just returned from a week at the sol e mar, excellent location, service and the room was perfect with a fantastic view of the beach. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. Everything you need for a perfect holiday is right on your doorstep. will definitely be returning again .

Just returned from a week stay in Albuferia at the Sol e mar (bed and breakfast). This was my second stay in the hotel, first stayed here 3 years ago. Hotel is in a great location overlooking the sea and right in the centre of the old town. After reading some of the comments below I was not sure what to expect this time however, staff were very helpful, breakfast was nice and although rooms were a little basic, this did not matter as the view more than made up for this. We would definitely return to this hotel it was such a lovely cheap break and to the negative comment below perhaps next time you should consider staying at a 5 star hotel and paying more. Yes there was some building work going on but most people do not go on holiday to spend all day in the room sleeping, most people would be up and wanting to make the most of the fantastic weather and as for being moved to the 6th Floor the hotel only has 5 floors it seems you are finding anything possible to complain about. Had a lovely holiday and would definitely return and recommend this hotel.

just got back from a week stay first time in Albufiera and must say absolutely loved it and will definately be going back , spotlessly clean and found that the staff to be friendly and only to happy to do whatever they could to make our stay one to remember nothing was to much bother ( maybe its how you treat people determines how they respond to you ). yes there was external building work going on but to be honest it didn't bother us at all . (and we were quite close to it ) but then again were pretty easy going and if the work needs to be done so be it, the weather was superb and must say we were out most of the days enjoying the beautiful town and beach , I think a lot of people miss the character of the hotel it may be a bit dated but that's part of the appeal of the place . the room we had was more than adequate for our needs and the view from the balcony is stunning , we found breakfast to be very good always a great selection , fruit , cold meats, cereal and hot food .I think for the cost of the stay you would be hard pushed to find better value if you are lucky enough to get booked in here why go looking to be negative .we did look for booking various dates later this year and it was fully booked I think that says it all

All ratings and comments are based on our experiences AND the, alleged, 4 star rating.
This may have been 4 start in the dim and distant past, but there is no rating agency that could possibly give this more than 2 stars, at most & even then I'd still struggle to give more that acceptable to the ratings. Some other reviews have commented that is a Portuguese rating, but as Portugal is in the EU this cannot be correct or allowable.
The staff and level of service was only just acceptable, for any hotel. Overall not friendly or helpful - e.g. bus time-table request, no words or thanks/interaction when checking out.
The room we were given was right over where refurbishments were being carried out, with drilling, kango hammering etc. When raised with reception we were told the work was finishing at 6 pm and given a promise would not recur. It did, at 8 am the next day. We were finally moved to the 6th floor, where the noise was more bearable. However, 3 days later work started out side our balcony at 8 am. Further complains resulted in this stopping until 10 am. Not ideal when we went for a restful break.
As for the room. Very basic in a 1980's style, and with the worn nature of the bathroom fittings those were also from that time. There was a bare light-bulb on the wall fitting, and 2 very large & dusty cobwebs in clear view in the room. These remained for the whole week we were there. In addition, I dropped a pill in the 1st day and when packing and checking under the bed, it was still there. So cleaning standards poor.
Breakfast - very, very basic and very limited, e.g. no fresh fruit/no croissants, but edible. As we were checking out at 7 am and the restaurant wasn't open we were told we would get a "continental" breakfast tray. We got a tray all right, but what a surprise - it arrived at 4 pm on the evening before & contained a kettle, 2 tea bags, milk, 2 packets of apple juice, 4 slices of white toasting bread, 2 slices of cold meat, 2 slices of cheese, 2 pads of butter and 2 of jam.
Dinner - also very basic, was buffet so could get something to eat, but only eat there once, poor value compared to what was available in good restaurants for the same money and they had better ambiance.
The swimming pool was indoors, beside where construction work was being carried out, small and clean but basis.
No chairs/loungers available for guests - so nowhere to sit and enjoy the views that the hotel markets it's self on.
We spoke with some regulars, who did state that the hotel had gone down and should have had money put in a long time ago, They acknowledged that it was basis, but suited their needs and knew the staff who treated them well as long time guests. They also mentioned that they were told works were going on, were given a choice of rooms and details of work times - we weren't told any of this.
So I guess that if you're not already a regular, don't bother, because the hotel & staff wont bother.
We wont be returning, and will certainly tell all our friends and acquaintances no to come here.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

We stayed at the Sol E Mar this week the location overlooking the beach and near to the old town is great. It was my birthday during our stay and the maid saw the cards in my room, that afternoon she presented my wife an I with a bottle of cava which was a nice touch. For the price we paid, although early season I could not fault it.The restaurant Casa Da Fonte by the steps nearby was excellent.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view we were on the 3rd floor which was fine

Stayed here for 4 days on b/b basis. The best thing about this hotel is the location. Lovely view from room as well as bar and restaurant. Everywhere is kept spotless, with daily change of towels. Rooms are basic, but have all you need with plenty of storage space. We had room 307, next to lift, so occasional noise, as people came and went to their rooms on that floor. The staff we came into contact with were all very helpful. We only had breakfast there and this was fine with hot and cold choices, complaints about the fried eggs being hard is because the warming tray is probably set too hot - just wait as we did till they brought out some freshly cooked ones! We would definately come back to this hotel again as it's so handy for the beach, the shops, bars, and restaurants in Albufeira.
