“Best meal in years!!!”
Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

The Bluee Sky restaurant is located only 100m off one of the streets joining the 'new strip' in Albufeira. Myself and my wife were in search of some good local cuisine on our last night of our stay recently and, boy, did we find it!! We met a local man with flyers at the top of the street who showed us some of the tempting choices and said if we wanted good, homemade food that we should go and have a look at this family run restaurant with no obligation! The restaurant's decor is functional, clean and simplistic as the family are more interested in making great food to promote their restaurant. From the moment we were seated by the welcoming owner and told he would be right back with the menus and some fresh bread and homemade fish pâte for us to try, we knew we were going to be given great service. The tempo of Blue Sky is relaxed and easygoing, including each table with a friendly comment or little joke each time. The recommended house wine was amazing and, priced at only €7.50, we enjoyed two bottles over the couple of hours we spent there. We could have happily stayed there for the entire night but an early flight dictated that we didn't! My wife and I both tried the Seafood Cataplana (2 pax min) and it exceeded all of our expectations!! The amount of fresh lobster alone in the dish would make it well worth it's price, not to mention the array of other great seafood in this traditional treasure all served with skinned boiled potatoes! On the owner's wife's suggestion, I tried adding a little piri piri to the dish to give it an extra kick - awesome!! Ps. They sell bottles of this spicy oil too! We bought 2 when leaving. Try the famous 'Rice Cake' for dessert, it's delicious!!!! Will definitely come back to visit!! Thank you guys so much for the wonderful dining experience!!

“Good Portuguese food”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

On our first night in Portugal we decided to go to the strip and we were stopped by a guy promoting this restaurant. To be honest we felt like we were getting into trouble for looking at other places for food!! I could tell he was passionate about the place but he came on a bit to strong. We decided to eat elsewhere and check on here for reviews, the reviews are not wrong! This is a lovely wee restaurant down a side road off the strip. The owner was lovely and made sure we were catered for. My friend had the steak and said it was the best steak she's ever had. However I would steer clear of the chicken kebab and omelette as it wasn't all the way cooked. Other than that it's a lovely wee find!

“Great authentic Portuguese cuisine.”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

I would happily go back to Portugal just to eat in this restaurant. The food was fresh and cooked to a high standard. Blue Skye is a family run restaurant. The owner and the Dutch waitress were delightful and very professional. We liked it so much we went 3 times in the one week we were there.
I recommend any of their seafood dishes. They also make their own Pate. The owner knows a great deal about food and is very passionate about the place. The Cataplana with fish n seafood was out of this world and so was the King/ tiger prawn grilled dish. If you like rabbit, you should try their rabbit starter-OK, rabbit is not for everyone but you will pretty much enjoy any of their starters.
The meat dishes are equally delicious, especially the lamb chops and steaks. The best red meat I'd had in a long time!

They also make great espresso; by far the best coffee I had there. Try the rice cake (it's not made of rice). Delicious! This was the cheapest, authentic restaurant in the strip area. Just 2-5min walk from the strip and tucked away from those tacky places that only cater for hen/ stag parties and fish n chips. You will not find a better place in this area.

The wine is lovely and very cheap compared to other restaurants.
There are similar restaurants around the area but this was our favourite. Great value for real food!

“Excellent traditional food”
Reviewed 30 April 2014 via mobile

We had a meal at "Blue Sky" after reading reviews in TripAdvisor and speaking to the owner of this family run restaurant. We had a fabulous meal, the lamb chops and the land and sea kebab are to be highly recommended. The menu was very reasonably priced and the service provided was first class. We had a table outdoors which was set in simple surroundings, but was very comfortable. An added bonus was a separate area for smokers to use.
Usually we return to our favourite restaurant for our final evening meal of each holiday. Blue Sky will be it on this occasion!
