We booked this on a whim last minute, not expecting too much and having read the trip advisor reviews before we went. This is just about 40 mins from the airport perfect as not too far away. The reception area on arrival was clean and spacious and the staff pleasant who organised a porter to show us to our room no. 111. This was ground floor directly overlooking the crazy golf course large tree and beautiful sea beyond. Our first thoughts were how dark and tired the room was but we certainly benefitted from this shade as it kept the room cool during the day and then early evening late afternoon it became bright, great for applying make-up. Having said that the lighting in the bathroom was very good as usually these are dark and for women and make up applying a problem. As I say the room was tired but I have to say clean, with lovely white cotton bedding, which were very comfortable. There was a small balcony with the usual plastic chairs, which we didn't use as well as a small table in the room with chairs, great for putting our bits and bobs on. Plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. The safe for 4 days cost us 12 euro but we did get some of this back, although reception didn't tell us this so a nice surprise when we handed the key back in. There was a small fridge, very usefull with glasses and cups, and on request were had a small clean kettle at no charge. There is no hair dryer to your room, not sure if you can get one on request, as I didn't bother.
The small shop on site is rather pricey but what do you expect, sun lotion in portugal is Very Expensive - take your own, we didn't because of luggage weight it's about 17 euros in most shops. The hotel has 4 pools, one being indoors and when we went end June we were always able to find a lounger. We mainly stayed around the smaller pool, near the kids club, very quiet with natural trees for shade. The sun loungers are not padded. We stayed just B and B, and although I thought the breakfast was limited in choice is was fresh and replenished. On offer was cold cheese, and one meat, yogurts and small choice of fruit alternated daily, with apples and oranges and then the old pastry, cereals and then hot food, ie boiled egg, or scrambled on alternative days, bacon, and beans or mushrooms or tomatoes. The dining room was slightly raised so you got great views of the pool and sea. Table clothes and fresh cutlery were plentiful. They need though to improve on how us Brits can toast of bread. There were just 2 machines which were not quick or efficient and there tea bags were weak and poor quality, but I'm being harsh here. We didn't dine at lunch time or evening, but lunch times they had a large snack bar on the lower level offering salads, chips, burgers pizza etc which looked great. The best thing of this was that you could take it out on a tray and sit around the pool and eat - how refreshing, please though make sure you take your tray and rubbish back, as this I'm sure will stop if visitors abuse it.
Pools were lovely, cool apart from the heated indoor one but clean. We didn't get involved in the animation team but they did their best each day to involve people, golf, darts quizzes etc. whilst we stayed we didn't see any entertainment in the evenings, so the reception area was like a ghost town and I understand where you get your drinks in the evening from the snack bar there was nothing going on there either, a bit disappointing if you are fully inclusive. We would either walk to the old town 15 mins along the beach, and get a taxi back, just 6 euros or catch the free shuttle bus in ( limited times available) or walk to the strip - loads of easterners, shops and clubs just 10 min walk away.

The hotel is well placed for the young and fit, but quite a few steps, inclines and declines in and around the hotel, so not great if you want to explore the cliff tops as this is situated on one if you are elderly not fit or have very small children. We found a small beach just to the RHS down a footpath which was a little cove, beautiful and not shingle either. We also walked along the cliffs to the next beach and found lots of little coves and beaches along the way.
The old town just 15 mins along the beach isn't old and is again plentiful with shops bars etc and in the evenings there is a square with lots going on entertainment wise for children- street entertainers. Puppet show, magician etc etc.
We had a thoroughly great time, everything close by, superb views and beach on the door step, oh and our towels were replaced daily and room also cleaned each day

Room Tip: 111 shaded, great sea view and quiet

Holiday 6/6/14-13/6/14. Arrived early hrs of Sat and booking in wasn't the speediest but duty manager was efficient enough. Room A102 sandwich, drink & fruit awaited. Yes they're dated & TV size of a microwave but if you've spent hard earned money & travelled to get here for a stunning room & TV then get a life - you're on holiday & get out of your room. Went on a girly week and I was impressed. Food is good (lunch is the same everyday). There was a total age range from hens & stags Thurs/Fri to Mon/Tues right though to SAGA styleeees. During the stag & hens being there alcoholic drinks are pp only, after that it's 2 pp. The hotel & grounds are clean and the hotel staff couldn't do enough for us. If you're wanting a quieter pool go to the top pool. Entertainment was typical family style but I was there for nightlife so only went down once. Bar shuts at 11pm but there are plenty open up on the strip which you can walk UP hill in about 15-20mins or €5. We enjoyed Matts Bar & Ricks Cafe. Old town is bustling during the day with your usual cafés, bars, leather stalls & souvenir shops. Free shuttle bus to the old town at 10, 12:30 & 4 or you can walk down the beach 25mins or a taxi is €10. We walked back to the hotel which was really nice. Free wifi in reception only, rooms cleaned everyday (if you're up from the night before) & towels changed too. We had a "free loading" cockroach on our penultimate night which got 2 severe whacks from a size 6 but there was cockroach spray in the wardrobe! Tips: take towels as there is non provided for round the pool, €10 deposit for your electronic room key, code to re-enter from beach is 123, don't go to this hotel if you have any mobility issues it's built on a hill, if you can - get private transfers from/to airport. Considering we went for a girly week away with little expectations I was happy with this hotel and would have no problem returning but our holiday was for fun, sun & drink so we were pleased. I wouldn't recommend it for people with mobility issues or families who have young children who plan to have early & long nights sleep.

Room Tip: our room was good enough for us. Twin room was all we stipulated

Arrival was straightforward with pleasant staff on reception. The room was a little aged but clean and comfortable with towels changed on a daily basis. We had a lovely sea view from the room. we stayed on a half board basis for two weeks. Breakfast was the usual hams cheese and breads with the English style breakfast you seem to get anywhere on the continent (hotdog sausages, wafer thin streaky bacon etc) and the drinks from machines which were a little hit and miss. We didn't get the chips for breakfast thing though! The evening meals were a lot better than I was expecting with a pretty varied choice and different Portuguese dishes each night. Our regular waitress was Alina, She was lovely and couldn't do enough for us and was so helpful. (she deserves a promotion!). The small beach cove is a lovely place to relax with a nice place for drinks snacks etc (access via path to left of large white gate). What we didn't enjoy was the evening entertainment and the bar. The drinks were served in plastic cups which is not really on when your paying for it, okay around the pool area in the daytime of course for safety reasons. We weren't keen on the loud music being piped out around the pool area either. The sun beds were a bit worn and could do with replacing. The courtesy bus is very useful which does three trips per day to the old town which is worth a visit. A pleasant 20 minute walk or so along the beach will take you there also. There are as mentioned in previous reviews a lot of steps which is a problem for those with mobility restrictions

Room Tip: Good coastal views form B wing 2nd and 3rd levels

We have just come back from a week at the Auramar and would definitely return. Yes the rooms need bringing up to date decor wise, but they are spotlessly clean as is the whole hotel. The main pool area is brilliant with loads of sun beds, covered areas to eat and a pool that looks over the sea, fantastic.
All inclusive meals were limited to my taste but perfectly adequate (I am a fussy eater)
All staff really helpful including the bar staff once you build up the rap pour.
Entertainment in the evening is ...............ok
It is a shame that the bar in reception area wasn't open as it would have been nice to get away from the noise of the entertainment for a quiet drink after returning to the hotel.
Once you get used to how the hotel works - Bar, pool side snack bar times etc, it was a lovely relaxing break.

As other reviews have stated you get what you pay for, and I couldn't fault it.

They even left a bottle of bubbly in the room on my birthday.

Would I go again? Definitely

Firstly the grounds and amenities of the hotel are perfect, large pool area, loads of us beds, green areas, mini golf, archery, tennis, darts, ping pong, pool, indoor pool, onsite shop.

The hotel- the good stuff
The view the view the view
We arrived at 11pm to sandwiches, drinks and fruit in our room, nice touch
Hotel is spacious, even though it was full we never felt crowded
Big restaurant

The hotel- The bad

The lifts are tiny we had to split up to get the bags upstairs(there are stairs - look like emergency exits beside the lifts but they are the main stairwell)
The staff can be very rude and disinterested in helping at all
€10 deposit for room key they don't tell you about until you check in.
€15 for safe lock
Lobby bar Never opened.
Entertainment staff are very very weak. Their evening show is absolutely horrendous. The entertainers that come In At 9.30 are only marginally better.

Room - the good stuff
We were in a family room- 2 balconies, loads of space with a sea view(block a 3rd floor) big bathroom. Fridge in room.

Room the bad stuff
Pillows are awful, beds are like planks. The water ran brown in the bathroom, so never felt clean showering and had to brush teeth with bottled water.
The barking dogs in the residential area across the road from our balcony gnat went mental at 2pm and 6pm every day, regularly kept us awake.

The food- we went all inclusive but chose to eat out on a number of occasions. If you arent fussy and have no allergies you will find something to eat, purely because you have to eat. but it is mainly flavourless, repetitive and just plain awful. Standard all inclusive options - breakfast -oily eggs(even the scrambled), hot dogs for sausages, greasy bacon, chips! Tinned fruit!, cereal, cold meats and cheese. Lunch burgers, hotdogs(no buns) salads - one day it was mixed lettuce , tomatoes onions, tinned peaches, raisins and cherries (I kid you not) dinner pasta, fish, meat, a veg a version of chips/ potato shapes. Desserts were awful- I have a sweet tooth and would eat cake all day if I could but skipped the deserts after my first taste seriously yuck. Not a lot of good about it I'm afraid but if you are on a budget a great option.

The drink-. Local branded minerals beer and spirits. (They charge €2 a plastic cup of cola I'd you aren't all inclusive Rip off)

Location all good: away from the lights and noise of the strip, right on the beach. 20minute walk along the beach to old town. 5 minutes to the strip.
Pool overlooks the beach as does the veranda at the bar

All in all if you are looking for a good location, with great views, plenty of space and somewhere to use as a base to lie by the pool nod sleep its ideal. Be warned though there are a lot of steps to get from rooms to restaurant, to the bar, the pool, the reception. If you struggle with a flight of stairs this is not the place for you.

Notes: some reviews about being over run with seagulls and cats. Albuferia itself seems to have loads of stray cats, only saw one kitten at the hotel and it only came back because guests were feeding it. the hotel is on the beach so there are of course seagulls. One large one that likes to drink from the pool and occasionally swim in it but it flys away when people are near.

Room Tip: Avoid 1st floor as it's too low to for views.

just got back from this hotel (11/06/2014)we went to this hotel 4 years ago, so we were expecting good things about it,considering we had a great holiday last time, but it needs to be brought up to date, we where in room A101,walls were bubberling, tiles in bath room had big long cracks in them the balcony tiles were crumberling under your feet, shower did not work properly not in a good state at all,we had a few problems with cockroches after 8 days the duty manager moved us to room A410,what a difference, nice room with great views, to be honest the duty manager and his staff where very helpful,it is a pity that other things let this hotel down, the bar and entertainment stopped at 11pm so it was bedtime every night early a bit like bootcamp, in fact the best entertainment was the karaoke the rest was very very bad, food was good and plenty of choice,
but at week-ends stagg and hen partys are there running up and down the corridors at daft a clock in the morning shouting and screming.not good at all,
this hotels need to decide if it wants to be a family resort or a stagg and hen do resort, can not be both.
sorry to the duty manager who did his best but we will not be going back there again and will not recomend this hotel to anybody

Room Tip: block A 410

Stayed here last year with my partner; it was our first all inclusive. Food was okay, good choice at breakfast lunch and dinner, although the choice of drinks lacked a little (I believe only vodka or rum were available as spirits, but we were happy with wine, beer and cocktails.

The local area that everyone talks about is at least ten minute walk, which is hard in the midday sun, so unless you are well covered, I'd avoid during the day!

Not applicable to us, but the children's entertainers were great and really enthusiastic! Evening entertainment was pretty good too (with the exception of the guy on the keyboard, but being so terrible, he became entertaining by the end of the week!)

Returning again this year, hoping it's still the same!
