“Give this one a miss.”
Reviewed 27 October 2008

We booked this Hotel / Holiday in February and once we read other review began to feel worried.
However, we looked on the positive side.
We were wrong!
This Hotel is doing well to be rated 3 star.
The staff are very surly and unhelpful. ( leaving older people to struggle with baggage )
The food is dreadful, cold meat, blocks of scrambled eggs, cereals with warm UHT milk etc, ooh yum!!.
The rooms are OK, if you do not have a sea view you will miss the best thing on offer, the view..
Best thing about it is its location, near the beach, which is not bad.
If you are thinking of booking, think again unless you like surly staff, horrid food and lots of Germans for company.
If you have kids or not, do yourself a favour, go to Greece or Majorca.

Room grubby. Light switches did not work the lights. Clean bed linen felt & smelt used. Towels, changed daily but very frayed and worn. Reception male staff un-helpful. Breakfast was lots of the same everyday, boring. Hotel drinks very expensive. Little or no entertainment. Must have seaview or don't bother going. Very noisey hotel, bin men etc. Room were still waiting to be cleaned at 3pm everyday. Old tv's/radio very few english channels (2).
Swimming pool, size of a postage stamp and only 95cm deep.

Stayed at the Rocamar for one week starting 11th Sept. Couldnt fault the hotel or staff at all. We stayed on a B&B basis and there was a choice of 6 cereals, 6 types of bread, hams, cheeses, bacon, sausage, tomatos, 3 types of eggs, I could go on but I think you get the gist! Food was of a good standard and couldnt complain! The hotel bar was also very nice, showing sports of the men and a pool table. Bar was quite cheap, I can highly recommend the Mojitos €3.50! The room was large and airy with air conditioning. There was one down point and that was that our window was level with the pool deck. But we comendered the sun loungers outside the window for the week. Using the window to jump in and out the room onto the pool deck. Not recommended for those that arent overly able bodied! The pool isnt overly large but is more than adequet for a quick dip to cool down. There was hardly any breeze even though we were directly on top of the cliff of the beach. There are two very nice restuarants near the hotel Casa De Fonte, as you head into the town and Restuarants 54 that over looks the sea, very picturesque at nice. Prices arent overly cheap in Portugal but that's the €'s fault not Portugals. The fish and seafood from the area are fantastic.

Wouldnt advise visitng the "Gypsy" market in Quaterier (?) not worth it, Slide and Splash however is well worth it!

I (21) stayed here with my partner (28) and our parents (50's) in October 2007. The hotel was fantastic........ very clean and well presented. The pool isn't huge but is enough to cool off in and the beach is literally there for you anyway. Small hotel so ideal for those wanting a nice relaxing break with no children running about the place!! - I can't imagine children being entertained at this hotel as there is not alot going on so it is just aimed for couples and older families etc which for us was just what we wanted.
Have booked to go back again in September 2008 and cannot wait.
This hotel is perfect for couples and has everything you could want and need to just sit back and chill out.

we stayed at the rocamar hotel for 1 week. The pool is very small, and we had to go to the beach everyday at the cost of 15 euros! The staff at the hotel were not very friendly, and there were very few brits at this hotel. Albuferia was a lovely place to be and the night life outside of the hotel was good. however we will never return to this hotel, also best not to ask for a pool veiw room, as people are right outside ur window!!! im glad to read that some people liked this hotel, but it certainly was not for us

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday to Portugal and I would definitely recommend this hotel. We travelled around and stayed in 4 separate hotels and this was without doubt the best! It is very centrally located and has a lovely atmosphere. The views are outstanding and Albufeira is a 'must' to everyone who visits Portugal. We had an amazing room (room 330) which looked out onto the terrace and even though there were people sunbathing outside our window we didn't mind too much as the beach was just a stone's throw away. The breakfast was functional and the bar did superb toasties/coffees/evening drinks but it was a shame it shut so early (midnight). We didn't have any complaints about the hotel as the room was enormous and clean, the staff friendly and the location perfect. The only slight issue was the pool which was rather small but if you went early morning/evening then this wasn't an issue...we also enjoyed sitting around it late at night which no one seemed to mind too much. All in all a magnificent hotel and we would dearly love to return!

After reading some negative reviews we were a little concerned and apprehensive and so we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. After an exceptionally long transfer from the airport which, the First Choice rep assured us was due to the merger of First Choice & Thomsons, we were checked in by a very straight faced receptionist. We then went to our rooms and was impressed with the cleanliness of the rooms even the drawers and wardrobes were dust free no need to dust these down before you put in your nicely washed and ironed holiday clothes! The bathroom was also spotlessly clean and a good size. Next, food was delivered to our rooms as the dining room was closed and although basic, salad and cold meats with a cold drink it was most welcome. The view from the balcony was fantastic and well worth paying the extra supplement. The sun deck was a nice area for sunbathing and although the pool was tiny it was adequate for a dip to cool down and for floating around on the air bed. The meals are very nice although not exceptional. The beach is lovely and very busy which can be expected in high season. The square which is approx 5 mins down the hill is very entertaining in the evenings with lots of street entertainers and a huge choice of bars. All in all a lovely holiday!
