“Would not recommend - but made it our own and had a fab time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 September 2010

I and my partner had booked a week All Inc for Sept and after reading reviews closer to the time I even attempted to switch my hotel booking but had left it too late. We had decided to go with an open mind, relax and enjoy the holiday in this 3* hotel.
I feel I must leave you a review I am my partner are a young couple and the location is extremly good your a 15 min walk from the Strip new town with all the night life and your about a 10 min taxi ride from the Old town nice bars and placing to eat, loads going on in the square very good. Strip is like a few drinks and back to hotel, old town is gorgeous settings for food along the front and the best for looking around loacal shops and stalls.....
Back to the hotel there is NO smell in the lobby this must of be sorted it looked very clean and the reception staff had been helpfull on the first night ONLY, anyother time simple questions would result in a snappy answer or even no answer at all :-(
The lunch time staff helpfull selection of food rubbish and very poor quality of cooking unless you like spag bol which is what I lived off for a whole week ha. You could get drinks if you like and please note to All Inc the bottled water IS NOT FREE.
Pool area lovely very nice settings looking over the cliff to the beach(Nice walk to the beach lovely views on the way down the cliff not that bad to get to if you are ok at walking 5 min walk if that to either of the beaches at the side of the hotel) plently of sun loungers but please note there is another pool which is for the germans only or if you have a yellow band which I guess in its own way is not a bad thing (hotel 80% German I would take a guess at FYI).
Breakfast & Evening meals are the worst meals of the day, breakfast over cooked hot food and the cold selection was ok, no continental breakfasts just cooked of cold cheese, ham, fruit. Tea and coffee with juice - we lived off toast and we set our own table most of the holiday service terrible. Evening meals sometimes my partner enjoyed the chicken & Turkey but I personally never enjoyed anything for evening meals and we had to eat out the food was terrible and again no service we had to set our own table and dont wait to be served with drinks go to the waiter/waitress to get served.
The bar staff very nice people no problems at all helpfull freindley good service.
The daytime and evening time entertainment which is shown in the brochure - daytime entertainment had been provided but only by the German entertainment team nothing for the others, the evening entertainment few shows but nothing to get excited about it was eaiter early night or go out the hotel. If your going Self Catering you will have no problems at all. I would of complained to the rep but only saw her on the first & last day of the holiday. All in all we had a great holiday because we made it our own perfect time with my man. Hope this helps. I would rate the hotel as a 2* - The cleaners do a good job my room was clean and large.
Aqualand have a good water rollacoaster but without that there would be nothing more really to go on - a fight for loungers

i enjoyed staying at this hotel the hotel it self was nice but think it would be a problem for oaps or people with walking or breathing disablities as their is alot of steps down to the pool and the dinner time restaurant which is where you have to go for your day times drinks as the bar in the hotel is shut and the one at the top outside which makes it difficult for people with disablities get a drink in the day plus theirs not much to do near the hotel it self the food isnt very good plus theirs not much choice but apart from these things i did enjoy my stay

We stayed at this hotel last year and the hotel was as it is now getting varied reviews. There is no doubt this hotel is in an good location for the beach, for the old town and for the strip however the hotel clearly has peaks and troughs with regard to it standards. It is only a 3 star hotel and being realistic the service, food and room standard is in proportion to its 3 stars.
On a personal level we found all the staff to be helpful, our room was clean as were the communal areas the swiming pools were cleaned every day although for young children the main outdoor pool is very deep. Yes the hotel is restricting for the less mobile but this is indicated in most holiday brochures. We stayed all inclusive and never felt excluded I was never aware that any difference was made. The food was average there was normally a good choice for breakfast and dinner but lunch was more restricted. One thing to mention is the hot chocolate with whipped cream this is a must whilst sitting by the pool!
I would stay at the Auramar again it isn't the best but there is certainly alot worse

We stayed all inclusive, how anyone can say the food is nice I have no idea. The food is exactly the same every single day, spag bol for lunch with ham or cheese sanys although the ham is on the same plate as the cheese (great for veggies) no veggie option in the evening apart from cold pizza with TINNED fruit salad on the top - pizza with cherries and pear how nice! Even the breakfast was horrible - how can you get that wrong! The thought of the food made me feel physically sick so that we had to eat out every day after 2 days! I have been to many all inclusives and never seen anything as vile as this!
The hotel itself is in a nice spot, ten minutes to the new town and about 15 minutes on the beach to the old. The cliff view is lovely and views from the main restaurant are nice just don't eat there! However we could never get a sun lounger (even one in the sun!) The public toilets are dirty and were wet on the floor.
The rooms are very basic with the lumpiest pillows and a matress too big for a camp bed balanced on!
The hotel wasn't even cheap so def would not recommend however if you are going to go do not go all inclusive!

Good location this is what seems to appeal to guests and that made our decision when choosing this Hotel. So we booked a 10 day stay All Inclusive that was a mistake. In a very short time into our stay we were made to feel like second rate guests for being All Inclusive, when we asked for bottle of water, we were told `not for all inclusive for paying guests only' . My partner entered (let in by a member of staff) the Pool Bar at 1700hrs without realising the time and another member staff started to shout whilst slamming down shutters, ending in her slamming two drinks down on the counter that were requested by my partner. After being told that the Restaurant was self service a member of staff snatched a bottle of water out of my hand and shouted across the Restaurant in an aggressive way `sit down I will serve your table'. Every meal time you had to chase staff for simple things like cutlery as well as drinks etc. We were not the only ones spoke to on this manner we witnessed a Manager shouting at two ladies across the Pool Bar ` Are you blind' when they mistakenly put their food trays in the wrong place. We lost how many times we were told you can't have as all inclusive, this was very insulting as we are not greedy people. Some staff were polite and pleasant, but to others it was obvious we were an inconvience to them, resulting in them being very rude and aggressive. We would not recommend this Hotel certainly not as all inclusive, they are tryin to run to many types of boards together and guests who have paid up front are suffering for this.

we love Portugal so we thought we would try the auramar hotel for 1 week and we was
very happy when we got there. there was so much to do like a nice 20 min along the beach to the old town and 10 min to the new town. there was plenty of sun beds for every one which was good. there was no problem with the food there was plenty to choose from.
the rooms was clean and tidy every day with clean towels plus if you can get a sea view.
the only problem for us was you could not get a drink at the hotel until 5 or 6pm on the night you have to go down alot of steps to the pool area which was a pain.
i would recommend this hotel to family's and couples
