of staff on front desk (again, no problem-that's my ignorance not theirs!)

Only 2 problems really stick out: the food is awful by any large hotel standard. My wife took a picture that I can upload later, but it basically consisted of bread rolls, cereal, mini sausages and scrambled egg. Same every day, but again, not much of a problem. Only stayed b&b so didn't sample lunch/evening meal.

The other thing was that my wife and I seemed to be the only people under 60 in the hotel. I'm not ageist, but it puts the hotel in a rather sombre mood (to the point where an ambulance was present on more than one occasion). Maybe the food had something to do with the regular clientele?

So all in all- great hotel, great position, great rooms, awful food, too many old people!!
