“We loved it and we'll be back!”
Reviewed 28 July 2011

After reading some of the reviews we were dreading staying here but were pleasantly surprised. The location is the best in the resort, a 2 minute walk to the beautiful beach, the old town can be reached in a slow 30 min stroll by beach or by the courtesy bus 3 times daily, around 10, 12 and 4. The strip is 5 minutes away up the hill. We arrived on 13/07/2011 and stayed for 2 weeks on a bed and breakfast basis. I'll get the bad points out of the way, I have a terrible fear of cockroaches and on my first day 5 tiny roaches came out of the grill on the side of the bath, I reported this to reception and was assured they would deal with it, I didn't see another one during my stay. The resort in general has a problem with mosquitoes, I was badly bitten although there were 2 cans of insect spray in the room, if you are staying best bring a plug in device. We stayed in room 314 block A.Yes the rooms need updating but the grounds and facilities more than make up for this, the grounds are beautiful, the main outside pool is huge and not cold, there is a heated pool indoors , kiddies pool, small gym and sauna. Also tennis courts, table tennis, 2 pool tables, gaming machines, internet access ( wifi is not free) and childrens play area. We had one room with 3 single beds, ample storage, satellite tv a great fridge with an ice box, bathroom had shower, bath toilet and bidet. All rooms have a balcony, the balconies are fairly private and all have furniture, a small extendable washing rail attached. Although our room overlooked the entertainment area, we saw this as a bonus, the entertainment was good, the staff rehearse during the day and it is good family entertainment starting with the man on keyboards, he's quite good, bingo then the show different theme each night, eg magic show, animal show, musicals this is followed by the music again, there is also the kiddies disco. We also had a great view of the sea. Rooms are cleaned every day, towels changed daily and bed linen changed twice weekly. All staff were pleasant, there was no smell in reception, the place is spotless. Breakfast was dead on, 6 cereals, melon and lots of fresh whole fruit, 4 juices, water, tea coffee, hot choc, capuchinno, expresso etc, continental breakfast choices, fried eggs and bacon one day, scrambled eggs and frankfurter style sausages the next, chips and garlic bread daily. There was also cake, sugar free biscuits and other biscuits. and a good bread selection. Lunches looked good, but we opted to eat out at the nearby Cinneasta caffe as great value for food and drink and worth a visit. Yes we would definately return . ( ages 48, 45 & 15). Would appreciate a kettle in the room and music by the pool otherwise very happy!

Room Tip: If you want self catering facilities best ask for this in advance

very unfriendly welcome. staff treated us like cheap tourists.not helpful.there was only 1bar that served all inclusive food and drink and this always had a long cue (naturally).Food always the same and not much of a variety.tasted good but got boring.Rooms were clearly not cleaned properly as the same dead fly remained in the same spot on the floor as did the strands of hair belonging to the previous occupants.Sad excuse for a gym, sauna, and jacuzzi. The pool and beach were beautiful so top marks for that.Although the hotel's decor and furniture had clearly not been updated or replaced within the last 20yrs,wasn't much of an issue compared to the rest of the flaws.Felt like a 2star hotel.would not of felt so bad if i hadn't spent so much on the vacation.

Room Tip: rooms were dusty and very noisy and old bed.rooms were very dated too.

We arrived at midday and had to wait 2 hours to get into our room. Not the best of starts after a plane journey but at least the reception lady was friendly. However when we got into our room in block "A" on the 5th floor we were pleased. It was clean with a lovely view out to sea. We were pleased we weren't lower than the 4th floor as there was another building in front of us. The room was air conditioned and worked well. WE also found the beds very comfortable.

There are two pools but one is reserved for guests with yellow arm bands. We never did find out why. At first we thought they were on a superior package but they used the same restaurant and bars as us. Most strange.
Our pool was fine. Nicely positioned with lovely views over the sea at the south end. The pool complex was sheltered by rocky sand dunes which made a pleasant backdrop. Yes I agree with others not enough sunbeds so we had to begrudgingly do the same and put towels out before breakfast. However there were many parasols, I guess one to every 4 sunbeds plus large ones near the eating area which was good.

The location is excellent. There is a hotel guest security gate which gives access down a rocky path which if you go to the right leads to the glorious Fishermen's beach. This is a long sandy beach. It is a lovely walk along the waters edge to the Old Town area. If you take the left path it leads round the cliffs to another beautiful little cove beach. However this is a walk for the able bodied only but well worth the effort.
The "strip" street with all the bars/restaurants is only 5 minutes walk away up a gentle hill. You might be grateful of this once you have eaten a few meals at the Auramar.

The main restaurant is in a lovely position overlooking the sea but it is a shame that despite the temperature being very hot they would not switch on the air conditioning.

There are three bars. The main bar adjacent to Reception is "off limits" to All Inclusive customers and is always empty even in the evenings.
We had our own all inclusive bar outside by the stage area. Very cramped and small but a good atmosphere all the same. I got very fed up with the plastic cups though. Beer is also only served in these small coffee cups.
Four cocktails are available but don't expect to get tipsy on them as they are pre made in a machine and very weak.
The pool bar is next to the self service area and is of the same format.

Now for the great disappointment. The food, it is terrible.
I can honestly say I have never had such bad food on a package holiday. Every day there is exactly the same salad to start followed by a very limited selection of main courses. Food that is left one day seems to appear again the next day as something else. The worst example being a bowl of tinned fruit salad which did not prove popular at dinner. This surfaced next lunchtime with a few leaves around it as a salad dish!
One day I was pleased to see chicken curry however it should have been labelled up as chicken skin curry. It was yellow, I guess turmeric but there was just NO taste to it.
My wife is a vegetarian and there was only ever a choice of pasta or pizza.
My best tasting meal was the day there was duck. Proper taste but a shame that the whole carcass had just been chopped up with a cleaver leaving lots of little bits of bone.
I have posted a couple of photos to show examples.

Breakfasts were in the main restaurant and the best meal of the day although I don't know where the scrambled egg came from. Every other day they did baked apple for breakfast. Strange I know but actually very nice.

On our last morning we were picked up at 7:30 but breakfast didn't start until 8:00. In the past we have been allowed into the restaurant for a limited cold breakfast but not at the Auramar. We had to pick up a packed lunch at reception the previous evening. This consisted of one very dry ham/cheese sandwich, one apple & a carton of iced tea and water.

Did we enjoy the holiday - Yes a great hotel as long as you eat out.

The location of the hotel is wonderful- beautiful views and a 5 minute walk from the new town and two beaches. If you're planning on going out to bars etc at night it's very good as it's only a 10 minute walk from the strip. There was no need for a taxi home, and the walk was easy and we didn't feel threatened once. I was on holiday with a group of friends and from the reviews we'd read weren't expecting great things! However the hotel was clean, big and the pool was lovely. Food was good for what you paid- a range of things but quite similar day to day. As for rooms being 'outdated' I can't say it bothered us at all- they were comfortable and cleaned regularly, if not state of the art! Most of the hotel staff were helpful (but they definitely don't like it if you move tables together at dinner, and were rude to us about that).
Lots of reviews say this hotel is full of stags and hens but in our experience there was a mixture of these and families- there were not many teenage parties, it was peaceful, but you have to be up very early for sunbeds.
Basically, a nice hotel for what you pay for and I'd go back!

We stayed at the auramar for 10 days all inclusive. Overall we had a nice time but there were a few things about the hotel that we did not enjoy. The food was poor. There was a few choices in terms of meat dishes, pasta, fish etc but it was all pretty bland tasting. There was not much attempt to cater for kids. The breakfast was awful with tasteless scambled eggs and horrible sausages and bacon. The lunch time food was not bad. Overall the food was disappointing even for a 3*. The all inlcusive drinks were ok but seemed watered down. We got tired of drinking out of plastic cups after a while! The queues for the drinks were ridiculous! The entertainment was quite bad. However we did make an effort to get down early to see it as there was not enough seats for all of the guests! There was not enough sunbeds and my husband had to put towels down at 6.30!
The rooms were ok - good size but needed updating. The air con hardly worked and was very hot during the night. Must not forget to mention the smell of sewage near the toilets downstairs and also in our bathroom every morning.

On the plus side the views were great and the beach lovely! The staff did make an effort to please and there was a pleasant atmosphere. If you go all inlcusive be prepared that you will need to eat out! Also be prepared for all the steps leading to the restaurant and pool area!

We stayed for one week 2nd week of June and wish we had booked for at least 10 days. We were all inclusive and there was always plenty to eat with lots of choice.
The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly, but rushed - especially the pool bar/cafe area. A very small bar for so many people.
The Germans grabbed most of the sunbeds around the pool (the proverbial towel reserve) as usual - but we managed to get table and chairs most days we wanted it, so we weren't too bothered.
The room was large enough for the two of us, with a sufficiently sized, clean bathroom - we had a problem with the shower on arrival, but it was fixed as soon as it was reported; so can't complain.
The balcony was really small, but the view was fabulous - as most people have said, you seem to get a sea view no matter where you are situated.
The entertainment was mostly geared around the Germans - particularly the childrens entertainment - we didn't have children with us, but it was obvious that the kids didn't understand the staff when they were talking to them and the only thing they sang (repetetively!) in English was "Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes", ha ha.
Evening entertainment for adults was mediocre, but tolerable...the best thing for us and those staying at the same time was the group of "hairy bikers" as we termed them, who gave us all a great show - particularly when one swept on to the stage during a Tina Turner drag act dressed in his own little black number!! Tina the Diva didn't appreciate the imposition, but because "she" was lip-syncing, she had to wait until the tape had finished before she complained over the mic "I have never met anyone so ignorant in 25 years!" "She" was almost booed off the stage for that :)
It was quite a trek down to the dining area for food, but wouldn't be a problem for the fitter ones among you - similarly with the trek to the pool and beach. I am suffering a bit with arthritis in my foot and I still managed it, so not a huge problem.
The only disappointment was that the bar didn't open until 11am each morning, then it closed at 5pm and you had to get a drink or food from the top bar and restaurant. Not ideal, as it was very hot and it would have been nice to be able to stay around the pool without having to trek backwards and forwards for something to drink.
The locality was not particularly vibrant, but suited us oldies to a T - there were plenty of souvenirs to be had and a mini supermarket to stock up on essentials.
Hubby went parasailing while I watched from the boat - 30 or 35 Euros for him (can't quite remember which) and 10 for me to watch from the boat. He loved it.
The weather was fabulous after day one; that was cloudy although warm. The difference is it's not humid like in England, so there was no problem sleeping on an evening, even without the air con on.
We would definitely go again.

Travellers: I am 22 and my boyfriend is 23. All inclusive

Hotel Rooms: Bit out-dated, but clean and had everything you could need. Every room seemed to have a brilliant view of the sea. The view was my favourite bit of the room. Maid service was FANTASTIC, she came everyday and if you were in the room she'd walk staright back out and come back later she would never let a room go untidy. We had airconditioning!!

All inclusive: Timings were brilliant. Brekkie started at 7,30 until 10am, lunch 12-3pm (you could could get snacks inbetween 3pm and 6pm, chips etc). Tea betwen 6pm and 9.30pm. Food wasn't great, but eddible and better than other 3* all inclusives i went to, as long as you eat out a few times its fine 4 the week. Plenty of choice for meat eaters, but limited for veggies (like me), however having said that I was fed happily over the week so wasn't too bad.

Hotel In General: Good faclities. Medium sized pool with plenty of beds (however, it is a big hotel so you have to get ya towels down early!). Felt very safe as only way into hotel was through recption or with a code through back gate, so good for families and for leaving your stuff by the pool.

You could fall out the back door and be on the beach, so gr8 location for beach lovers. The strip was 5mins up a hill, bit longer if your a poor walker. Was far enough away not to bother you with noise or partyers, but close enough to get to if you wanted to go there. May be a bit hard for older people as most of it is quite steep.

Free transport from hotel everyday (3 times daily) to and from the old town.

Entertainment: My boyfriend was a bit annoyed he said it was all catered for germans, but it is not. Infact I think they did very well to please all nationalities at the hotel. Don't get me wrong a lot of it was in german, but alot was in english to. Should you really expect it all to be in english though? We are in another country. The guests were a mix of dutch, german and english so most entertainment they said the words in all 3 languages. Bingo was quite funny though, took about an hour to do 1 game haha. In summary, entertainment was good, full day of activites for kids and night time entertainment every night (bit like a butlins holiday).

Albfueria: What a lovely place, nicest holiday destination I have been to. Beautiful, Freindly people and plenty to do. We went on 3 days out: sand sculptures, quad ventura and on the dolphin boat (black runner). Each one worth every cent :) if you can do them all. Oh! And definetly visit Cinneasta restraunt outside Auramar, mmmmm food delicious! and cheap.

Summary: If you are used to going 3star (like me cos i'm not that rich haha). It is great in comparison to other hotels you have probably been to, if you are used to 5* you will most likely be disspaointed, but overall i thought was good value and in the perfect location to suit everybody; beach, bars and transport all nearby,

Thanks for reading, enjoy your holiday. S from Newcastle.
