Generally amazing hotel and the food was varied, extensive and lovely. The staff were very friendly and the kids club was just what we needed to relax. They took great care of our children and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs and the children they were looking after. Lots of sports and activities to chose from. The place was clearly popular as the pool, bar and restaurant was packed most days.

The rooms we had were fine for us. Not luxurious but after all you don't spend a lot of time in your rooms. The rooms were clean and well maintained so over all no complaint.

On the downside, we had one complaint regarding someone trying to get into our children's room late at night and it was not dealt with, or at least no one ever came back to us to explain what had happened. This was concerning and left us uneasy about leaving our children alone at any time.
Plus the male toilets at the restaurant were out of the order the entire time we were there which wasn't great.

Overall a great experience and we had a good holiday. We are huge club med fans and this did not disappoint. There's no comparison with other all-inclusive holidays. They just do it better than all the rest.

Premises look like they were never refurbished... Corridors look depressing! Room is of very low quality. Bartenders are very serious and very arrogant,,, They sometimes don't even talk in portuguese so if you don't speak french you're in trouble... G.O.s are ok but after some point they seem to be too artificial when they go around like puppets cheering everyone. Leisure times at the bar were of very low level with a singer that seemed more like the sound-check technician...
Anyway, if it wasn't for the swimming pool and for the beach I would probably give zero stars...

Room Tip: Only in the central area are good rooms. The rest is depressing

The rooms needed a make over even though apparently it has recently been redecorated. The staff were incredibly friendly and enthusiastic but sadly lacked knowledge about the surrounding areas and general basic information. The choice of food was extensive, vast and well prepared for the scale. Overall I was disappointed.

This is our second time to Da Balaia and overall we have lost count as to how many Club Med holidays we have been on over the years. We are true fans of Club Med - it offers us just what we want - plenty of choice of sports and activities to take part in during the day which means we can eat as much of the lovely food as we like throughout the week guilt free! For anyone who has never stayed at a Club Med, it would truly exceed their expectations when compared with the usual 'all inclusive' experience. We often find that it's the GO's that make the holiday extra special. I took part in the morning stretching/muscle wake up class run by Marco - a very charismatic person who took pride in knowing everyone's names, treated you as an individual and kept everyone entertained. This is something that Club Med does especially well too - you are always made to feel so welcome! I never thought I'd do an all inclusive holiday, but have to say that we are truly hooked.

We just returned home from our 10 day holiday at Da Balaia. This was our third time at this club med resort. We booked a last minute trip to avoid the rainy weather in the Netherlands and it turned out to be one of our best holidays ever. For the third time the food, rooms and weather were great. But what really made this trip special was the Petit Club Med, where our three little boys (aged 3 years , 2 years and 11 months) went from 9 am til 3 pm for six days. They liked it so much that every morning they asked us if we could 'please leave'. So we did and had a great time playing tennis and going to the beach with just the two of us. Dear Caroline and Ana Rita, you were wonderful. You really made this holiday special for us! We will definitely come back!

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, book in the Golf hotel. These rooms are a bit dated, but good size.

Reading trip advisor before and after out trip this resort gets some mixed feedback some I think unfairly. I got a sense that new processes had been implemented and feedback had been listened too. So good work to both trip advisor and Club Med power to the reviewer.

This is our second experience of Club Med so I think we had a more realistic expectation of what to expect.

Booking was simple enough although reading the comments about smelly rooms we took advice and upgraded as part of the initial booking we stayed in the golf hotel block and had no problem with noise of smells. Although to be honest in looking round the rest of the hotel we could not see where the smelly rooms would be all the public areas were clean and fresh

We were on the 4th floor which is effectively the ground floor and near the theatre. So we expected noise until the evening show was over around 10pm not a problem as we were normally at the show and most people drifted off quietly.

Top tip if you have not already spotted it Avios has the option to book holidays as well as flights so if you collect points (used to be called Airmiles ) you can trade in point for money off.

Our room although dated as per other feedback was clean had everything we needed. We had a connecting room for our son (11) he had a full double which was again clean. Housekeeping did the basics new towels, made the bed and had a quick flick round the room. Just enough for a 10 day stay but would have been nice to changed the sheets at least once during our stay.

Pool bar was nice and getting served was easy. Pool always had plenty of free loungers to choice from. Hot and cold running snacks morning and afternoon as you alway get with club med. In the evening the pool bar was closed and the upstairs bar opened. Music and cocktails available most evenings and more snacks. Overall the bars were ok with a good range of drinks, however a poor choice of mixers. Maybe it is a UK thing be we only drink low cal mixers at home and find the full fat versions quite sweet. Not good for my G&T. Evening shows are good fun as long as you don't expect west end. The GO's are French red coats so 5 star for effort.

The same Restaurant is used for breakfast, lunch and dinner although there is a fancy Resturant but with limited opening the times at the time of year we went. There is a wide selection although quality and taste is a bit hit and miss. I always found a starter main and desert that I was happy with. My son stuck to pasta, pizza and ice cream so he was relatively happy. My wife sometimes struggled to find thinks she really liked and tended to pick over a few thinks at a time. Some thing to beware of buffets get cold quickly once served so if you like you food hot hang around until chefs put out fresh dishes.

So in general again a good holiday overall. I really think that the GO team and the chef have turned round this resort this year and have injected some new life into the place.

On the negative side.
Smoking - although there are many no smoking areas I think in today day and age smoking should be banned for the whole resort. All areas as accessed by families even the covered lounge areas by the pool. Several times we had to move seating areas due to people sitting next to us and starting to smoke.
Cold food - grab your food while it is hot
Screaming babies in family areas - there are areas set aside for families with small children and most people respect this, however there were times in the main restaurant people moved in with very small kids. I have been through that stage and rally don’t want to sit in a creche when having dinner.

It was my first time at a Club Med resort and I would definitely recommend the da Balaia resort. On arrival in Faro, we were met at the airport by a rep who had our keys, labelled our luggage so it went to our rooms directly. We did not have to spend time checking in. The GOs are very friendly and are keen to help. The food is good and despite being vegetarian I had plenty of choice. The only drawback was that the tennis courts were not in a very good condition. The views from balcony was amazing. The rooms are basic but clean and spacious. A good value for money.
