“Fantatsic hotel, great resort and excellent staff”
Reviewed 10 May 2009

About our 8th visit and the hotel and facilities never fail to impress. Numerous restaurants, pools, gardens etc and yet the hotel never feels overcrowded. Food is fantastic and so is the service as the staff are excellent.
Might be a little expensive, but worth every penny for a relaxing braek with every facility. We'' be back!

faro is an under-hree-hour hop from london gatwick......a new aer lingus service at the same price as easy jet makes the trip even better....the resort is on the cliffs by the sea, about 30 minutes from the airport........

lovely, well-kept surroundings...staff could not have been more kind or helpful..as a holder of a starwood preferred guest amex card, we received an upgrade, late checkout, breakfast and a nice bottle of portugese wine in each of our two rooms..

rooms tastefully decorated with lots of space, a marvelous portugese tiled headboard, a small livingroom area two steps down from the sleeping section, and a large terrace..
my only complaint was the quality of the shampoo and conditioner....bring your own..

breakfast outside was a delight.....plenty of space.thus families with children did not bother others..grounds well-tended. and views beautiful..

as my husband and 16 year old daughter and i wanted to relax, our daytime formula involved outside time, book in hand, at the beach, pool or in the shade in a chaise on the lawn....large pools and several of them.....one child-free........beach can be reached by an elevator and then a lengthy boardwalk.....long stretch of sand....lifeguards for swimmers, good waves, beachside restaurant with large deck...

terrific tennis court with a great pro...my husband played daily.......small health spa, but the 90 minute aromatherapy massage i had was delightful..there is a nine-hole golf course wih school, but we did not use it while there....

one night we ae off-site...the other two nights we ate at a resort resauran wih portugese food, piri-piri...good food, reasonably priced as it is located at he edge of the resort and hus easily accessible to non-resort diners....food very good....local clams a favorite served wih some good portugese wine, boh a duoro sauvignon blanc as well as a vino verde....service friendly and punctual...we ate at a bistro type resaurant outside, locaed in one of the courtyards next to a fountain.......food good, but prices high.......

we loved the resort and plan on going back............

Upon arriving in Albufeira by train from Lisbon, we met some Brits headed home early because their hotel was deserted, the exchange rate was terrible, and the weather was cold. Fortunately for us, the Sheraton Algarve was fairly lively due to their corporate meetings business and golfers staying in the attached condos. There was even an entertainer every night. The facility was gorgeous and impeccably maintained. The place must have 8 restuarants, but only three were open. You will have to go elsewhere for the excellent, simply grilled fresh fish Portugal is known for. The Sheraton 's food is good, but it is international hotel generic. The included breakfast is a good buffet with plenty of variety. Otherwise, the food is pretty pricey. If you walk out the main drive, there are many small cafes and tourist shops in easy walking distance. There might be free wireless internet in the lobby, because I saw someone using a laptop there. Otherwise, it is 10 euros per day in your room, or 15 in the business center. The hotel has two outdoor pools and one indoor, plus jacuzzis. In the the indoor pool, you will be required to use a swim cap ,or substitute a shower cap. There is a hamman, nice exercise equipment and full service spa. The hotel and its golf course are situated on cliffs above the ocean, a dramatically beautiful view. The climb down to the beach would be quite a challenge if not for the elevator.
Yes, an elevator down to the beach, and still quite a long boardwalk with many steps. But worth it for the beautiful, quiet and private cove. If are coming from Lisbon and like trains, it is about 2 hours and 25 euros first class, a very easy journey. The taxi to the hotel will be about 9 euros. You can get Auto Jardin to deliver your rental car to the Sheraton and return it there at no extra charge. Rentals cars are very reasonable n the Algarve.
In early March, it was tolerable golfer's weather, at least by comparison to the weather at home for the predominantly English clientele. Only the last day was it sunny and in the 70's.
For reliable sun, you should wait until April. The outdoor pools and beach won't be comfortable until mid June.

  • Liked — Two comfy armchairs, balcony, and beautiful marble bath.
  • Disliked — Lack of free internet and 5 euro per phone call hotel charge.

We spent 4nights there for a long w-e at the end of March with our <2yrs child. Resort was not 100% opened yet with few restaurant and beach facilities starting in April. Children and other facilities open in June till September. Staff was really nice and happy to help all the time (from reception to the restaurants) which is useful with yound kids.
On the negative side:
- It was very difficult to avoid using stairs inside or outside, which was surprising for a child friendly resort. Beach is not easily accessible and you need to walk down some stairs for a while...
- Quality/Price of the restaurants is not great. Actually restaurants are very expensive (Ex: 1 tiny tomato mozarella salad/1 very small fajita/1 fruit salad that ended up being mainly an apple only salad/drinks for Eur60 at the restaurant next to swimming pool.
So if you can, have a short walk to go outside the resort where you have some low profile restaurant that actually serve very good food (try the sardines at Pihal for 6euro!)...so don't waste your money at the resorts restaurant or negociate a good half/full board deal (which some people did apparently)
- Main swimming pools are not heated, so forget a swim in this season.

But even these negative points didn't irritate us that much and we really enjoyed our stay. We will definitly go back !
Enjoy
