“Lovely hotel...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Had a weeks holiday here at the rocamar may 15th, I read a few reviews on here before hand and personally i found the hotel to be very nice with helpful staff, We did B+B must admit the breakfast did get a bit repetitive, For 15 Euros you could have evening meal, We payed extra for a sea view it was glorious to look out over the beach, Not once did we manage to get round the pool as not many sunbeds, There is a lift for easy access down to the beach but not in use till later in the year. Would definitely come back to this hotel.

lovely hotel nice and clean good food. great staff, we stayed here on 8th may - 11th may wish it was longer but it was only a weekend break. would definatly go back but for longer and I would pay the extra to have a sea view. the walk down to the beach is wonderfull just a bit harder to get back up to the hotel, but there are resting points on the way. weather was fantastic, cant wait to return.
only thing..... I wish they had a kettle or even a fridge in the room.

Room Tip: make sure your room is sea view.

We stayed at the Rocamar in May for our honeymoon. Our room was very nice, but was a bit disappointed at not getting a sea view. However, the sun came around to our balcony after lunch time and stayed there until it went down in the evening. It was lovely for sitting on the balcony. The pool and pool area were lovely, with the comfiest sun loungers! The location was amazing as it over looked the sea and really close to the old town. All of our dealings with the staff were fine and when we told the receptionist we were on our honeymoon she arranged to have champayne sent up to our room, which was a lovely surprise. The staff were helpful when we asked them for anything and the cleaning ladies were lovely. Overall we had a lovely stay at the Rocamar and will definately go back next year.

I have recently got back from my stay at the Rocamar Hotel Albufeira.

Location: The hotel is located in a great spot overlooking the beach and sea. It is less than a 5min walk to the old town which was perfect for us.

Rooms: Upon arrival we noticed that our back door would not lock. we addressed this straight away to reception who were more than happy to help and sent someone over straight away. The rooms were clean and a decent size. Although this was sold as a double room - it was two single beds pushed together. Our air conditioning did not work however we did not address this as the nights were cold and we did not need it! we had a land view room of which had a shared outdoor area (on ground floor) If i was to stay again i would definitely recommend getting a seaview room with a private balcony. Hairdryer is provided and rooms are cleaned on a daily basis.

Breakfast: I am not really a breakfast person however my partner always has a big breakfast. There was quite a lot to select from however it would have been nice to have more fruit available.

Please be aware if you would like to call a taxi from the hotel be prepared to pay a small fee - 0.50 cents and more to call another hotel.

Staff: I noticed before i travelled that some reviews detailed about the unhelpful staff. From my personal experience i found the staff seemed helpful when we had any questions or issues.

Pool: We did find that sometimes there were not enough sunbeds and this is a little worrying as we travelled out of season. I cannot imagine ever getting a bed if we were to visit in August! it wasn't a huge problem as the beach is literally outside but just had to pay EUR 15.00 for a sunbed.

Overall I would say our stay here was good/great - staff were pleasant and room was clean and modern. I would recommend the hotel and would say it is value for money as a 3 star property.

We booked this hotel basically for its location and its modern appearance. Its not the cheapest hotel around, especially as its only a 3 star, and we could of got a lot better value for money, if we had not wanted to stay right on the sea front and very near to the old town.

The hotel itself is very modern, clean, and in a great location, Obviously if you pay the extra, the rooms with sea views, on floors 4 & 5 are the best, We had room at back with views overlooking the road and other buildings. But this was ok, as it got a lot of sun in the late afternoon. If you get a sea view on floor 3 by swimming pool, you get people lying on sunbeds looking in your bedrooms, as some of the sunbeds butt up against peoples bedroom windows.

One of the biggest let downs of this holiday was the staff. they did not seem very friendly at all. Every time you spoke to them, especially at reception etc, they were very abrupt, not very helpful or polite, and really you could say they were quite rude. It put you off approaching them. The same with the waiters at breakfast. The cleaning staff though were a joy. Always friendly and willing to help or have a chat. And they do an excellent job in keeping the hotel in a spotless condition.

The choice at breakfast was excellent, but again, the waiting staff could do with cheering up. And don't touch the trays, they get over protective. You are not allowed trays to put your breakfast on, they are purely for the waiters to collect your used cups, plates etc. You have to keep taking bits of your breakfast back to you table bit by bit, unless you can carry it all in one go on your head.

Though the rooms were nice, clean, fairly modern, some better than others,There are no mini fridges, which is annoying, as you cannot keep your water cold, There are no kettles for tea making facilities. Other than that they were fine. The hotel pool is quite small and quite busy, so you tend to use the beach most of the time.

Even though the hotel was full, they did not have any entertainment for our whole 11 days, which was a bit disappointing, By all accounts, they don't start entertainment until June, so we went to old town every night which has ample choice. Also note, the lift onto the beach does not come into operation until June either. Don't know what that's all about, but hey-ho.

Overall, my wife and I had a great time. Luckily the weather was beautiful or we could of got a bit bored stuck in the hotel with nothing to do. Algarve, Albuferia, the beaches, the resort, the restaurants, the entertainment in the old town is superb, and we would thoroughly recommend it.

As for the hotel, it was nice, great location, etc, but there are a lot better about if you are not right on the seafront. And much more better value for money. Also because of the land space the hotel has on the top of the cliff, there is no grounds to walk around the hotel like there is with other hotels. Your either out by the small pool area, or just sit outside the hotel overlooking the sea.

PS: A lovely restaurant we used almost every night in the 'old town square' called 'The Casa Nova', right in the corner on a bank of steps. Great staff. Great food. Great Value. If you love chicken breast fillet, I would be surprised if you could get it to taste better cooked than this. Absolutely beautiful. Very Highly Recommend.

Room Tip: As most people have said. A sea view on floors 4 or 5 are best, so pay the extra. Avoid back rooms...

I totally agree with the last 2 reviews.
Booked last year on the basis of good reviews from here. Bad customer service on arrival no welcome, no smile no help with cases up the stairs.

Could not get a sunbed for the whole week! I only counted 12?-admit the pool small and you have the beach facility but surely there must be some control over the reserving of the beds given the fact the size of the pool.
Thankfully we only stayed B&B- The breakfast was the same every single morning ,greasy fried eggs ,bacon etc. and towards the end of the week watered down fruit juice, tinned pineapple rings and tinned fruit cocktail need I say anymore. The only plus were the oranges!

They also charge 50c to order a taxi for paying guests!! I've never stayed in a hotel where they actually charge guests to order a taxi When asked them about charges, the receptionist shrugged her shoulders and said all hotels charge this??

Would I stay there again-definitely not- Reception staff miserable first impressions if we holiday makers are such a burden pleased find alternative jobs preferably ones that don't require good customer service!-the guys behind the bar jolly enough, the two waiters who work in the restaurant day and night are run off there feet get some more staff in there and training in customer service.

We've just left Portugal after a 10 day stay, we visited Portugal 2 years ago and found this hotel and had to book as location was great and had a superb view of the beach, also close walk to old town. On arrival we were happy with things, very modern, clean and tidy. Our room was very small and we paid extra for a sea view which was great if you stood up but balcony wall pillar was so high when sat you had no view at all, the sun had gone from our balcony by 12pm so if you fancy relaxing later opt for a back view! We found most staff friendly but maids weren't happy with us for leaving room later in the am, as they started cleaning from 8am! We stayed b&b breaky was ok good choice, some things were persistently cold but always re-refreshing items. If you want
a lounge by the pool this isn't the hotel for you, there are a max of 20 sunbeds if that and they are generally gone by guests who have rooms out looking the pool and we found towels on beds before pool door opened at 8am! Very sad we never got a sunbed for the whole 10 day stay! Pool bar also very poor I asked for 3 drinks and barman said downstairs (which was bar on beach front 3 floors below) overall good holiday but sadly not for us and we wouldn't stay here again although great location just too many down points for us.

Room Tip: High floor and back view if you want sun all day
