“Would not recommend”

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights. would definitely not recommend it. Requested top floor when booked it and got given bottom floor. Our balcony was right next to the pool entrance.
The pool was shocking very small and lots of sharp broken tiles on bottom of pool. Only about four sunbeds fit near the pool. No person at bar area, waited a long time to get a drink.

The only good thing was the rooms were clean and maid service most days to empty bin and new towels.

This hotel has a lovely position and is a good looking traditional building. Inside needs a thorough refurbishment. It's grubby and smelly. Only by opening the balcony windows can you breath easily. But shutters in all rooms bang repeatedly in the prevailing breeze, preventing sleep. Water is brown. Sheets are clean but bedding not. Toilet brushes are offensive. Carpets are old and stained. Stairs to nice breakfast room are like an interior fire escape. Coffee machine produces a strange tasting drink. Cereals are stale. All you can safely eat is bread, butter and those little jam/honey packs. With work this could be a delightful place to stay as it has an excellent location and lovely views.

My son and I booked a bargain holiday here through purpletravel.com. The hotel is basic, but our room was clean and adequate for our needs. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we liked the view over the rooftops of the old town to the sea. You need to be fairly fit if you're not using a car, as it is uphill all the way from the town and the reception, bar and lounge (where there is free Wifi) are on the third floor, with the breakfast room on the fifth. Our only problem was the window rattling at night, as it's quite windy up there, but this was rectified with one of my son's socks.

Just booked same hotel again.Had the best room with a view to die for, having my breakfast looking out at the beach/ocean and all of the old town every morning was priceless.Bathroom was bright and had deep bath and lovely hot water.Shower attachment as well.My room had a small fridge which was just perfect to store my cold drinks etc.Small balcony with award winning view.Maid service came every day even Sunday.Fresh towels every other day.Beds made every day .Breakfast was limited,no eggs n bacon, continental only!! Fresh rolls, jam, honey, cereals, ham, cheese .Fresh juices and hot drinks machine. The walk to the beach was all downhill(only 10mins) so uphill all the way back,so comfy shoes for walking.Old town square only 15mins walk(downhill).Advantage of this hotel is the views and it is in a cul de sac,so my hired car always had a good parking spot,as there is a shared carpark for 2 hotels. It is very hard to usually park in the old town,so a carpark is essential really.Pool was just a splash pool really, beds around the pool abit old and grotty, but I was never there really.Beach is the best place to sunbathe.Booked again at same hotel in June.Staff/reception were very nice and friendly. So was the maids. For the price this hotel is perfect for single travellers or couples.Dont think it is suitable for kids/families.Too far from "The Strip" and new town of Albufeira. The only downfall is no kettle in room,so I fetched travel one,but no plugs,so boiled it in bathroom, and ironed on toilet seat!!

Room Tip: Go for high floor for good view.Floor 3 and above.

We got to this hotel absolutely occasionally. We were travelling in Portugal by car and decided to stop in Albufeira for a night. Due to the peak season all the hotels in downtown were booked, but the tourist map had some hotels marked together with their phone numbers. And one of them was Mar a Vista.
We didn't expect anything special from this 2-star hotel. But this place doesn't deserve even a single star! The view from some rooms might be nice, but the view is granted! And the service... Did it exist, the service??
The rooms stink, the furniture is just about to fall apart, the bathroom door handle stayed in my hand after I tried to close the door... They had the sign in the bathroom that you have to pay 10 euro if you somehow damage or stain the towels, and at the same time give you towels that are already dirty...
I can say that the money we paid was too much for what we got. And we have enough experience travelling around the South of Portugal to compare the prices and services.
My advice - don't spoil your vacation. Some hotels on a first line of Playa de los Pescadores cost just about 10 euro more and you will avoid the shock of meeting the realities of the Mar a VIsta hotel.

got back from a 5 night break last week here and enjoyed the resort but the hotel is what you pay for, room was clean and had a good view from balcony (the beach and the sea) we had 2 rooms, htis one was 302 and the other was 202 directly under me, but that had no view apart from the hotel roof in front. we stayed s/c but tried breakfast one morning, cold coffee, cold bits of ham and a cheese slice of rubber, cost 5 euros, 10 mins walk down the road and a mega breakfast is 3.90 very yummy. staff very unhappy, when you see them, never saw the very small bar open. rooms clean but carpets in corridoors in need of a clean ,looked like there was 30yrs of ground in stains, hotel too quiet ,sat on top of hills, not for faint hearted, great bar 5 mins walk called THE VICTORIA,, dave the owner looks after you along with carlosh(great guy) very friendly which is more than can be said for staff in hotel, dont talk to them and it stops you getting upset. all in all good break but too QUIET in that area, take a 20 min stroll down the hill to the old square theres loads to keep you amused.will go back to albufiera but stay nearer old/new town

Room Tip: if you want to stay here i would suggest third floor to get some benefit of a view
